I’m sad y’all didn’t understand that Levi said that it’s okay to hesitate when it comes to killing because even he said he doesn’t know what’s “good” or “bad”

Bro like, the act of taking ones life isn’t something Jean ever thought he would have to consider. At the start of the series he just wanted to live a peaceful life in the capital but a sense of guilt and responsibility drove him into the survey corps where he would be fighting titans. Now all of a sudden he’s been told to kill humans and you just expect him to do it? Mikasa didn’t hesitate because it was for Eren and she’s already killed before, but anyone, ANYONE would’ve hesitated in taking another humans life and in those circumstances it’s a miracle Armin did what he did, since it was for a friend. But calling him dead weight and useless is just wrong, Jean joined the Scouts to save people and now he’s forced to kill them.

Fun Fact: It was confirmed by the author Hajime Isayama that the people who made that hot air balloon were Armin's parents!

When they call the one character with the most character development in the show up to this point "dead weight" that hurt me. They haven't watched season 1 in so long that I think they just don't remember how Jean was, how much he's grown and what they all are fighting for.

This season literally had some of the best rated episodes in TV in general not just in anime so I can't wait to see yall lose your shit in the rest of the reactions especially Lupasan

Tell me why I cringed when they called jean "dead weight". Unlike the other cast members he was raised in a normal household with loving mother, and because of that grew up to be a spoiled brat but had soon learned to grow when people close to him died because of the titans. He was supposed to join the military police and live peacefully (which he could since he ranked 6-7th) but choose the survey corps, so that his friend who died could rest and so that no more people would die by the hands of the titans. But now he suddenly have to kill humans? the same lives he swore to protect when he joined the survey? Give the poor guy a break.

yooo the disrespect to Jean is wild, like wtf. its tough to kill another person no matter the scenario. we saw how hard it was for Armin and what it did to him. go back and listen to what Levi told Jean at the campfire, how come yall only pay attention to Levi when hes zooming around, listen to his words about right and wrong

You 3 are judging Jean too hard, acting like it'd be that simple to take a life like WTF?

It wasn't explained too well in the anime but in the manga that titan you Eren turn into was the third one he did that day. The first one was 15m tall and could follow orders, write and even create a structure with some logs and rope. They also determined that Eren's titan can't talk even if it wanted to because of lack of lips on Eren's titan. The second one was a little smaller and didn't follow orders, and even destroyed the structure that he created before. Then after 1/2 hour of rest they tried and got the third titan that you got to see. They came to the conclusion that Eren's titan didn't have the innate ability to harden like Annie and Reiner.

Isayama is proven right once more, people will always prefer one-note badass characters like Mikasa over complex and multi-faceted characters like Jean. Thats the reason why writers barely even try to come up with complex and thought provoking stories since they can always easily cash in on a hype farm. Unfortunately a lot of people do lack a sense of empathy, I get that this is just an anime but this kind of shit happens in real life as well. People just don't bother to think about how other people feel, almost as if in their minds they think, "why should I care about them? Its not like they're the main character or a cool character that I like." It's even made more clear as the season progress (Spoilers): Watch how a lot of people trashed on Eren because of how he reacted in the cave, a select few quotes from some reactions "dude stop being so sensitive", "levi wouldn't have broken down here" "damn he really is a useless main character" and how people started riding his dick when he became a stoic badass. Also watch how most reactors disregard Floch's ( I know hes an asshole especially in the future but in the ceremony he did make a few good points) arguments because he is as he puts it "fodder". Attack on Titan is literally Isayama's way of indirectly speaking with his audience.

Oof they call him dead weight geez you know I feel like part of the problem is people don't think of this with real world principles. This guy has never killed another human before ever so killing one even someone whos tryna kill him will take some type of toll or effect on him same is it would any human in the real world.

Red Swan (the opening) makes a lot of sense when you watch the season.

