Kaya is Wrong About Daredevil and The Punisher 

Daredevil is actually a super interesting and brilliantly written protagonist

Basically, "The main character is too complex for me, WAHHHH MY BRAIN HURT"

I fucking LOVE Jack Murdock. He’s barely in the show relatively speaking, but the scenes he’s in are fantastic and he is SO important to Matt’s development.

“Matt Murdock is such a bad friend to all the people he knows.” Yes, it’s almost like THATS THE FUCKING POINT OF THOSE SCENES. Matt has to balance his normal life with the life of being Daredevil. He constantly gets beat up and stabbed, causing Matt to lie to his friends about it. The good thing about this show it that it uses that to its full potential, and have Nelson and Murdock split apart because of it

I cried when I saw Matt's background story so the fact that he said he had no background, proves he didn't know what he was talking about

Kaya spits out the kind of stupid that causes physical pain.

So basically Kaya doesn't register Tension as part of what makes a film/movie/show good.

Daredevil was such a good show. Foggy was such an awesome friend Vincent's portrayal of Kingpin is perfect casting, like Jk Simmons playing JJJ

Daredevil was definitely one of the best-written Marvel shows/movies around, leagues better than the Flash, especially after the latter's downwards spiral into madness. Out of season 1 & 3, there were only a few scenes I can think of that caused problems in the story or otherwise bugged me. There were quite a bit more in season 2 that really weirded me out, but unlike 90% of what we have nowadays, it doesn't blatantly cut against the rest of the story. I'd be genuinely interested to see what fans of the show say about this. Consensus seems to be that season 1 & 3 were better than season 2, but I haven't heard anything specific.

Kaya is a good example of folks that claim to be comic book fans, but thinks actually reading the books is for dorks and gets all his knowledge from the movies and tv shows.

Did... did this Kaya lad watch the same show? Or did he watch it while shaking his head from side to side, crossing his eyes, and screaming at the top of his lungs?

I really hate this idea that has taken root in the last few years that characters HAVE to be at least morally ambiguous pricks, if not outright monsters to be compelling or realistic. Matt is a complex, interesting character with flaws like deeply rooted anger, trauma, and self-destructive tendencies that is nonetheless very moral and compassionate. And the best part is that he is moral and compassionate BECAUSE he keeps his negative character traits in check, and when he fails to do so, he either tries to reign them back in or redirect them towards some kind of good.

Season 1 was amazing, season 2 was great, season 3 was a MASTERPIECE.

Daredevil is so fucking good.

The episode where Mat and Punisher debate the morality of killing on the room is one of the best in the show. It gives me big Batman Under the Red Hood vibes (especially with Punisher trying to force him to kill him to prevent him killing Grotto)

Kaya is human embodiment of "Speaking out of your ass"

I wish people were mature enough to say I just didn't like it but it was good writing, or even the opposite, I liked it but I know its garbage. That is a huge problem with criticism. Most folks cannot admit what they like might be objectively bad or they try to rationalize why they dont like something that is perfectly good. Either one is OK people. I enjoyed the first 2 seasons of Flash but I will be the first guy to let you know you may not like it because it has pretty terrible writing and the seasons are too long.

Funny thing is that even in his own comics/show, the Punisher receives endless criticism for killing freely. He even struggles with the concept himself sometimes, and wonders if he's really in the right. In the comics and in one of the movies (can't remember which, I think it's the second) he accidentally kills innocent people and becomes consumed by the guilt.

Don't you just love it when pseudo-reviewer hacks straight up invent things that never happened in the actual thing they're reviewing just so their criticism seems like it holds up? It's right up there for me with classics like "plot holes don't matter" and "it made money, so it's good".

You could honestly make a whole series about Kaya being wrong about things. His takes just suck. He’s the worst member of that group

Seems like Kaya didn’t like it, but either didn’t understand why he didn’t like it and he then tried to make up a reason why, or he wasn’t paying attention to it while watching. I think the latter is becoming more common as we multitask more while watching shows; Kaya might have just missed a bunch of the show (if we extend him the benefit of the doubt).

Most underrated film commentary channel I’ve seen. Lots of small creators like you putting in far more effort than some people get famous for on TikTok and shit. I appreciate the video’s format of making it seem like you’re actually in the midst of the podcast discussion haha

Kaya is literally just an edgelord that never grew up. Just take what you imagine the average redditor to be and that’s him to a tea except he’s too stupid to notice. If something is popular he’s going to give some stupid reason to why he hates it and then acts like he’s smarter for not being as into it as other people while also defending the stupidest and worst shows because “iT’s JuSt EnTeRtAiNmEnT gUyS!!”. I like the other guys but maybe if they actually had spines they could stand up against his shitty takes and help him realize how much of a narc he is.

