I bought a cp33 around a year ago. It's fed everything I've shot through it. The only time I've had problems is when I didn't pay attention and load the magazine correctly. Great and fun pistol.
I have a CP33. Love it. I have added a Reflex Sight, a FS1913 Brace and a Fore Grip. Shooting the paper out of the Bullseye. Also picked up an American Speed Loader. An absolute must!
The CP33 is extremely accurate. We've been having fun shooting it off the bench with a cheap 4X scope I had so I bought a 2.5-8X scope for it with quick release rings. That will allow me to shoot it as a plinker or as a bench rest long distance pistol. So far it's been amazingly reliable. The only malfunction was a single round of Federal Auto Match where they left the primer out of the cartridge. It had a strong primer strike so the pistol did its job. When I saw that Taurus announced a 16 shot 22 pistol at the 2019 SHOT Show I thought that was particularly bad timing given that Kel-Tec was announcing their 33 round 22 pistol. Talk about stealing someone's thunder. :-)
I put over 500 rounds thru my new TX-22 yesterday. Wow!!! That trigger reset is awesome!!!! I had ZERO PROBLEMS, of any kind. Not even a light strike, running Federal 550 bulk ammo. I'm highly impressed with this gun. I LOVE IT!!!!!
Had a keltec pmr 30 for 2 years, loved shooting it but never got it be reliable. Always shot cci 40 grain or hornady 45 grain. Had 4 mags, loàded by the book. Cleaned after ever shoot, lubed, grafite on mags but always had issues. No one wanted that gun to be dependable more than me but just couldn't trust it. Traded it for a tx22, have over 1200 rounds, all kinds, not one hiccup. Would trust my life on it, has become my favorite gun
Thanks calangle, glad yours is running well, lm jealous. Loved the PMR grip, trigger and especially the sights. Due to extreme arthritis in my wrist I've given up on anything but 22lr and 22mag. Those are the only ones I can practice with. Rather hit with a 22 than miss with a 9mm. Good shooting
@@stevebutler4250 yeah, I got it because my wife was having trouble hitting consistently with the 9mm, and I'd prefer her hit than miss. We did some drills a while back and she made me proud with the PMR 30.
Great review. Makes me wonder how much the lack of feed ramp has to do with the chambering issues. Thanks for being so detailed on the review, it looks like I'll be a TX22 owner soon.
I have learned to not trust airsoft guns with aluminum slides converted into firearms (TX22). Picked up my CP33 last Wednesday, took it to the range on Saturday. 330 rounds of cheap Rem Thunderbolt - ZERO issues. Dead-accurate, light recoil and almost no muzzle jump. Fiber-optic sight are great. Designed and built by Americans for Americans.
@@jorgespat2651 still airsoft quality aluminum slide. It screams Cheap and Disposable. I paid only $100 more for my CP33 and it's much better gun. Steel bolt, fiber-optic sights, optics-ready, brace-ready, twice as large magazine.
One year later from your video, and I've just purchased a brand new CP33 for 418.99 (current msrp on kel tec site is $504) from BDU. New ones are arriving each week for purchase, making me regret I didn't hold out for the olive green over the black I just purchased for my wife. Also, from Amazon I've ordered a speedloader from American Speedloaders for 34.99 and shipping. All said, for under 500 total, I'm thoroughly convinced we are going to have a lot of fun at the range when it all arrives! Thanks for a great video, very informative. Probably get the TX22 in the future for edc, as the cp33 IS a bit bulky.
If you are worried about availability, skip these two and go with the Ruger Charger. Reliable with all kinds of ammo: check Threaded barrel: check Higher cap. than standard 10rd 22 cal handgun mags: check (BX 15 & 25) and with an adapter from MAC's website, the ability to mount a pistol brace and to turn it into a .... better pistol
Never shot the Taurus, but I love my CP33. It runs great with cheap 22 Thunderbolt. It turns as many heads at the range due to its accuracy as its appearance. Lots of fun to shoot. Mags are not difficult to load, the only trick is to push the previous round to the back before loading the next.
Actually that was the Claridge Hi tec a sadly out of production gun that is on my wish list It also made a cameo on Iron Man 2 where Justin Hammer was showing different options to weaponize War Machine.
CP33 with double the capacity of the Taurus. Also much tighter groups. These two guns aren’t in the same category. CP33 is supressable, has a rail for optics, target sights, greater sight radius, can be brace mounted but isn’t a carry gun. The Taurus is a gun you could holster like any other handgun. The CP33 is kind of a sub gun wannabe and about the only thing these guns have in common is they both shoot 22.