Its crazy how armin trained so hard to fight titans but his first kill wasn't even a titan

It's not easy for a 15 year old boy who enlisted into the survey corps to fight titans(not humans) because he didn't want the bones in Trost district to be disappointed in him who has never taken a life before like the rest of the squad besides Eren, Mikasa, and Levi(the edgy gang). Please put respect on Jean's name. He's legit one of the coolest characters in this series.

Calling one of the best developed characters from season 1 ''dead weight'' is straight up disrespectful lol. Other than Mikasa,Eren and Levi, nobody else killed humans before, they are not machines that go killer mode when they get their orders.

Y’all, they’re still kids. They didn’t sign up to kill humans, only Titans. Even in anime, you have to apply how people would react in the real world. People will always hesitate to kill. They can’t all turn off their feelings.

Yeah, I mean Jean was being "human" there you know. He didn't even want to join the survey corps in the first place but he still ended up joining them. Killing titans is what they do. Those weapons were specifically made to KILL TITANS NOT PEOPLE. I mean just imagine, your boss suddenly asks you to kill a person instead of a titan. Of course you'd hesitate, because that's what being human is. Mikasa killed them because she'd do anything for Eren, as for Armin I'd say that was a miracle even. Though I can understand why you guys would say Jean was "dead weight" I can't blame you because with all the fictional shows that we've been watching to this day (some with very violent content), we pretty much became numb to killing people (I mean watching a fictional character kill another fictionam character, I'm not saying it's good to kill so please don't misunderstand). Tldr; Jean was just acting realistically in that moment. I bet you any person who didn't kill a person before would hesitate just like he did!

Leave Jean alone lol! Remember, they are teenagers who never thought they’d have to deal with killing a person. Armin hates that he had to do it and it changed him.

Jean is one of the most complex and consistent characters throughout the show and even further down the line in the manga. His realistic and relatable personality is always there so I hope you guys warm up to him as the show progresses And he's literally a teenager ordered to kill a human being, the one thing that he wanted to protect by joining the scouts.

Lupa buggin. IMO Red Swan is by far the best opening for the show so far, and one of the best of all time. The storytelling in that opening is unmatched.

I’m surprised they didnt feel empathy for Jean’s character. When I first saw this season, especially episode 2 I was like “Yo people are shooting PEOPLE?? Levi just put his 3DMG through a PERSON!” It caught me off guard that they came to a point with humans fighting each other. Now imagine being an actual character there and ordered to just kill people too, when you’re in a job that was supposed to fight titans and protect humans and you’ve never killed another human before.

I don’t know if Reiner and Bertholdt knew this or not, but the scouts already started to doubt them and was planning to lure them to a secure location. That’s why after Reiner told Eren, Eren tried to play it off and then it flashbacked to the scene. Eren was going according to plan but the Reiners mental breakdown came along when he said they were just kids and didn’t know what to do anymore, he was going to force Eren to go, and then Mikasa attacked and they transformed. Reiner’s plan was that only he will transform, take Eren (if he agreed), Bertholdt and maybe Ymir, and just leave without causing a mess

Dunno how much it'll matter since you guys are binging it all the way through anyway, but in the last episode of Part 1's ending song, they edit it to tease Part 2 of season 3. It does show a very important scene that happens pretty deep into Part 2 tho. Just wanted to throw that out if you guys were interested!!

Y'all gave Jean way too much shit for not wanting to murder a person with little to no warning or even time to figure out wtf was going on. Not everyone in the series is like Levi, Mikasa and Eren. Characters like Jean are great because of how they struggle to hold onto their morals when forced into desperate situations.

It’s really not that simple to take a life, Levi was telling him it’s ok to hesitate no normal human can flip the switch and just kill with out hesitation, even mikasa hesitated when she tried to kill Reiner and bertholdt on top of the wall in season 2

If Jean's hesitation caused him or someone else to die the comments would be so different. That's what Jean's hesitation would've done if Armin didn't come through. Have the break down when you or your comrades are not in a life or death situation.

2:24 I felt that too, at first. But, by the end of the season, it became my favourite of all openings. Sure it doesn't give you the impact that you used to, but it packs a different kind of punch.
