Sorry to say but any artificial sugars you use still register as @sweet for the brain, which means = insulin production. Artificial sweeteners will kick you out of ketosis too.
Eating cornetto ice cream while watching this ;) I tried my 1st keto and i threw the muffin. My 💜 felt so bad so probably next time i will request a special one so that i will not waste food ;)
i really don't know what there waiting for especially when most countries diabetic associations have recommended a keto diet and that means millions of people . i keep writing to them to no avail ...one day hopefully
there are some sub and hamburger joints in my town that offer keto buns with their sandwiches don't know why some of the big chains don't offer it .....might cut into their profit margins ...to bad...charge a bit more ...
Pro tips: For the breakfast items its cheaper to get the items individually. Egg is $0.89 and sausage is $1.29 and cheesecis $0.59. The sandwich price is $3.99 sooooo you save money if you orfer individual items. And its the same with lunch/dinner items. And Mcdonalds does lettuce wraps if you want no bun.
Good tips! 👍 I bet they don't give you any discounts for not buying all these buns! This is what would annoy me the most! In fact, I don't know why all keto fans don't WRITE/email McDonalds immediately, and overrun their Twitter, so as to prod them into at least providing a keto bun! 😏 I would also worry that all these unwrapped burgers and eggs would go stone cold in about 3 seconds. 🙄 So I'd rather take the buns and take them home to feed to the birds, my dog, etc. Maybe bring some of my OWN keto buns to the restaurant, if I was going to have them as a picnic. Incidentally: I can't believe that there are ANY carbs, AT ALL, in a few bits of lettuce!
I really like these fast food tutorials. They're great for those times when you're not at home and your options are limited due to choices and/or time. I hope you take us thru most of the national chains.👍
I’d like to share my FAVORITE keto fast food thing. That’s I think worth the money (it costs me like $6) and I eat it more than I’d like to admit. I get a chicken power bowl from Taco Bell with no beans, no rice, no pico. I have them add extra lettuce, and most of the time I also get nacho cheese added to it. It comes with guac, shredded cheese, and avocado ranch too. In total it’s like 8g of net carbs (with the nacho cheese) which is totally worth it in my book.
So not sure if you guys know this but you can order everything on the breakfast menu as a side. My usual order is a side of sausage, bacon, Canadian bacon, eggs with cheese, and steak with a large coke zero and it's like 7 bucks.
Hey Joe, thanks soo much for sharing! Your videos are awesome. One thing for lowcarb at McDonald's is, you can ask for your burgers/sandwiches to be wrapped in leaf lettuce, so instead of getting shredded lettuce, you get your food wrapped in a lettuce bun 😊
Joe, thank you so much for making this video. With the popularity of keto, many adherents to keto become almost snobbish about it, to the point that if you frequent a fast food establishment they ostracize you as someone who has violated some sacred "keto tenet". The truth is many people cannot afford purely organic, free range, grass fed/grass finished pure as the driven snow keto foods from heaven. For many, fast food establishments are the only things for which they have quick, easy and affordable access . Hence, if you are going to advocate for a healthy paradigm like keto, you have to meet people where they are. As a person who lost over 100 lbs, going from a morbidly obese BMI to being on the low end of the normal range, I credit most of my weight loss too less than perfect food, much of which was consumed in restaurants. If I had to go out of my way to only purchase food canonized by the high priests of keto perfectionism, I would have failed miserably from the start. Now that I have surpassed my weight loss goals, interestingly, I am focusing more on food quality, and actually opting for the better food options and frequent fast food establishments considerably less. Its all about baby steps.
Very eloquently said! We're on this journey of improved health and weightloss which can indeed be difficult without the added stress of the Keto police.
Love this. So true. It wasn’t until super recently that I was financially stable enough to start buying grass-fed, grass-finished, pastured animal products. There were MANY times that I depended on the convenience and affordability of fast food options to maintain a low carb lifestyle. And guess what? I STILL eat McDonald’s keto-style a couple times a month. McDoubles are the shit, I don’t care what the purists say. Lol
So well said! I'm down 75 pounds. By making some of these things in my life. But like you said the ease helped me not to quit! And when out of town boy does this help. That being said I generally order al la carte so sometimes, not always, it can be a better price break down. My favorite is chicken patty and bacon then i break the chicken in half and put the bacon in the middle! 😊
I'm not sure what kind of keto adherents and high priests you've come across, but most people would probably just retort with the fact that buying and cooking your own eggs (given the amount of egg-based "sandwiches" in the video) would be cheaper than going to a fast food. Even if they're not organic, free-range and whatnot they definitely won't be worse than the fast food eggs AND you're getting more food for your money. Not sure how many eggs you could buy in the US for $2.29 (5:31), but I wouldn't be surprised if it were more than one measly "fluffy egg". The equivalent here would be 6-18 eggs depending on the quality.