Though I never thought I'd buy a Taurus, after all the reviews, I bought the TX22 today. As far as a holster to fit it ,my Clinger holsters for my Sig Sauer P320 Compact fit like they were meant for it.
The Keltec looks like the station wagon of guns. The CP33 has Cool design, but I'd prefer it in a higher caliber. Reminds me of AR pistol without a mag well. That's why I give it to the Taurus. Taurus did a great job with the TX
Been thinking about getting a .22LR pistol so I can introduce my friends to shooting. Wasn't really looking at Taurus...now I am. That TX22 is looking like my next purchase.
@@travistucker7904 I've considered that one too. I know looks aren't the most important thing, but I'd prefer a barrel that doesn't stick out from the end of the slide. I live in Illinois where suppressors are illegal, so there's no immediate need for that. Both have great reviews and few negatives. I don't think either would be a bad choice.
Good review, thanks. I have had my eye on the Taurus since their reputation has been getting better lately, and I have seen them for $300.00 as you mentioned. That Series IV Ruger pistol keeps calling me for a hundred bucks more!
Really good thorough review. I was wondering which one to get. Got both. Love em both. The CP33 is definitely the most fun. The Tx22 is more affordable and much easier to load and clean. I have a older lady friend who has arthritis and can't rack most guns. She can rack the Tx22 no problem, and uses it as a carry gun. ( not my choice for Carry but better than a sharp stick). TX22 has cycled every good/cheap ammo out there, including subsonic. CP33 a little more finicky, but not bad compared to some semiautomatic 22s. Thanks for review bud.
I like then both.. my local gun shop has them both...but the deal breaker for me is the CP33 magazine. The TX22 will be what I'm going with. If they come out with better magazines for the CP33 I might pick it up later on down the road.
I've got a TX22 and only have about 250 to 300 rounds through it. I shot three different kinds of ammo: SK Pistol Match Special, Aguila Super Extra CPHV and bulk Federal Champion CPHV. I love the full size grip, the trigger is great and reset is short, it's super light, accurate and has good form and function. It's fun and easy to shoot, I got it at a good price even with the price gouging during the pandemic. I love it and look forward to ammo prices dropping again so I can shoot to my heart's content
Still waiting to see a CP33 around here with three big gun shops, including Bud's in the immediate area. TX22 is $299.99 here. I have version 2 of the PMR30. It works flawlessly and really like it so I'm looking to try the CP33.
I own them both, which is why I watched the video. Both are reliable and good shooters. You do really need the loader for the CP33 and then it's super reliable. I would agree the Kel Tec is more accurate. Both pistols are completely different and fulfill different missions. I love them both
Fantastic review but now I’m all confused. I was planning on getting the CP33 from the moment I first read about it. Now I’m not so sure. Due to arthritis in my wife’s hands the TX22 would be much easier to load and probably shoot ergonomically. Probably will go with the TX22. Appreciate the review very much.
I purchased a Auto Loader for Mine from "LUDEX" and this is a must for loading those 33n round magazines and I also purchased a 17 round extension for another magazine and I now have a 50 round magazine! I have had No Malfunctions at all for almost 1000 rounds and all my magazines load perfectly without a flaw!
Very good and thorough review. As one or two folks commented this is not exactly apples to apples, I mean NO disrespect. The CP-33 stands for Competition Pistol and 33 rounds. Any time a competition firearm is designated as such, the tolerances are much tighter and 99.9 % of the time are fairly picky eaters thus they holding tighter groups. I am an accuracy nut so I don’t mind finding what my girl enjoys eating which if you feed any lady right she will treat you right.
I bought a used taurus 380 the extractor broke on it I finally had to send it in to the gun company they didn’t make those pistols anymore or parts for them they sent me a brand new 9mm G2 I was so excited And couldn’t believe it the most accurate shooting 9mm I have ever had I would go with the Taurus just because they stand behind their product so well and if you have any problems you can’t get it fixed they will send you a brand new gun better than the one you have
Man I just got back from the rifle range with my CP33 I wanted to see what it would do and, I can easily hit s 12" gong at 150 yd . I have a holosun 510C on it and it's suppressed..It's freaking AWESOME.
I got an unsafe feeling at 14:13 and was wondering about the subsequent trigger pull. I thought I wanted the CP33 until my local gun store got one in stock and everybody struggled at loading the mag. Rim locks seemed all too easy. That took all the fun out of the gun for me.
