Greg recalls an inspirational fishing story from his time in Patagonia on History's Alone Show.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

Just listen to this video on the flat screen and not sign up so I check on my phone. I like these fireside chats although I’m 70, I still enjoy listening to t your experiences. I used to go backpacking on Yolo wilderness for a week with some food for the first few days. Then we would fish and hunt. Hiking from spring to spring. A couple months back I was swamped with spring bills. Taxes, insurance, license tags, dog food bill. I asked the Great Spirit to help me find peace with the situation I was facing. A couple days later a guy offered me a job. I have been working off and on with him ever since then. It has been getting those bills paid, and I have been learning things. I am grateful, and I need to remain grateful. My mom always said "God helps those who help themselves". I asked for peace and got so much more. If you believe, you just believe. There is no convincing anyone else what that experience is like, but when I was offered a solution I jumped on in and ran with it. Thanks for sharing.

I prayed on occasion. And I'm not a religious person. I was raised protestant Christian. But I can say whenever I have prayed. I've either gotten a direct obvious awnser. Or had things turn as you did. It's very curious.

I’m just afraid of myself. I have no fear of the wilderness, shelter, fire or water but if the food dries up. Especially not eating for several days. Frustration and then anger will set in and I’ll become dangerous.

Greg can you do a video on good vs crap fire steels? i have one here that works ok but it gets ripples in it and some fire steels do not. the ripples are so bad you cant use the firesteel. if anyone can help or has information feel free to share thanks.

Great story! I'm homeless and live about half my time in the woods. During Covid, pickings were super slim in town and no work. Therefore, I was spending a ton of time in the woods. I went 5 days straight once and was really down, no fish and nothing in my traps. Sitting at the fire at the end of the day, I was half sobing half praying and a porcupine walked into camp. That night I wept! 2 days after that I got a call to help pack up a house. Not only did I get $200 they gave me all the groceries. It took 2 trips to get it to my camp.

TRUE STORY; My wife and I went fishing one time several years ago and before we started, we asked the Lord for 5 fish. All day we fished and only got one bite on the hook. As the sun was setting, dejected I told my wife, “Well, I guess we got skunked”. Moments later, I hear someone behind us walking down the wooded dock towards us. This stranger from nowhere asks us, “Hey, would you like some fish?” I looked at her, I looked at the fish . . . and wouldn’t you know it . . . She had 5 nice sized Northern Pike on a stringer! We were stunned! After greatfully accepting the fish, I ask the Lord why He answered our prayer that way . . . clear as a bell I heard in my heart, “You didn’t ask to catch the fish!”. Absolutely true story! From then on we pray very specifically!

I despise religion and churches I'm more spiritual closer to what natives believe in. My half sister is Cherokee but she my mother brother and practically entire family is Christian my dad never believed and only wore a st. Christopher metal.

@lancesudberry209 I'm not a Christian, or a jew neither. Religions are idolatry. It's about relationship, not religion. The Cherokees are descendants of some of the 12 tribes in my opinion. Way closer to the original design. I hope our Father bless your ways 👊🏽 Cheers and shalom!

Also when I was 18 an struggling with 4 years of really bad depression going through alot too much to explain on RU-vid but I prayed a certain prayer first one really an he took my depression away 4 years of depression in seconds an that's how I came to believe in christ well the start felt pure love an bliss from head to toe all over pure joy

Couple of years back, I remember being broke as hell after paying bills/ rent and all that, I had 2 dollars to my name and I used to walk to work and back. Almost 2 hours for the walk, I remember walking home during a winter night thinking wow if I could get a cup of coffee and a pack of smokes, all I could ask for. Just as I was passing a 7-11 and looking disappointed I happened to stumble upon 5 dollars on the ground with the 2 dollars I had that was enough for a cup of coffee and a pack of smokes. The odds of finding a loose 5 dollar is very unlikely I understand this isn’t life or death or a crazy adventure but for me, I felt as it was god looking down on me saying “i hear you”

I have had similar things happen. And I swear this to be true.... the one that stands out, (and this is a long story cut short) is the day my sister died in hospital after overdosing.... completely unbeknownst to me. At the exact moment that her heart stopped, my partner and I, at home 20 miles away, felt an absolutely overwhelming need to pray for her.... which we did. I remember looking at my watch when we had finished, noting the time for some reason and thinking I should call her to see how she is..... I subsequently found out that she literally awoke at the same time, to the amazement of the medical team who were about to pull the sheet over her head. I occasionally recount this story, and it still gives me goosebumps. I don't know why God chose to save her, or why He would bother even with me. But He did, and the glory is His.

Love listening to your stories. My dad would take me bobber fishing as a child. I did enjoy it and the thing I enjoyed most was dropping that lure anywhere I wanted it to go. The accuracy and timing. Good way to pass the time of day with my dad. ❤

Greg I used to be a model very pretty, then one day I fell in the shower and broke my back I can barely walk and since am now over 300 lbs I hate my life and what I've become i want to die , but i saw this video and it gave me a sense of hope maybe i can get through this miserable life , thank you xoxox

One time when I was living on my own for the first time at 19 I was walking looking for a job an on my way back to my house I could see it was about to rain an I prayed to please get me out of the rain or hold it off till I get home seconds after I prayed it started pouring an as it did a little red car pulled up beside me in seconds of the prayer an a very nice older lady gave me a ride home

I really appreciate you sharing this experience. It is not often enough that a person that has a time of answered prayer that as time passes it doesn't lose some of it significance. "Was that really real?" Hang on to those times because they are real and true.
