It's because people think nowadays anything that's criticism towards a movie/show they like = hating on the movie/show for no reason but just to hate it and be a dick. I don't think there is a single video that talks positively about TLJ that isn't swamped with people ruthlessly mocking people for liking it. On the other hand, videos that call it terrible usually only have a few people defending the movie who are buried in comments calling them stupid. I have to show this video to my friends and siblings. It is time to reprogram the way they looks at movies and shows. I am so tired of people saying things like: "It's a movie, so it doesn't need to make sense."
@sebastianriviere7047
@sebastianriviere7047 Год назад
what this guy is saying is factually wrong. How can you factually prove a movie is bad because it doesn't make sense in the same way you could prove the world is round? Sure you can say one movie makes more sense than the other but there's no evidence to suggest that one person is wrong to say a movie is good even if it doesn't make sense. The whole idea of art being objective is objectively wrong cause it's not based on fact like 1+1=2 or Africa being a continent
@AmitCinematicUniverse
@AmitCinematicUniverse Год назад
@Sebastian Riviere There are standards that you must follow if you want to tell a good story. While there are some vague or grey areas here and there in writing, one can't just deny that there are standards to follow, and those who wish to defend movies must know how to do it.
@sebastianriviere7047
@sebastianriviere7047 Год назад
@@AmitCinematicUniverse i think there are standards one can have for a film and we can even agree to certain standards for the sake of argument. You can't however say that there are a specific set of standards that are FACTUALLY necessary to make a good movie. People have different standards and one person's standards aren't better than another person. I can prove to you with science and data that there are a set of standards you have to follow to build muscle on your frame unlike a movie where you can only give me your opinion as to why your standards are necessary which isn't based on facts. The complete and utter lack of concrete basis is the reason that art is inherently subjective.

@sebastianriviere7047
@sebastianriviere7047 Год назад
@@AmitCinematicUniverse yes, i agree that these standards make for a good movie but that's only in my opinion. If someone came along and said that they didn't hold movies to this standard, they would be completely valid in doing so and what ever standards they held would be just as valid as mine, however nonsensical they may be. If someone said their version of a good movie had to be funny, exciting and awe inspiring but the plot or characters don't really have to be consistent or make any sense, they wouldn't be wrong for having those standards because that's just their opinion, just as we're not right for having our standards because it's just an opinion. The bluecheckmark guy could've used the ambush fight before they took baby yoda. The fact that about 5/6 stormtroopers were shooting at Ming-Na Wen (who's on an open place) and none of them even gets close to hitting her, but then Mando comes to save her, he goes to shield Ming-Na Wen and all of the sudden the stormtroopers start to hit him. So when someone that doesn't have an armor that can deflect blaster shots is the target, they always miss, but when someone that can deflect them appears and stands right in front of the other target, then they turn into the best sharpshooters in the galaxy.

1:30 as a MV fan, Godzilla vs Kong had basically everything on the list. And their excuse is you're not supposed to think about it it's just a fun movie. Like the fuck? And dare I speak my opinion I'm suddenly a salty Kong fan. The fandom is weird as fuck. And same applies to the Flash, I loved that show but I agree with everything you said. I just happened to be more tolerable of shit writing, as long as the overall idea peaks my interest I can stand it. But it did piss me off with the speed inconsistencies.

well... yeah, no one has to have the same things they look for in movies as anyone else, esp. given how many kinds there are. i agree that theyres a ton of dumb and contrived bs in Godzilla vs Kong. i also know in my gut that the makers of the movie did not care in the slightest, because the purpose of the movie is very obviously not about delivering a good story - its about two lovable monsters punching each other in the face. now, if you value story in monster movies more than the makers of the movie, thats fine. youre absolutely entitled to that preference, but that doesnt obligate said movie makers to appease your preference in the slightest, not even if many more ppl than just you share it. so when GvK failed to live up to your story expectations, you have every right to not enjoy the movie, and you have every right to say you didnt enjoy it on social media without getting lambasted into oblivion, but you have no right to be mad at the creators for not delivering what you wanted from the film. they mightve just enjoyed making a stupid, inconsistent fight movie more than you wanted to see it. (and yes, im aware that ive provided no evidence that GvK's creators only cared about the fights. in fact, im willing to bet many people that worked on it thought they were writing and scripting out a great film with no flaws. im simply using logic to deduce that a multimillion dollar product, whose base pull is *probably* the fact that two monsters punch each other, was not made with great care taken to ensure its story was consistent. also, as a piece of personal advice, ive learned that laughing at dumb stuff when it happens instead of raging like madvocate likes to (ik a portion of it os just for show) is way healthier. after the last jedi, i instead laughed at dumb stuff in rise of skywalker instead of groaning, and had a blast. it was like a live MST3K showing, highly recommend for general media-consuming use)

