As someone who lives in Birmingham, can the talk of a nuclear apocalypse heading our fair city end? We don't want the gentrification!

On Broken Arrows: the worst one is Goldsboro. A bomber exploded and its payload of two 20 megaton (hiroshima was 15 KILOtonnes, so over 1000 times Hiroshima) bombs fell in North Carolina. One had its safety parachute deploy successfully. The other? Not so much. It almost armed itself. 5/6 safety switches triggered; only ONE safety switch out of SIX prevented hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of deaths and incalculable environmental damage. Another fun example was Russian captain Vasily Aleksandrovich Arkhipov onboard a nuclear submarine during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was one of three officers on board who had to approve a launch, and the only one who refused. If he has consented it would have been nuclear war. We have had nuclear weapons for less than 100 years and SO MANY close calls - and that's just the ones we know about. There's probably loads of Russian close calls not reported. We absolutely cannot be trusted and every nuclear weapon should be destroyed and sanctions imposed against any country that pursues them.

Broken Arrows: indeed, nuclear bombs fell out of planes all the time. The thing is, bombers are designed to sometimes drop the bombs, passenger airplanes don't have belly that opens underneath the passengers :D But to be more precise: the bombers aside of bomb bay doors, have some sort of a release mechanism that releases the bomb through the open bay doors. Now, as one may suspect, a nuclear bomb is a heavy piece of equipment, especially in the 50s. Not many bombers could even take off with one in them, let alone had big enough bay doors or strong enough mounting points inside. So work was done, stuff was built, and well... it sometimes failed. It's all detailed somewhere, but just from memory I'm guessing that if the mounting points that keep the bomb above bay door failed, just the bomb falling I dunno, 30-90cm, was enough force to just blew open the bay doors, and the bomb kept falling xD

I think Kemi and the conservative party don't really understand the Equalities Act, and that Sex is defined as sex at birth, with the GRC reassigning sex at birth after gender reassignment surgery. Also, that the Equalities Act has provision for single-sex (as defined at birth) spaces, where it is necessary and justified to do so. The act gives examples of it too.

I think Ava's comments on whether Faiza should stand again are quite antithetical to democracy if I'm honest. If you follow her logic to its conclusion then no candidate should ever stand as an independent unless they were previously an MP of another party beforehand. A logic which im sure has helped to create and maintain the duopoly we see in parliament ATM.

In terms of nuke targets, they'd go for london, manchester, cardiff, edinburgh and all the nuclear power plants dotted around the coast line. If they for whatever reason dont choose the cities, they will 100% target the power plants. The russians have been harassing our coast guard at said locations trying to scout them out for decades now and they seem in particular, more interested in heysham power plant than most others. regardless of where they hit, the UK is fundamentally fucked and will suffer hard due to how small we are and how big a radius their nuke will most likely have just thought i'd add this here while they were talking about it as they dont seem to know how basic targeting in warfare works
