I bought my ZRX1200R brand new in 2002. I have 46,000 miles on the clock. The only thing I've ever done to the engine is to check the valve clearance. I did change oil and filter every 2000 miles. I never had to adjust the carbs. That engine is built like a tank and is super dependable. It's a comfortable bike to ride and I like it's pretty much flat torque curve. I've been riding motorcycle for 56 years and my REX has offered me the most enjoyment I've ever had riding motorcycles. It's also a great looking bike. They still sell them in Japan. I am so disappointed that they do not sell them in the USA anymore. Barry
Well Mister Barry, as I understand you live in USA, and ride this Kawa for many years. I am 49 y. old and I ' ve been thinking about buying used zrx1200r , or maybe cb 1300, xjr 1300, gsx 1400. But Kawa is so beautiful , I like Z series already from 70's and 80's and as I red from your experience this Kawa is very reliable for maintenance with very little failures, also very strong.Glad to know that, the only problem is to be lucky when buying a used one.And as you said it is too bad new bike is not imported any more here in Europe, and USA. ANYWAY thanks for your observation, and wish you many happy moments with your bike😉
I bought a 2002 ZRX1200R.I was initially a bit concerned about the milage @102,000k but the bike was really tidy and ran mint and was a good price.I've owned it for 3 years now, never uses any oil starts every time even if its not been started in eons and run really smooth even at low revs in heavy traffic.Love it.
Of all the bikes i've had, this is just.......bloody brilliant! Now 2019, bought mine new in '06 and i can't imagine being without it. Bog standard still, but feels like a bespoke build....to suit me! Absolutely love it. 😈🇬🇧👍
YES this is my dream bike for all the reasons mentioned. As a biker i have 2personalities i.e. cool & relaxed and somtimes balls out knee down. This bike caters my moods!!!!
Mine is down for 2007 and is lime green with blue/white strips and gold wheels too......I always thought 2008 was the last year they were made but then its says mine is 2007.......I know the last edition they went back to the original colours but if what i say is correct and what you say is correct......that means they made that model for the last 2 years of its manufacture.......what country are you in please?....that Lime green is the most stunning of the greens i reckon but i would say that !@!!!!!
The GS1000s at the beginning of this video brought back that warm feeling I had when I was 18. In 1980 I purchased a 1000E with low bars and the S faring. I thought I was Wes Cooley at the time. Fast forward to 2001 and my 40th birthday present, a ZRX1200A1. Oh how I loved that engine and the torque it created. Sadly it met it's end in 2016, but I'm still kicking. Great video, thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I bought a Wes Cooley rep Arai in 84, I didn't even know who he was and wanted a Spencer Rep (i worked at a Honda Dealer) but they had none, my boss gave me some US bike magazines from the late 70s and early 80s with AMA superbike articles in them, and i found out who he was. Always wanted to build an AMA replica GS1000 or Katana1000, but never did. I did get a Cooley replica (kinda) in the end, but not a AMA GS thou. Its a 2002 GS1200SS painted and stickered to look like the 1980 GS1000R that Graeme Crosby and Wes Cooley won the Suzuka 8hr on, the GS1200SS is modern take on the GS1000R so it didn't take much to get the look.
This is definitely on my list for my next bike after owning a Hayabusa. I rode a friend's bike years ago and I was blown away by it. Love the old school carbeaurated bikes and the classic looks
Thanks for this review of the ZRX! I have a green 2005 model that I bought new. We keep 4-6 bikes in our shop at all times, but the ZRX1200 is the only one that’s been with us that long! We don’t ride it a lot, only has about 8500 miles on it, but, every minute on it takes me back in time. Taken several 400 - 500 mile trips on it and it never has had any problems at all. Excellent motorcycle. Ride safe my friends!
Nice video @adikxx83 @7:04 is South Georgia Motorsports Park, (SGMP) and I WON THE FIRST RACE THEY EVER HAD THERE and it was ON MY ZRX 1200R!!! I'm not kidding. I rode my 2003 ZRX TURBO from the bike shop I worked at in Jacksonville FL. 90-miles up to SGMP just to have some fun and I ended up winning the Bike class... What was really cool about it was I had to race against a Pro ET bike in the final round for that win 👍 Winner's check in pocket, I strapped the trophy on the back and rode my beloved ZRX Turbo home (130+ miles) 🤪 There all OLD, but I have videos of the bike on my channel, including what was the quickest run it made (just happened to be at SGMP) = 9.22 at 148mph... Another one shows a 329Hp Dyno Pull on a ZRX 1100 (with graphs going up to 472 HP) 😲
I love my 2003 ZRX1200R , 47,000 miles so far. But I got into some bad gas and now I need some carburetor work and new petcock valve. But she’ll be on the road again as winter ends and I get it to the shop.
