In this video I bring you along as I "oil spray" a customers 2015 Chevy Silverado with the classic Fluid Film. This is the stuff I use on the daily here in the rust belt of NY. There are a lot of options out there to oil spray your vehicle with. You just need to pick one and DO IT! Happy spraying! ‪@fluidfilmusa‬

My experience is that the fluid film branded gun is ok for home use but won't hold up if you go through 55 gallon drums. That pro plus gun looks pretty sweet, though I have no experience with it. Also, don't fool yourself thinking you are going to do a whole car with cans. Besides the cost, I've found that the product in the aerosol cans is different. It seems to be thinner and not work as well. Just my experiences as a home mechanic who has fluid filmed my own and friends cars.

I saw a video on RU-vid where I guy tested several types of undercoatings including fluid film. From best to worst, 1) PB Blaster Surface Shield, tied for last NH Black and Crown, both junk. Fluid film was in the middle somewhere. I made up my own for a while, summer grade bar n chain oil, a toilet ring, (beeswax) and 5 cakes of paraffin wax. then heated Mine did as well as fluid film. Do not use any kind of hydraulic fluid. It absorbs moisture. The waxy stuff on the frame is probably lanolin put on at the factory.

As a youth I worked at the Walmart in town and we did undercoating. I had a guy with a truck maybe 10 years old that was in real nice shape (live in the salt belt), he asked me to do a good job so I asked him if he cared if it drips a lot. He said no. Well as a bored teenager on a quiet day, I went nuts on that thing. Think I used a good 6 or 7 gallons on it. There were no unpainted surfaces ANYWHERE that I missed. And I put it on so thick it probably dripped for a month! 😂😂

Comes in two variations, thin fluid for sills, frames, door bottoms. Its highly penetrable and is applied with a gun like the one you use. The other version is thick and wax like and is for all underside use. Its applied with a high pressure air gun. Doesen't drip after application. I love this stuff and it keeps the metal worms away. I agree. Leasing or trading every few years is the only way to have a car in the northeast. I buy a car about 1 year old, and trade it before it turns to powder. Any rustproofing is only as good as the person applying it.

I sure wish we had this whole setup back in the late 1950's, all of the 1960's and 1970's. Saw some really great cars die a corroded death when they still ran good in Massachusetts. When we moved to Southern California in 1976, that problem ended here. The bodies and frames of my 06 Nissan Frontier and my wife's 06 Kia Sorento are still solid although the Kia is a money pit by itself! Mr. O, PLEASE buy a mask that is paint and oil spray rated and wear eye protection. Thank you for showing this video with the great tool for applying the fluid film.

Nice thorough job!! Fluid Film "is the best" and on my 2019 f150 it looks like new underneath. I did 2 full sprays (2 years apart) and 3 touch ups (every fall) since new! I live in Northern Ontario, Canada! (salt country!!) Any protection, done regularly, is essential to protect against corrosion!

Glad you showed us the process Eric. I don’t live in the North but we do get some snow and they do use some salt on the roads. I had a 2006 Silverado that the rocker panels and cab corners rotted out on after about 10 yrs but everything else was pretty good. So far my 2014 hasn’t shown any signs of rust (KNOCK ON WOOD).

I don't remember if it was the last time you talked about this, or somewhere else online, but.. I remember people saying they don't bother doing this, instead they just do weekly car washes with underbody spray jets. I understand the appeal, because that makes your car look nice too. That is not enough though, that is not a replacement for this. You have to protect the metal itself. That salt is just eating away at your car/truck in between washes if you don't protect the metal.

Back in the day, we sprayed used motor oil all over the bottom of our trucks in the western Oblast of the PRM, just to your east. The Berkshires become salt mounds in the winter just like the PRNY. Worked pretty well and was an easy way to get rid of our used oil that we changed every 2000 miles back then.

I'm in south eastern Ontario, and Krown charges $149 Cdn plus 13% tax for a minivan. But every year, they partner with CAA to offer a scratch & win promo in the June time frame with a minimum discount of $25. So it costs me $129 plus tax. You could win the whole cost of the treatment, but I've never been that lucky 😞