Ya know..., I really like Matt Murdock and the daredevil characters, they have a extremely detailed backstory, he grows up with pain and anguish of already having to hear the screams of the pain and mercy and for help, but he didn't do anything, he grows up like this, in this hell of agony and suffering, the guilt of not stopping horrible crimes... He finally breaks and becomes daredevil, a devil to hear and do something about the screams of hell.

Honestly Daredevil is hands down one of the best superhero shows ever made, in my opinion. It wasn't just someone doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do, it was someone acting on what HE believed was the right thing to do, and the whole show constantly talks about whether trying to do the right thing but hurting others to do it is right or wrong, and it's so grey that it comes down to everyone's opinion. Matt Murdock isn't a perfect character because writing in the ambiguously grey doesn't work if he is. Contrast that to something like Superman. He'll always do the right thing, make the right choice, and save everyone in the process while only sacrificing himself (though he never actually sacrifices himself). Basically he throws himself at whatever threat there is, and will take all the blows in order to do what is undeniably right. However, whether Daredevil is right or wrong and the morality of his actions comes entirely down to individual opinion. Should he have defended The Punisher in court? That's a more loaded question than people think it is. Sure, everyone needs some kind of legal defense, but The Punisher's case really should've been open and shut. The dude was very clearly guilty of a plethora of homicides, and whether those people were bad or not it asks the question of when it's okay to take a life, if it ever is at all? When Punisher guns down an entire bar full of gang members, was he justified? Were all of them really so evil they deserved to lose their life? Is he doing the world a favor, or is he a menace? Nothing is cut and dry and obvious. He's not a bad guy, but he's not a good guy either. Where I'm going with that previous assessment is that Daredevil is the same way. He's a douchebag, sure. He treats his friends like shit, he fucks people over, he beats the ever-living fuck out of criminals, and he skirts around the law to do so. However his intentions are good. He fucks over Karen and Foggy trying to keep them safe, and make them not involved in what he knows is dangerous, and what he knows he's bringing on himself. He beats the fuck out of criminals because he knows for a fact that the legal system doesn't always work, and wants to bring what he views as justice to people who abuse the system to get around being punished for their crimes. It's part of why the entire Elektra arc works, despite the Hand. Elektra is there to test his morals. To see if he'll tip over from the light side of grey to the darker one. To see if she can corrupt him, and change his views. I could go on forever, but I think that's enough for now lol.

I really hope Kaya didn't ruin Daredevil for Charlie because I think he would love Daredevil if he watched it

I'm not sure he watched the same show, I didn't even need to see your counter... arguments? well their more just facts. Yes, Matt does treat Foggy and Karen badly and not just to be a hero but because he is CLEARLY addicted to Elektra. People might say "that his behavior is not consistent" since he throughout the season will berate her for how she is acting then talk about building a life together, then say their no good for each other the next morning after she kills the ninja (some honesty) and then he gets back into trying to save her from regretting killing stick and then wanting to run away with her before she dies. But guess what, certain people do have people in their life that make them stupid and love crazy. That is not inconsistent writing it's a purposeful character flaw. He doesn't have the greatest track record with successful relationships with women. And Elektra is Matt's version of heroin because he can actually be with her fully without the need to hide anything and she can also do the work that gives his life meaning beside him as a partner. Which is ironic because that is actually what Fisk wants with Vanessa once he realized that she didn't want him to hide anything and wouldn't judge him for it. Even after Foggy knows they treat it as if it's a substance abuse problem which makes Matt reluctant to share the reality he is living in. Now if you don't like how Matt treats his friends, very understandable, it takes a lot for someone to do a thing that would make me push them out. But I actually feel Foggy would be justified in blowing up at him and wanting to shut down their partnership. Wait a minute...!

What I hate about punisher fans are that they are little too invested on a comic book character to a point that they see the ethics of the character as a genuine philosophy than an entertainment, and gets personally offended when the pusnisher's ethics are even so slightly questioned.

