Bushcraft Tools need to be sharp if they are to carry out the tasks we want them to efficiently (and safely). While we usually have our main sharpening gear at home - we should carry some means of keeping our "sharps sharp" in the field. In this video I look at just such a kit from Polymath Products.

Surely you should use the 600 stone first and the 1000 tin after ?? I carry the lansky puck for my axe, it is kinda heavy but it does a good enough job. It is however, no good for my knife because of its beveled edge profile. I have a little diamond stone, but it's not very aggressive, it's a fall fallkniven dc4. Gotta say that I'm not a huge fan of that tin, based on what you get in it and mostly the noise while using it ! Thank you for doing another very useful review, stay safe 👍

Hi, i did a video at my bushcraft Shelter camp doing a few basics. I put a clip of sharpening a axe for content in the final edit. As you can expect it was picked up on as a poor effort and it was to be honest but it was more about the context of sharpening in field conditions. The main point to take away from your video is you may be required to put a edge back on your blades in the field if being used heavily. I use a old block stone 2 grites and do a workable job at home. I think most people understood your the message . Take care, stay safe, and i hope to catch you out on the trail. Andy.

Nice, but with a little extra time, I can sharpen a blade just as well with a DC4 that is a fraction of the size and weight of this kit. Less is more; more is less.

DL_GB because I don't own a DC3 and am happy to make do with what I've got.

No, the stone is 600 and the diamond plate is 10000 ! Stone first diamond second, your giving out backwards information.

Nice one Neil, 600 stone first then the 1000 diamond. Blade oil for the stone and diamond. Should have used the balm with the cloth for the protection 😆😁🤣👍👍👍👍

Nice kit. My field blade care kit is the DC4 sharpening sotne and a little drop bottle with olive oil (for multi purpose and safe to eat)

Like other people commented, you used the diamond before the coarser stone. Big fail, take 100 lines “I must not mess up my sharpening routine”!🤔😬😁🤣

Having watched the whole video and seen you totally messing up by using the grits the wrong way round, plus you used the oil on the blade when you’re meant to use the balm, this after you’ve just read the instructions. Got to say, you look like you’re trying to convince yourself that they’re doing a good job, failing miserably. You do some great videos, but please don’t fall into that deep, dark pit of product placement whoring you were teetering on the edge of a few years ago, is it really worth it? Keep your integrity Neil, please! For £13.99 or whatever it costs, just spend a bit more on the wonderful, well made Fallkniven CC4 Ceramic Whetstone, or if you need something a tad more aggressive, the Fallkniven DC4, or even take both, they take up far less room than that pile of cheap tat plus the outer surface of the CC4’s leather slip can be used for stropping. I got the DC4 first, then saw that the CC4 went even finer, so got one.

Haven't watched this kind of content for a verry long time, but somehow it sort of peaked my interest. Howerver, as others have pointed out, the execution wasn't really great. Basically none of the things used correctly just plugging things that you want me to buy and I'm sorry to say it but you lost yourself a subscriber.

Not at all impressed by that "kit" and you used it all wrong. Your preambles are getting longer and longer too - 6 minutes here. And sort out the focusing for heaven's sake.

Let me guess - you don't tune in to watch me make tea! Focus is a fair one though, but in my defence I'm not a professional, I do this on my own , in my little bit of free time I have. I don't do it for the money either, I do it for the benefit of others. If you have made a video that could show me how to do it "properly " I would gladly watch it. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

@@greencraft4783Personally, I’d be upset if you didn’t do your “tea routine”, I remember that comment ages ago “I didn’t come here to watch you make a cup of tea”!🤣 It’s become like a comfortable companion now!😁(the tea making, not the comment🤓). Don’t even mind the out of focus, I hadn’t really noticed until I read someone else’s comment (and I’m an amateur photographer [stills, not video]). Wasn’t too impressed with your performance with the kit, but we all have our off days. Personally, I would pay a bit more and get the Fallkniven CC4 or the DC4, the CC4 has a stropping surface on the leather slip plus it is a bit finer grit, so you can get a really good edge with it.
