This playlist has been so good, even though I've been working with KB for almost a year. Guess my original training wasn't that comprehensive.😁 One suggestion as I've been sharing this list with a few folks, maybe an intro video as the first item in the playlist specifically touching on recommendations for KBs? I know you've got vids already talking about it, but a quick 3 min. vid that covers possible starting weights, equipment recommendations (companies, etc), and a brief "why kbs" could be helpful if this is the first place we send folks to start learning. Regardless, SUCH GOOD CONTENT. Thank you, as always. You've changed my life.

Folks, this is also intro to grappling combat. You learn to make that shift smooth and control the weight without jerking the KB and you will begin to feel the shift from collar to collar, shoulder to shoulder, wait, hip, etc. smoothly so the other feels nothing.

Yep running yours and ate some humble pie with it. Started at 30.8lbs with the adjustable KBs and today (I’ll be doing 3 sets of 4/4 3/3 2/2 1/1). I’m also doing the swing program, Mill and squat, single arm, sandbags and mace. I can do this because I’m not killing my self and for now it feels easy!

Guys, as there has been very helpful exchange here, maybe someone can help me. What do you do once you hit failure in reverse ladders? Do you: a) terminate the set and try again next time? b) move from strict press to push press to still finish the volume? c) decrease volume and start from a bit lower again? Of course any alternatives you see would also be interesting! Curious to hear how others are doing it!

Any ideas on how to run a Heavy/Light workout on a reverse ladder? I'm currently at 5 sets of 5-4-3-2-1 with 25 lbs and looking to move up to 30lbs. This was my retracted question yesterday in chat--I retracted because I put Snatch mistakenly rather than Clean and Press and my question would have been confusing because of that mistake.
@timgerber5563
@timgerber5563 Год назад
I think Mark already answered this one in an old video. If you are currently doing 5x15x25 lbs then this amounts to 1875 lbs of work. Divided by 35 lbs this would mean doing 3x15 to be at a lower total amount of work or doing 5x10 (4/4, 3/3, 2/2, 1/1) with 35lbs which is probably what I would go with to have „more room to grow“ with the heavier weight before hitting a wall. Hope this answers your question.
@timgerber5563
@timgerber5563 Год назад
Sorry, just saw that you were talking about 30 pounds. But essentially the process is the same, but result in 4x15x30=1800.
@Sparrowhawk187
@Sparrowhawk187 Год назад
@Rineal thanks for the comprehensive reply. I gamed it once with 321 butdid too many sets and got sloppy and a little forearm bruising. Weird how a slightly heavier weight handles differently and exposes weakness in form. I need to build up slowly with the 30 and gain those "experience points" Mark talks about.I 'm going to follow your example and start with fewer sets and add complexity to the 25 workout or bump it up to 6-5-3-2-1.
@Sparrowhawk187

Why do you coach the press with the elbow looking in front during the motion and not the press that Pavel teaches (in enter the kettlebell) with the elbow moving to the side?
@MarkWildman
@MarkWildman Год назад
Because I teach the way I teach based on what I see is needed.
@ryusuikarate
@ryusuikarate Год назад
@@MarkWildman That answer can mean everything and nothing. It can mean that you would teach some individuals version A and others version B depending on individual needs and it can also mean that you teach everyone version A because in your experience most people need this more. Still doesn't answer the question why that version is needed more though. There could be any number of reasons from better translation to later progressions to easier structural alignment (harder to mess it up) to just personal preference. That's what I wanted to know.

In video KB 14 Mark teaches external rotation of the shoulder before the press motion upwards, the beginners into to kettlebell overhead press. Here on KB 18 where the level has progressed to the clean and press, he's going straight up in the press. Is that what your question refers to? I e. Are you asking why it progresses away from two step external rotation then press, to a single step movement, now that he's moved onto the complex of clean and press?
@ryusuikarate
@ryusuikarate Год назад
@@hazelmaines2040 It doesn't look too me like Mark is using a lot less rotation in this video compared to kb14. I would consider both presses as pressing straight up because his external rotation in the beginning of the press is at most 35° (a bit hard to gauge because of the camera angle). Pavel Tsatsouline (and I hope I spelled his last name correctly) teaches the press with a 90° externally rotated shoulder. Pavel is pretty much the godfather of modern kettlebell training in the west. So if someone is teaching differently I always ask why. Not because I think that Pavel knows everything but because he is the starting point for many people going into kettlebells. I always taught the 90° version to beginners so I was curious why Mark doesn't do that. I could have posted the question under the earlier video but forgot to do so.
@hazelmaines2040

@@ryusuikarate Thanks for explaining that Jan. I didn't watch the whole enter the kettle bell because, as a women, the "this will make you a stronger man " etc vibe to it, made me prefer to look elsewhere.... turns out I must have missed this as a result. I hadn't done the full 90deg before but can certainly feel the difference. Do your beginners do well in functional range of movement with the full 90deg rotation at the beginning of their training? I've been using clubs for shoulder mobility but maybe could work at this with KB too.