@@ross5506 Little use without full exhaust and stage two jet kit as you will be left with a poor lower to mid range, and that is the best thing about the Kawa.
Absolutely man! They are still quick by modern standards! I've had dog fights with many riders and you can tell how shocked they are to see an early 80s bike take off so violently!! I love the way the turbo comes in!!! The moment it kicks in, the bike suddenly feels light then rears up and takes off like a rocket!! Can't beat a turbocharged motorbike :)
I have never been shot up the road like it i got big bikes now got a zrx 11 but every time I see a 750 turbo I just smile and a little jealous fetching good money now and so right
i am my 2nd one , both 2008 models . traded the 1st on a v strom 1000 in 2014 and got half what it was worth , fast forward to mid 2017 and got the current bike , due for a service soon , including valve adj if needed , its a keeper !!!!
@@ronsmith7262 Come on now !!! Not even close. I have a 2002 Rex and an 08 R1, and while the Rex is very quick ( I have full Akra exhaust and stage two jet kit by Dale Walker and pods ), but the R1 is miles quicker in any comparison. Even roll ons.
@@jamesmarshall3311 your talking about the hybrid car/bike I don't no anything about them but the zrx is pretty quick with its 5 speed transmission but my 2017 zx10 is just a little bit faster
Don’t know why I only found this video now - I have an ‘02 1200R that I bought used which now has 43,000 miles on the clock. Runs great and is in excellent condition. I’m 53, started riding at the age of 5 and have been at it ever since. Owned many bikes in my time, but my REX puts a stupid teenage-like grin on my dial every time! Do all my own mechanical work including carb maintenance. A buddy with a fuel injected FJR1300 rode it recently and commented on how immediate the response is from well set up carbs. When I’m too old to ride she’ll go in my living room but I’m never parting with her!
Used to ride a Suzuki GSX1100G. Retro naked with lotsa brute grunt. Unfortunately had to let her go. Now looking for a replacement. This seems like a suitable candidate..
I got a 11 my mates got the 12 they turn heads ware ever we go people who know really do know best retro bike ever may go a bit wobbley round corners if you doing 125 plus you just hang on man they go round in the end then you feel alive
I got the last ones in 2007.....gold wheels/Beautiful Lime Green(original colour with blue/white stripes)...Roo can and jetted.....shes a beauty and goes like stink.....somebody changed the rear sprocket and i am not complaining.
Who is Eddy Lawson the guy asked, if you don't know this is the last place you should be! Put in a pair of ZX11 camshaft that wakes up the power for dirt cheap
Ive wanted one of these for a long time. But in the states they have such a premium price, $5k for a nice one. A tough pill to swallow when you can get a Bandit 1200 with similar performance for less than half the price.
$5k does not sound a lot to me for a nice one. They are in demand and hence the higher price than a Bandit. Its a more iconic and better looking machine than a Bandit and has about 15 hp more than a Bandit.
@@jamesmarshall3311 Considering $5k is ZX10R money. I'd say it's a lot. Also the Bandit is at the same hp or more with just exhaust and carb tune, also you can put on a GSXR head and bump it up to 140 or more. The ZXR is for sure better looking, but the naked Bandit is still a good looking bike.
@@ajsmotolife5641 ZX10 is a apples/oranges comparison (ZRX comfortable compared to ZX10 back breaker) and you sure as heck aren't talking about a newer one when you say 5K for a 10R???
@@KCadbyRacing No, I'm talking same years they were being sold new as the ZRX. 04-07. It is apples to oranges a bit, but it's a much faster bike, with better components all around.
I znów jest moc, dodaj do niku nazwę vlog to od razu będziesz miał więcej widzów z tej strony wielkiej wody. Ludzie uwielbjają takie vlogi (zobacz Polski Motovlog Michał) On opwiada o moto i jak mu się w Us żyje. Tak poza tym to jakbyś mógł zrobić coś o kawasaki zx12r 00 do 01😁👍
I've had 3 ZRX's tried many bikes in between, replaced them, bought, sold and always ended up going back to the ZRX... btw the Rex didn't start life in 2001, the 1200 is an evolution of the ZRX1100 which came out in 1997? which in all honestly I prefer.