Yes. Matt tends to be a douche. That’s the show characterizing him and it’s something that is addressed and a regularly talked about and complained about by other characters. It almost always has consequences for everyone and massively affects the plot. That’s a POSITIVE for the show

Madvocate needs to review Netflix's Daredevil

The only thing worse than being wrong is being smug while you're wrong. If they genuinely misinterpreted the show to this degree, then their criticism doesn't have much creditability. Or if they understood the show, but chose not to in order to generate drama clicks, then their criticism doesn't have much credibility

He didn't watch the series he saw some a bunch of youtube clips and talked to his circle of internet friends about it.

Season 3 was so unbelieavably good that I had to annoy my friends and family by talking about it on end. And it's all down to their portrayal of Matt Murdock and his struggle to be the hero he needs to be. Even his christianity plays a huge role in the show and is treated well in general. Daredevil could not be more interesting, especially compared to today's MCU and it's shows. Having a well acted and portrayed Fisk is just the icing on top of it all.

Daredevil is goated it should be talked about the same way we talk about the raimi trilogy or TDK trilogy.

It physically pained me to hear kaya say that the punisher screwed his case because daredevil taunted him. Like seriously did he think that just magically somebody linked to the murder of his family was in the same prison as him by chance? And did he skip over literally every conversation between fisk and castle? Did he think frank wanted to go to prison for no reason?

There is a very common behaviour I have noticed in others when it comes to media, many say people disapprove of creative & thoughtful movies & books because we all have different tastes, but I think there is more to it then that. Irrational Rating of Media is a behaviour I think stems from the desire for humans to be different & have diverse opinions & perspectives despite whether or not something is objectively true. Sometimes I wish for a world where everyone can just appreciate a work of art & say it's not for them, but it always becomes this complex where they have to blame the art & the artist to make themselves feel special. But on the other hand this behaviour is what allows us to have a broad range of unusual personalities & quirks, only saying it would be nicer if people didn't have to be so negative ALL THE TIME

Has that guy ever heard of the Tragic Hero? Daredevil is MEANT to be flawed. He’s MEANT to be a terrible friend. The entire show is demonstrating how difficult it is for a hero to balance their two lives, and Matt’s character flaws are the consequences of that.

Daredevil and The Punisher are two sides of the same coin. But damn the sides shine fabulously as characters. Their conversation in Daredevil season 2 is one of the most smart and realistic talks. Doesnt matter who you agree with they both put forth their arguments like real people, they both talk like real men arguing about flaws in each others ideology. I dont know why but if feels so real.

love your content. this Is my favorite show for multiple reasons and Matt Murdock is definitely at the top of that list. I know this videos a little older now but it still brings me joy to see people giving this show the attention it deserves. THIS is the stuff I want from Marvel, stuff that makes you think.

Why is Kaya incapable of going in depth? He only sees the surface and can't see the important details??? Like yes Matt is a jerk to his friends but that the point! And there's reasons for it. Howd he miss the reasons? He's depressed and thinks he has to push them away so they don't get hurt. What is it that stick said is S1? "Do you have friends?... let them go, break their hearts if you have to". It's literally what he was taught to do. And when he sees that holding onto them only puts them in harms way he decides to follow that advice. He's literally such a complex and in depth character it's really a shame that people lack the ability to see that.

I am not that knowledged in Catholicism. But if pre marital sex is a sin according to it, then Matt is flawed in that regard. Just a thought that occured to me when I was watching the show and reading the comics 🤔

I'm watching this after just rewatching the series and it is stunning how ignorant this dude is of the show. In Daredevil, Frank is meant to be a foil to Matt in that Matt's values are put to the test when he represents him out of a belief that Frank deserves the best representation he can get despite what he is done, and Matt is forced to stick by him even when representing him is causing problems in other aspects of his life. Likewise the Punisher exists as a foil to Daredevil as he offers a very different philosophy on the issue of vigilantism not held by our protagonist, believing himself to be judge jury and executioner. The characters all have their own opinions about the guy, some sympathetic and some hostile, but the narrative never treats Frank as though he is in the wrong or in the right, and in the end Frank and Matt make their peace with each other without either one of them compromising their values. In season three we not only get more of Matt's already well backstory both through himself and other characters, but we finally see the resolution of the conflict that is his double life, which has been the driving source of the tension in the series. We also see his values change as his faith in the legal system disintegrates because of the rampant corruption he observes.

That's why I hated the Karen Page character. She immediately fell in love with Punisher murdering everyone and made Murdock feel like shit for being ineffective, and then later on when she finds out he's Daredevil she shits on him more for saving people's lives, meanwhile still completely fawning over Punisher's murderous ways. Complete hypocrisy.