Was going to buy a TX-22 but can't find one for less than $299. Ended up going with what I could find. CP-33 $559. Borrowed a friend's tx-22 and the only thing better is the grip, it's amazing. They have a speed loader for the mags now in the 33 and it works great. Have had 0 problems with it, even first round loading. Only filling the mag to 30-32.
Another point that could be brought up on the 2 is actual cleanup of the guns. I can go ahead and tell ya the Taurus would with that out. Shooting suppressed just chokes a gun so much forcing all of that gas and debris back into the action. My M&P22c suffers from this with a can. It also suffers from the poor rifling like so many other 22c that S&W has cranked out. Mine has leaded so bad it has cause tumbling issues. And it’s extremely hard to clean a 22c with its fixed barrel in the dip. With the Taurus you can pop it out and drop it in the dip. That is if the barrel is made out of an appropriate steel.
You had some great talking points on both, I will own the CP as soon as I can. Right now, I'm highly enjoying the TX22 and just love the grip ergo's and texture. If they do end up coming out with a "brace" for the CP, that would be a HUGE selling point. I am hoping to get my hands on one in the near future. Have a great weekend!
Haven’t shot the cp33 but I own the Taurus tx22 and man it is a very fun and reliable cheap 22lr pistol it’s small than the cp so it would suit carry better if you perfer
TX22 will be one of my next buys. More practical for my needs as a training gun for my 11 year old son. We have a small 22 revolver but reloading of course sucks.
Get both lol. I do really like the TX22 more though, especially for getting new shooters used to using a firearm. It's more of a traditional design and operates like a modern striker fired gun. The 16rd capacity also puts it in line with what you'll get from your typical compact 9mm handgun and it even has a rail for a light. The CP33 is a cool target gun though and the capacity is crazy. Put a red dot up there and this thing is going to be an absolutely laser gun.
Man that was an awesome review. Have really wanted the TX22 Mainly because its a true striker fire. But the kel tec has a lot of advantages also so for now I am getting the TX22 mostly for s.f. and price. Then let kel tec have a chance to build up supply possibly come down a tad and then jump on that baby. Subed.
Kel tec is more a target pistol " kel tec comes out with some interesting stuff I like it but will not get one just yet usually something needs working out on new models nice review thanks
so i have the sub2k and the ksg also the Taurus judge and the taurus pt111g2 ! i really love both companies however keltec can be hard to obtain certain firearms, i have to say that cp33 looks pretty sexy
good review. shame you got to spend some much time appeasing the haters . seems like everyone in the world is suddenly a gun instructor and you are doing everything wrong I made 2 videos and the comments acted like I was lucky to still be alive
I have the CP33 and it won't feed hollow points. I wish the reassembly was a little easier, getting everything properly aligned and in the proper groove is hard to do quickly. There is always the possibility of losing the pin too.
slip on rubber grip sleeves are available from many companies ,, all , and i stress all kel-tecs require a minimum of 300 + rounds run through and then a cleaning and your fav. lube , my pmr30 likes hoppes synthetic , remember they are polymer and can be finicky when very cold , polymer can shrink at first . after a proper break-in the actions will become super smooth , and damned reliable . yes both of mine are reliable with 40g , 36g , and cci 32/33g now broken in .
I’m On the fence between buying the Taurus TX22 and a Ruger Mark IV standard....want something light, easy to clean, reliable. Had a Kel Tec PMR, grip too big for me, sold it. All suggestions appreciated. Shoot straight, Be Well...
I have both 22/45... Which I love. But this Taurus looks pretty cool as a traditional firearm. And the magazine count would be a lot more fun than swapping out 10-round mags. I'm considering buying it here soon.. didn't think I'd buy another 22, or need another 20 to besides the river. I did have an Sr 22. Which was good initially I got tired of it. Kind of small and finicky after a while
CriticallyCorrect1 so I've bought a pro-mag product and had major issues with it feeding in my taurus! if i remember correctly it was a 32 or 33 rnd range mag for my pt111 gen 2. you must have had better luck with promag than i did,and I'm glad you did brother! if you have any feedback on how to make it actually function i would really appreciate it so i can tell my buddy i gave it to
@@thisolddog2259 , I use promag 32rd metal mags with both of my XD9 and 32rd mags in my sub2000 as well as 25rd plastic mags in my Marlin 795 and I have never ever had a hang up with any one of these mags in the 8 years +/- using them. I imagine there are certain after market mags that don't work well in certain makes and models. Maybe I've been lucky with the particular guns I use with promags products.