I have had my 2005 1200r for about 4 weeks. I have a question. Being a naked bike, with no stabilizer, it seems to get a small shake around 120ish. Would getting a stabilizer stop the slight shake for straight speed runs?
I owned a blue ZRX 1100 for 5 years with the white and black stripes.....I enjoyed every minute of it and have owned the ZRX 1200 for about the same amount of time.......that little bit of extra acceleration and the wider swing arm with wider back tyre makes it that bit more planted but still gives it the flickability......sometimes i wish it had a 6th gear/a clock and a 190 back tyre but ive fitted an old casio digital watch on the bars and i think probably the 180 tyre makes it feel lighter and smaller than it really is...once shes up and running.
Never heard of that issue, they are basically a ZZR1100 engine and pretty bulletproof, they were raced in the formula extreme naked class and won the series a couple of time, never seen one pop.
i would need to look but they have made these ZRX's for the Japan market since they stopped selling them in north america. Does anybody know if they can be imported?
Brilliant video thank u 👁️♥️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Depends on your budget of course and what you have already done to it. Quality springs up front and a fork brace really helps the front end, esp when mated to quality sporty tyres.
@@Adikxx Yeah the bike is in as new condition everywhere , it was bought in Canada , shipped to UK n then America and returned to UK by the only owner , all the paper work is present , service history is a little thin , I'm suspicious about the export and import history , that and the 10k made me walk away , but it is Concours.
10k is an overkill even for as low mileage as 5k, I have seen some good condition on Ebay for £5k-£6k for a little more mileage . I would suggest go for a high mileage for less price, after all you are buying reliable Japanese brand and not some unreliable Italian engine
@@Adikxx I sold my mint 2002 about 19 months ago here in Ireland for E4850 Euros. Bike had 52k miles, but you would never know it. Loaded with the best extras, the stuff you would really want, and what the bike needs really, and I never had a days bother with it. owned it for 12 years and brought it back from the US where i used to live. It had a full Akra Titanium exhaust with K and N pods and stage two jet kit with advancer. Tuned suspension on sports tyres and fork brace. Lovely sargeant seat and some upgraded cosmetics. Bike ran far better than stock and tested at 132 hp on the Dyno and 86 lbs of torque. Exhaust dropped 15 pounds over stock and Lithium battery and the Michelin pure tyres also knocked a surprising amount off. Best colours in my opinion 2002 green with the two tone paint on the purple/burgundy stripe. It was my second ZRX 1200.
Other way around...the back end is much improved with the stronger and wider swingarm plus a 180 tyre......the 170 was too narrow for a bike(1100) with so much tourque IMHO....I had a few wobbles on my 1100....never on my 1200.
4700 USD is currently about 3600 GBP. Don't know the US market well but in the UK that bike with that mileage and price tag would be considered a bargain.
ChhaChh BikerZ hi buddy. So is it just revs counter that doesn't work or it's both speedo and revs counter are not working? Did it work before and suddenly stopped? Or it never worked? I understand you have the backlight working on both all gauges but the hand doesn't move when you open throttle?
adikxx83 sir. Its was working perfectly and suddenly stopped. Rev meter speedo meter only lights working neutral light indicators lights working on meter
I have a 2003 ZRX 1200R, and the top speed, well, I really don't know. But I've been 170mph in 4th gear, so it's DEFINITELY higher than 149mph. Just saying.
Despite the ZRX feeling like it needs a 6th gear it actually geared for over180mph at the red line in 5th. Which of course it wont pull. Ive gone up 3 teeth on the rear which i guess would make it easier to get nearer ( not reach ) the red line in top. Jet kit, full exhaust, all emissions removed pulls hard over 100mph. Seen 150 on the clock sat upright two up more to come. And yes i know the speedo isnt totally accurate
149 mph is lots on a naked bike, actually more than one can deal with unless flat on the tank. Besides, where can you do 180 mph and not get arrested or get wiped out. ?? Back in the day I owned a ZZR1100 and it was very quick at the top end but lacked grunt lower down where the ZRX would kill it. Totally different bikes anyways.
@@jamesmarshall3311 149 mph is slow for a 1200. Should be able to drive at least 180 mph, in Germany you can go 200 mph without being busted. The ZZR have an air ram intake, thats why, the faster you drive, the more air get forced into the motor