@@TheDietChef what?! You can do that. Last time I went to taco Bell and got the chicken cheese melt without the tortilla like you said in your taco bell video, and the worker was so confused and asked how, I just told him to put it a bowl? Got a judgy look from him.
when i order the buttermilk chicken sanddwich w/ no bun the guy told me to order "just the patty". now i get 3 for like 6 bucks. its not keto or super duper low carb but its better than getting with the bun. and its some of the best chicken you can get anywhere if u ask me.
@Jozzer pizzapizza in Canada sells keto pizza now, I havnt tried it, and I think its still 2g a slice so you probably dont want to eat the whole pizza, but still, its something
A&W has the BEST lettuce wrapped burgers!!! My fav is a teen burger, no bun no ketchup wrapped in lettuce :) The way they stack the lettuce pieces as the top & bottom “bun” holds together SO well that I can eat it like a normal burger, no fork or knife!
I have gotten the keto big mac several times . I don't skip the special sauce because, why? That's what makes it a Big Mac..lol And for those 2 extra carbs, it is soooo totally worth it to me. I just fit it into my macros. Big Macs have always been my favorite... knowing I can still have one on Keto makes me very happy :)
Did you know you can order a double cheeseburger and take away the ketchup and the mustard add lettuce and Mac sauce and it is way cheaper than ordering the big Mac? And it's basically the same!
I’m glad that I have been doing great ordering the right stuff 🤩 Thanks for this video . Guys, round eggs 🥚 at McDonald’s are real fresh eggs not frozen.
I am so glad to see that you made a video about going low-carb at fast-food restaurants. This may sound funny, but I did a similar video awhile back but you gave so much more information than I did. I am shocked that the dipping sauces have a lot less carbs than salad dressings. I always stayed away from all sauces but now knowing that the dipping sauces have less carbs, I may try that from now on. Thank you for doing this video. All of the information you give is great.
Congrats on the Men's Health article Joe!! You understand that eating the keto way sometimes requires a fast food stop; I'm glad your efforts have been recognized by Men's Health. 💙💙💙your channel😊👍👍
Very detailed video...thanks for taking the time to do this...as someone has started keto and did the meal prep thing, but in need of a change, this is great...really appreciate it
I rarely eat at McDonalds now, but in a pinch or when I am with my nieces who want to go their, it's nuce to know what us Keto & affordable. Times are tough financially for so many if us now, videos like these will help keep people on track & not go off their low-carb lifestyle. Don't mind the lady hating on you on IG Joe👍👍👍
It's funny, all the money I'm spending on healthier eating is the same amount I was spending on junk eating. Hell, I'm even saving a bit. The drastic switch only served to make my life better, both financially and healthfully!
Quarter pounder is the truth at McDonalds....I actually never realized before I did this video that the Big Mac uses "dollar menu" hamburgers. Even though they cost a bit more, I'm ordering those over everything on the lunch/dinner menu.
Joe Duff - The Diet Chef Also ... the Double Quarter pounder is Actually the single pattie Divided into Two patties! I discovered this when I bought a double a few times, then bought two singles to place both patties on one bun. (I haven't converted to Keto just yet). After doing this, I realized just how large those 2 patties were compared to the 2 patties that actually come on the Double!
I have lost 70 pounds in a year on low carbs and intermittent fasting. This just looks sad. Go to Wendy's or A&W for a lettuce burger instead of McDs. I workout a lot and have allowed myself nuggets for the protein.
I love your fast food videos! My boyfriend and I are starting Keto and find your in-depth videos helpful. Looking forward to you covering more fast food restaurants, especially WENDY'S!
I work at a Wendy's in Canada. We view Keto guests as normal. In fact our cash register software has "lettuce as bun" as a side option. The crew I work with know my order by heart! Double Baconator, lettuce as bun, no ketchup, sub Asiago cheese instead of American process cheese,, extra mayo, add pickles, add onions. When I want a real treat, I add one scoop of avocado!!! I can almost afford it when the Baconators are on Special 😉
When I do eat out at McD's I like to order the double -1/4 lb burger as " two -1/4 lb. burger patties". Its ends up cheaper than ordering as a bunless sandwhich. There is no onion, mustard, lettuce or cheese, which is okay by me; I just ask for mayo. I like the idea of adding lettuce for a sort of salad, thanks😊.

Joe you can also order just the meats and save more money. You can order grilled chicken fillets for $2.00 You can order just patties for $1.00 I'm sure you can order just a round egg for $1.00 and sausage aswell. Save that money my man
Thanks for letting me know!! you can’t on the app 😕which is how i put most of my order in so they’d get it right...and i wish i could’ve ordered the chicken, but the one i went to wasn’t sell anything chicken related 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheDietChef my local one also didnt have chicken yesterday so they might be having supplier shortages. And yeah I use the app 80% of the time too so I dont get to order it that way that often
Wanna know what the POWERFUL secret to Keto at McDonald's? Qtr pound burger patties can be ordered ALA CARTE by themselves. In HAWAII (high prices!) We pay 1.50 per qtr pound burger and 80 cents per regular patty. I think you're spending way to much money in my opinion lol
Did you order all this food ahead of time and then just drive through and pick it up? The only thing I ever order at McDonald's is decaf coffee and besides salad with a piece of grilled chicken. That was a great tip about the dipping sauces! I look forward to returning to McDonald's and trying that!