No more Kel Tec for me. Bought a new PMR 30 in December. Firing pin broke in February. Shipped it to Kel Tec UPS per the instructions in the manual. They fixed it quickly, but only reimbursed me for $35 of the $110 it cost me. Done.
Kel-Tec will send you a shipping label if you have a problem with a new gun. You shouldn't have paid anything to ship the gun. You spent $110 on shipping?!? Do you live in Antarctica ?
Liberty4Ever , that’s news to me. I followed their instructions from their manual, which said to prepay UPS. UPS only ships guns next day air. I live in Arizona. Kel Tec never mentioned anything to me about sending a shipping label. This after I called them and wrote them a letter. It sounds like you’re confused.
@@Skfoster64 - I'm one of the moderators at the Kel-Tec Owners Group forum (KTOG) and we hear about this frequently. Most people don't visit a forum to say their new firearm is running great, but a high percentage of the first time visitors are there because they have a problem and are looking for a solution. It can be difficult to get Kel-Tec to reply to an email, but once you get them on the phone they'll take good care of you. They have an excellent warranty. They'll open a service ticket and if it's a new gun (typically within a month, sometimes three months, or a serious problem on the first range trip even months later), they will issue a call tag and email a pre-addressed shipping label billed to their shipping account. They'll fix the problem and ship the firearm back with a work order listing what actions were performed. The last item is invariably a live fire function test to ensure that the repair was successful.
@@Skfoster64 - I just checked and I did see the UPS prepaid shipping statement in the PMR-30 user manual. I then recalled having read it before. I thought that might be intended only for non-warranty service, but it seemed to apply even to warranty work. Kel-Tec offers a lifetime warranty to the original owner, so if you bought the gun new, it would always be covered under the lifetime warranty. It's nuts that UPS charged $110 to ship a PMR-30 from Arizona to Florida.
@@Liberty4Ever, thanks for taking time to provide this information. My first mistake was following the directions in the manual and not calling first. Then, when I tried to ship from the UPS Store right down the street, they told me firearms have to be shipped through their "Service Centers," which was almost an hour away. Then, when I got there, I learned it was going to be $110 because their policy is guns must be shipped next day air. I did call Kel-Tec after I shipped and asked about the reimbursement. The guy told me the limit for shipping reimbursement is $35, which they did eventually send me. However, he never mentioned the information you just provided, and they never communicated back to me after I sent a letter to them. I wish they'd update the manual. I thought I was doing everything the right way. Thanks.
My son has the Keltec and I bought my wife the TX22, Both are accurate and dependable. What more could you ask for? The price point on the Taurus is the deal maker. Sweet pistola!
My TX22 does not like Winchester Wildcat and M-22. Stovepipes, light strikes, failures to pick up rounds from the mag...over a 50% failure rate with those 2 from Winchester. Rem Thunderbolt, Golden Bullet and 4 different CCIs are nearly 100%. Hopefully it won’t start having issues with those as well. It’s great when it works.
GLMontyWV I shot M-22 to see if it worked out of my TX22. It did, but I will not keep shooting it. Thunderbolts are a nice cheap diet for mine, and when I want to see fireballs, I load up the Stingers.
I owned a kel pmr-30 and I had a lot of trouble loading the mag even with instructions 🤣. I was going to ask somebody in the gun store if there was the loading procedure with the cp33 just to avoid a headache like such
I had to wait until the second generation of the sub 2000 came out before I could find one. Love the 2000!!!! I still don't have my su16c yet. Kel tec is slow to get their product to market. I can't imagine this to change for a while.
Ruger 10/22 don’t have feed ramps built in, it’s nice Taurus did. I got the CP33 for Ammo capacity and the different look. Might still get a Taurus in the future looked like a great gun. Doesn’t matter which you choose just buy one and piss off some liberals! Support 2nd amendment buy supporting gun manufacturers!
Eventually I'll get the CP33 but very happy with the Taurus. I also got some extra mags straight from Taurus and they shipped them quickly. More to come after I watch the rest.
I love my CP33. Holosun H507 w/riser, 1913 folder. Equally accurate as my factory 10/22 rifle, and so far… more reliable 😊 That Taurus TX22 is a completely different class, if I owned a Glock I might consider it. But then again I’d probably just get a 22 conversion instead
It would be nice if Taurus would come out with a longer barrel version. 4 in is a bit too short for 22LR. I always thought Kel-Tec guns look like toys, but that's purely subjective
