Definitely dt175 is best. It's designed for power in speed... 200 is tge other way round.. and you can see the demerit

Just over 100 km/h with this setup. You could change the sprockets to more top speed if you are only on paved roads.

Thanks! They are budget, but it was a decent bargain as we flew in to Nairobi looking for two bikes that could do 5-6000 km in a few weeks without too much prep or mid trip maintenance. I had a dt175 in Thailand back in the late 90’ies and it did well in island roads.

They are enjoyable bikes, and downright simple not requiring anything more. You can trail ride them as they are.... I'm from the Philippines, Allan and here is a video of my DT125 doing a hillclimb towards the entry to the main trail site where we frequent most in the past years.... They have a responsive low end torque (these DT125 and DT175) which makes technical trail riding so easy apart from the fact that they have low seat height amd low center of gravity.... i also got a DT175 which i imported all the way from Sydney, Australia ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uX53I5_92mM.html

I ran out once in Kenya, being heavier and carrying spares and tools I used more fuel. We’d top up whenever we had they chance before going bush riding and sometimes took a 1.5 l water bottle. I think Giant Loop might have a soft fuel bag that might be handy.

I Think it was about 110 km/h A little less with all the gear, but you could carry 2 front sprockets one that gives you more top speed and one with better acceleration for off road riding.

compared to Yamaha DT175, Honda XL 125 is hopelessly underpowered.

We were looking forn250’s for a 5500 km journey but they were all in bad shape, these two dt’s were in great shape and at a good price as they had been sitting abandoned at a company for about a year. Empty tanks and flat tires etc

It is sitting in Mozambique waiting for someone to ride it! It was such a good ride :)

We bought them 2nd hand. Changed oil and plugs and drove off into the sunset.

Well, there are a few parameters to consider. The weight on the bike, the road condition, terrain, the cruising speed, bike condition, the gearing of the bike etc etc But with a load of about 70 kg, factory gearing, 60-70 km/h cruising on decent - flat - paved roads you should get about 20 km per liter.

Bought the bikes off an agricultural company in Nairobi for about €2000. If I still had it in that condition it would be worth almost the same, but i'm not sure i'd sell it.

We looked at classified ads, spoke to friends and family in the region and got lucky. I don’t have them anymore, so I’m afraid I can’t help you.

They were up for it, I didn’t want to push any further as they would’ve hurt themselves coming off at that speed.

+Sefa Denizoğlu Hey Sefa, glad you liked it! We were happy with our choice of bikes, our main worry was getting 2 stroke oil, but we didn't have a problem. We weren't going very fast, and when just cruising I think I got about 18 km per litre, which was a bit more than Lorrayne, but I'm heavier and I had the tools and spares on my bike. Once you reach 100 + km/h it is vibrating quite a lot, but as I said we were rarely going at that speed for long periods. How far are you planning on riding it?

+Allan Pedersen Well, I think I'll start with short rides on the weekends within Rwanda, it's not more than 200-300 km to borders. And, I don't think I will go much over those speeds. I was more concerned about the oil consumption this retailer gave me (300-350 km/L), I guess he didn't know either.

+Sefa Denizoğlu I think it a great little bike, and we found lots of people driving similar or older DT175's in local towns throughout our trip, so you're likely to have someone being able to help with parts if you have a breakdown. If you think if has excessive oil consumption see if you can have the pistonrings replaced before any long trip and see if it improves. Will you be posting videos or pictures of your trips? I've never been to Rwanda :)

+Allan Pedersen Well, I'll buy a brand new one in a couple of months, so let's see how much oil it's going to be consuming. I'll wait for the rain season trend first, then perhaps I'll share some videos. the roads here are very good with lots of twists in the mountains. I hope I'll enjoy some good views, fingers crossed ;-)