4:51 recently I've stumbled upon a person defending the Peter Pan villain from the Rescue Rangers film saying that even if it's distasteful towards Bobby Driscoll, Cats Don't Dance also had a child actor villain, meaning that generally it's not the first movie that makes villains out of children that were mistreated by studios. ... And yeah, I don't really care about Cats Don't Dance? It's still scummy? What if I made a movie with the KKK being unironically heroes and say "Well, Birth of a Nation did it too"? I fucking hate whatboutisms SO FUCKING MUCH. 99% of the time it's just people defending a bad thing by bringing up another bad thing from a past film. The concept of growing up and simply... get this... avoiding to do something YOU KNOW IS WRONG is fucking alien to these consoomers.

0:37 Now of course bottom right needs no explanation at all because it's self-explanatory why it's a masterpiece. 1:39 I would like to say that retcons aren't inherently bad because things like Vader being Luke's Vader in ESB was a recon because originally Obi-Wan was telling the truth about what happened to Anakin, so retcons do get a bad rap for a good reason because more often than not they're bad, but that doesn't mean that they're not inherently bad. 2:21 There are Transformers movies that are in the billion-dollar club, while Citizen Kane and It's A Wonderful Life bombed, does that mean that those Transformers movies are better than Citizen Kane and It's A Wonderful Life.

the pitfall here is that being objectively right about a movie having objective flaws doesnt automatically hold more weight than an opinion. i genuinely dont care that a stormtrooper hit his head on the doorway in Star Wars, even though its logically inconsistent and sloppy. the movie makes up for it in other ways to me that make it incredibly fun and engaging, and any critic that tried to hold that objective flaw over my head is wasting their time. and as dumb as i know the prequels objectively are, some random schmuck has every right to value something as trivial as how the cgi models were simulated more than the objectively bad sloppy writing, enjoy the movie for that reason, and not automatically be a shill or a moron.

Some people are really weak and need to hear their opinion echoed back to feel confident in what they're consuming. When they flip their shit so much at criticism, I wonder if they even really ACTUALLY LIKE the thing they're shrilling for, that maybe deep down they DO feel disappointed but for some reason they're in denial and prefer making asses of themselves to not admit it. Almost like being in a toxic relationship with bad media. lol Just stop defending it if you know it sucks and doesn't even entertain you that much. I like watching Flubber, The Swan Princess, Space Truckers, Batman & Robin and a few others regardless of their poor writing or how they got critically received.

It's sad that eceryone see themselves as critics these days... I'm very pleased to find this video since it actually tries to break down subjetivity obscures a lot of so called critics' opinion. Let's give me a very simple context about subjectivity and objectivity. I'm a fan of Fallout games, a very hard one on that as well, so I played FO4 for more than 400 hours; I enjoyed it myself yet when someone asks I calmly say ''FO4 has too many flaws, especially when you compare it to previous IPs. It's a good shooter, even though I liked the graphics; they are objectively look old, main story and plot is not well written and you can see it on various dialogues and quests, character interactions are bad, the worldbuilding is not even close to original FO titles, it is not an RPG which can be backed up the things I just said and the list goes on.''. It's sad since die hard fans try to 'protect' something bad. It only makes matters worse since corporations know that there is a huge audience who will buy everything they throw at them. You can see this with FO76; if everyone was trying to be objective, despite how much they 'enjoyed' FO4, Bethesda couldn't even reveal FO76. Instead people tried to protect FO4 over everything and we got 76 afterwards; an unfinished product which has flaws in the core that can't be polished. I hope people can actually try to be objective, especially on the things they love, since being subjective only brings more shitty media productions later on.

Saying "whataboutism" is pretty dangerous considering comparing 2 similar situations, especially via pointing out inconsistency or hypocrisy in behavior is important to be able to do especially from a critical or counter-critical perspective. Ultimately saying "whataboutism fallacy" is incorrect and you should just simply respond with "what about it" and then break it down from their if the individual is inappropriately making the comparison
