First day kayak fishing of our summer holidays in beautiful Ucluelet British Columbia, Canada. Nana was kind enough to watch the kids for the day so we headed offshore in the hopes of landing something for dinner. Beautiful weather and calm water made for some excellent fishing conditions, a perfect warm up day to kick off our 20 day vacation, on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island.

@@BootTrackStories yes a rod in the 6' range, heavy or extra heavy would be ideal for that lure.

I know you mentioned it in a previous video but which rod are you using? Also how do you like the baitcast type reel? seems like a perfect setup for this kind of fishing,

My rods are shimano trevala 7' medium light and a fenwick hmg inshore 7' heavy. Both have Piscifun Alijoz reels, i use the trevala mostly for salmon and the fenwick for lings and bottom fishing, both are equally as good in my opinion if i had to pick a favorite though it would be the trevala. Love the baitcasting reels, the alijoz is a 300 size so a bit bigger than a normal bass style baitcaster, keeps the whole setup super light especially for how often im using one hand on the rod to land fish. Crystal uses a trevala as well but with an okuma coldwater low profile which is also a phenomenal reel.

For myself I use: 7' medium light Shimano Trevala for salmon with a Piscifun Alijoz reel. For Lingcod and Rockfish I use a 7' Heavy Fenwick Hmg Inshore also with a Piscifun Alijoz reel. Crystal uses: 7' medium light Shimano Trevala with an Okuma Coldwater low profile reel for salmon, and a Penn Wrath spinning combo 7' Heavy for Lingcod and Rockfish, Crystals doing a rod and reel setup video as we speak, will be up soon, thanks for watching!

@@kckayakfishing That’s fantastic information man! I really like your setup, I typically use a single action reel but might have to switch to something a little smaller/lighter

@@tristinvandamme8299 thanks! I really enjoy the baitcaster style reels, super light while trying to land a fish and they pick up line really quickly as well, i would highly recommend either the alijoz or the coldwater both are fantastic reels.

@@tristinvandamme8299 congrats on the outback! If you haven't already make sure you join the Vancouver Island Kayak Anglers facebook page, lots of knowledgeable people on there, alot of people post when they're going out fishing looking for meet ups, great little community of anglers.
