It's interesting. He was there just over 2.5 years and, from my understanding, he left on good terms and Vince gave him his blessings as he wanted to go back to fighting. There is talk that some senior management and others like HHH didn't like him and, with WWE giving legacies to previous wrestlers who were bigger than him. Jim Ross, in his book, hints at Shamrock on some occasions being difficult. The Incestuous storyline refusal might have pissed them off. I don't blame him for refusing though. I think also Shamrock was his own man which WWF /E don't like. Also, despite liking Shamrock as a teenager circa 1997-99, retrospectively, while he was good, he wasn't great. Angle, Lesnar were far better workers. Shamrock came across real, authentic, legit but he never struck me as anything above mid card. His promos and charisma weren't great either. His best matches were with superior talents like The Rock, HHH, Owen Hart, Foley, Austin etc. His last 12 months in WWE were a bit lackluster. I remember he turned heel as the fans started booing them (possibly because they didn't see him as a main event level babyface). He became face again the last 6 months when he was in the mid card. I think WWF at the time invested a lot in him.
@tebraizshahzad3364
@tebraizshahzad3364 Год назад
@Eric Yoder Have you read Jim Ross' 2 autobiographies? It's interesting. Rather than rip or lay into Vince, he pretty much tactfully but articulatey and pointedly repeatedly points out Vince's flaws, especially in the 2nd book. He politely but candidly calls out Vince botching the invasion angle, how the power went to his head after buying WCW. How his ego was easily massagable by cronies and how it clouded his judgement. For the Kiss My Arse club, he merely questions how such a successful promotter with such a string roster and writing team wasn't fulfilling his potential by coming up with such an empty storylines. He also politely rips into Vince's booking of WWE circa 2008-13. JR apparently would tell this to his face, that's why Vince always wanted to mock him on tv. Jim didn't retaliate by cussing or super shooting on Vince. He took a milder route than Foley did in his Hardcore diaries. He shone a light on Vince's flaws or failings in a credible manner, especially circa 2001-2013, many of which are true. As a result he earbs credibility in his frank well put assessment of Vince's flaws. The WWE for me hasn't been worth watching since 2012. I don't watch Aew but JR his doing what he loves. Vince lost it years ago and has finally beem exposed for the arsehole scumbag he always was. I know JR can come across as annoying and sanctimonious but he was spot on abouta Vince. He still did pay tribute to his employer who certainly saved him from a career of low paid independence after hw lwft WCW in 1993. He got to earn millions.

This guy was my favorite wrestler as a kid, I loved his epic blow outs and was really looking forward to seeing him with gold in WWF! With that said though I remember reading rumors that Shane McMahon had issues with Ken, I’m not sure if that’s true though and might’ve just been internet rumblings!

That answers some question. While I didn't watch WWE at that time (heck, I still don't) I always wondered why they just acted like he was never even there. I really enjoyed his time in IMPACT and it would be awesome to see him back at IMPACT!

One of the first WWF matches I remember watching, was a Cage match between Ken, Rock & Mankind. Had an older brother who was into wrestling, so my parents recorded the event on 📼. Still have the tape to this day. Also remember seeing a young Edge n Brett Harte on the event. The main event was Stone Cold v. both Undertaker n Kane. Definitely a childhood memory, I won’t forget anytime soon. 👏🏼💯

I will never forget Shamrock's impact in that Bret Hart vs Stonecold Steve "I quit" match. Shamrock literally helped to usher the first and perhaps the only time when there was a face and heel turn happening at the same time. Never seen anything like it! Shamrock attacking Bret after the match made it possible for the double face/heel turn of both Stonecold and the Hitman. It was phenomenal and amazing to watch it all happen. The crowd switched to cheering for Stonecold and booing Bret in the span of just a couple of minutes. It was crazy!!🤣🔥🔥🔥👍🏾

GREAT WORK AS USUAL MY G CHRIS! Hooooollllyyyyy! Its actually really wild how spot on he is as far as WWE never mentioning Him or literally anything He ever did! They don't even use him for current B-Roll/Clips from The Attitude Era/Past Era's/Etc. WWF even Built A Fucking Lion's Den Caged Ring & Created A Whole Damn Match Type/Stipulation Around Shamrock! & Had more than 1 Lion's Den Match! Lol They legit even mention Dan The Beast Severen more than Ken!? SMFH (Dan is A Legit Bad Ass dont get me wrong, But his WWF run was nothing, obviously because of everything that was happening behind the scenes.... Like Tattoo The Devils Numbers on his Forhead!?

Quick rant: The LEAST they could do....is platform the Rock/Shamrock feud. That would be a nice rivalry pack for the network. Next to Austin vs McMahon, and Taker vs Kane, and Rock vs HHH, that rivalry was one that sharpened both Rock and Shamrock. Back then, watching at 10 years old, I thought for sure 1998 would be the year of Austin, Rock, Shamrock and KANE. It was....but kinda less for Shamrock. But I swear, he wasn't the same after the turn of the new year in 1999. He was the "Lunatic Fringe" for real in '97. Love how the tension with Faarooq ("if you think you're a man, why don't you step in that ring with me.") basically broke Shamrock in--had a good spot as ref with one of the biggest matches in the Bret/Austin feud (another legendary rivalry) at Mania 13. He had the feud starting to build with the Nation, and then had that WWF championship match with Shawn (where everybody knew he'd get screwed) and didn't get another world title shot after the screw finish and "I own this place" bullshit from Shawn. That feud with Rock/NOD was a great build up for both (including the surrounding guys like D-Lo, Mark, Godfather, Owen, Faarooq, Blackman, Severn, etc). Then he won KOTR in '98, which meant he was going to be gunnin' for the champion...he had the run shot against Austin, then basically got trapped in the midcard friendzone. (Just like Bulldog...I mean, How dafuq wasn't he the first 'British' WWF champion? What a missed opportunity, but that's another story). Having become a corporate flunkie shortly after SummerSlam '98, and becoming sort of a hollowed intercontinental champion (after it being taken off Rock, passed to HHH, then stripped off him to go Shamrock) because he'd already been "humbled" and shoved down the ladder multiple times. And by 1999, just being a flunky, he just got shoved further in the background. He joined up with The Union to battle the Corporate Ministry, that was cool (Test got some shine, so did Big Show). That fizzled out. Then what? Feud with Val Venis and other randos, then Jericho? Eventually being trashed by that later part of 1999, Ken can thank three people for that erasure and burial overall. Vince, HHH and Shawn who were still basically running things there (HHH more by late '99), or had major stroke to basically cancel hard working talent for whatever excuse they came up with. Vince, Shawn, HHH. There's your "cancel culture" right there. And if they wanna go with missed dates? Let's talk about the Warrior. Sure they didn't put the belt on him again, but they still had him going over a lot, and squashing everybody. But hey, that's just my speculation as a mark. Still kinda sad we never got to see Shamrock vs Angle...or Shamrock vs Brock. That could just bring back the Lion's Den match. I gather they'd have Brock win (because "BRRRROCK LLLLESNARRRR"), but I'd still love to see it. In a way though, I'm glad Ken got out, as he said "no" to some fucked up angle that not even WCW was doing, and he could have met the same fate as Owen. Thanks for sharing this convo.
