Who is Dr. Ergin? Dr. Ahmet Ergin is an endocrinologist with a particular interest and passion for diabetes care. YES! so many of my clients ask me in the first stages of carb cutting when they can go back to eating what they love. Sorry, that is what caused the problem. Some really need to understand that the choice of meds or carbs is very real, but soooo worth it! Bravo!

Another great video. I am Type 1 for over 50 years and switched to keto 13 months ago. My personal experience, and just my experience, is that I have not had a single hypoglycemic event since becoming fat adaptive. I used to have a very high frequency of exercise induced hypoglycemia even with just moderate exercise before making the switch. This is such a change in my life that I no longer call it the keto diet. It is simply the way I eat now.

Type 11 diabetes reversed and under control with the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. Keto is giving me a better life and no diabetic medications. No, not easy but the rewards for me are fantastic. Also trying to eliminate inflammatory foods and itโ€™s helping. I will continue this as a journey not as a diet.

From my experience, I am type 2, my A1C was 7.x. After keto diet for about 6 months, it dropped to 5.6. However, after 2 years, I started eating "normal" again, A1C went back up to 7.x (Doctor, you are correct) within 1 year. I think it might require time for the liver/metabolism to heal before I could eat normal again without insulin resistance - like in my 30s or earlier. Anyway, I started keto again recently, no metformin or insulin shot, my glucose level is between 100-150 (~150 after eating) all day. Freestyle libre sensor is a blessing. I could monitor my blood glucose at any time without pricking my finger. IMO, I do this so that I could lose weight down to the level I could finally exercise, i.e. more than just walking. Without so much weight my body could finally heal and stop the glucose damaging my body/organs, and I could finally run without feeling like I am dying. I treat this eating habit as a lifestyle. Like exercise, if you stop exercise, you gain weight. Same same. This, at least I could enjoy my steak and broccoli.

If I may interject for a moment... eating normal is what got you to 7.x. why would you ever go back to it. I think you need to reframe this in your mind. There is never a going back to whatever you were doing before. It really needs to be a shift in your diet. Maybe a cleaner version. Not the Standard American Diet. Just a thought. Good luck!!

Sorry to get to you 2 years later. There are several factors which lead to varied results. 1.) were you taking in enough salt? 2.) did you supplement for phosphorus which you no longer get from wheat? 3.) did you have vitamin c coming in? 4.) were you staying in ketosis by staying below 30g carbs every day? 5.) did you have anything genetic that would interfere? Fixes 1.) you need 4x as much salt on keto because your kidneys donโ€™t hold sodium as much as with glucose. The typical daily minimum is 1/4 teaspoon. The keto daily minimum is 1 full teaspoon. This would make anyone feel horrible to not have the correct amount of electrolytes. 2.) pink Himalayan salt has phosphorus in it. 3.) lemons and limes 4.) some food has 0 carbs but will trigger insulin and kick you out of ketosis like some sugar-free relish or sodas. Sucralose triggers insulin at 2x the rate and maltodextrin gets you at 3x the rate. 5.) I remember reading about a gene present in .003% of the population which makes it so a carb free diet leads to higher insulin resistance.

This diet only works if you love it. If you hate the diet donโ€™t do this to yourself. Try Rybelsus or one of the other medications that Dr Ergin recommends. Be sure and watch his other videos. I love โค๏ธ this guy.

If you want to lose fat, you shouldn't compromise your health with the keto diet. I recommend getting a personalized diet. I've had great success with the Agoge diet for example.