It’s great but honestly looking at all of these, the price and the size just doesn’t seem filling for cheap I’d personally just make my own food at home over a tiny sausage patty for 3$
Thank you so much for the great video!! The commenters that are hating on fast food should get a life, the content of the video was literally in the title and it's not like you're advocating fast food just providing needed information on how to keep keto when dining out on fast food is the only option. For myself, I travel cross country constantly by car and by plane and healthier options just aren't always available. I love how thorough your videos are and how your delivery is fast paced but clear and easy to understand. Just found your channel and I'm bingeing on all the fantastic content.
I appreciate you saying all that 🙏🏻 You are EXACTLY right with everything you said...I honestly care less if you go there or not. I just want to show people WHO DO GO THERE how to order keto 🙂
Thanks for this. Very helpful for road trips. In general I don’t eat at these fast food places because of all chemicals in the food. But sometimes it’s the only option. Thank you again.
I make a barbacoa bowl... Shredded beef/pork.. (from heb for about $7.00) add lime juice and a little shredded cheeze... Topped with lettuce tossed with avacado green sauce... Ans a little more lime juice.. Its EXTREMELY restaurant style.. Filling and delicious!
One thing i learned from keto y’all is don’t trip on the sauces. It’s not that much carbs. It won’t derail you. Have the sauce. Just avoid the breads n fries. You’ll still lose weight.
My favorite is the Sausage Egg & Cheese McGriddle. ❤️ I make my own Keto style at home though: Egg white / mozzarella chaffle (2) - with fried egg, sausage pattie, and slice of cheese inside. Dip in SF maple syrup - scrumptious!! Great Value brand frozen breakfast sausage patties are just as good as McD's.
I love the bunless Whopper minus ketchup. With lettuce, tomato, mayo and, yes, onions, it's like eating a hamburger salad. I pick out the pickles and eat them first as an appetizer. 😋
In Canada, the only thing on the $1 menu is drinks LOL. The breakfast items seem to have random prices; the single sausage patty seemed like a good deal, but as soon as you add egg or cheese, it goes up a lot!
I’ve been trying to stay away from fast food places. I’m not that strong. I will mess around and say “fuck it” add some fries, and an Oreo McFlurry 😭😭 oh and a bunch of ketchup packets.
It's usually ALL cheaper if you order the items off the A-La-Carte menu. One 1/4 pound patty is 1.40 give or take so to order a patty or two with cheese and bacon and you can have them add the condiments. Round eggs are the best because they are cooked fresh, the scrambled eggs are eggs in a carton and the flat eggs are precooked and come to the store frozen.
I'm not sure where you live where these fast food workers are so nice. I'm from NY if I ordered a burger without a bun I'd get roasted through the drive thru intercom lol. Great video though.
@@TheDietChef the app is definitely nice. However since I've started keto (and especially since quarantine) I prefer to keep my meals home cooked. But I'll definitely remember this in the future if I'm ever out and in a rush
Joe... i’m not sure if this is the most ridiculous video I’ve ever seen or the best video I’ve ever seen. But it is the most eye opening most informative video I have ever seen. Won’t be going to McDonald’s again, take 10min and preparation a egg or a piece of sausage and cheese at home.
Thank you for the past 2 fast food videos. OK so fast food is not the best but sometimes...we all get stuck :D and honestly your out, your hungry and not prepared! I used the taco bell tips last week and fed the hunger without guilt :) Thanks Joe!
You can ask for a quarter pound patty at McDonald's. They are about $1.50 per patty locally. I combine that with two McDouble's (BOGO 4 $1). Obviously, no buns, no ketchup. And once you order it, you can link your order to your app and then order it from the app. 2 1/4# patties, 4 mcDouble patties, add extra onions and extra pickles on the McDoubles. That is pretty cheap. *Also, if you fill out the receipt survey, so,etimes it is BOGO for any sandwich. Next order, 2 double 1/4 pounders.
You can order just the patties you don't have to get the sandwich without the bun. I've seen quarter pounder patties as cheap as $1.25 at some restaurants
I loved this video! It is really helpful, I also loved all the info you gave us, the visual part of every item and the exact price.. I hate when people say "I think it was about $2..". So Thanx a lot for all the tips!! Great content!! Greetings from Mexico 🙏🇲🇽🇲🇽🥑💚❤️🖤♥️💛❣️💜💙💕👍😊🤗🎉
Not sure if you already mentioned it, but in my city McDonald's sells a breakfast deal for $4.00 that you can get all day long that consists of two Mcmuffin sandwiches made with sausage, egg, and cheese, just remove the bread part.
Definitely McDoubles, no bun no ketchup for me. McDonald’s does a pretty good job with the presentation and packaging on these. If I’m on the road, it’s not a bad way to go and dare I say a nice occasional treat. Thanks again for the videos, Joe.
If I want McD’s breakfast, I order two scrambled eggs and a sausage patty. No need to tell them to skip the bun. I guess you could ask for a round egg and sausage (or bacon) also.
