Our guest interview this week is none other than Kevin Durant and the co-host of The ETCs Podcast, Eddie Gonzalez. This conversation is so awesome and we're thrilled to get to share it with you. Topics include: KD and JJ's prior battles between The Los Angeles Clippers and The Oklahoma City Thunder, learning playoff lessons with The Thunder, Why KD doesn't score 60 points on a more regular basis, how KD started to get comfortable with controlling the game, the struggles of playing on a 'super team', the death of the stretch 4, the non-evolution of college basketball, how he feels about the original James Harden trade to The Houston Rockets, a breakdown of his series between The Milwaukee Bucks and The Brooklyn Nets, his biggest playoff regrets, recovering from his achilles injury, the difference between he and JJ Redick's routine and so much more.

The reason KD is so comfortable here is that he does not get dumb questions commonly being asked by mainstream analysts like Stephen A, Skip and those guys who never played pro ball. They would usually ask “ how do you think this will impact your greatness?”. KD here totally respects JJ because he makes sense.

just listening to dude talk about the game is insane & that last segment where he talked about his injury & post injury and how he had doubt until he could actually prove to himself he could & then how it went on to another test of him is just crazy to listen to

Their talk about how hard scoring 30 used to be just proves guys like d wade were absolutely insane. 30 without 3s and having to drive on a packed defense is just craziness

He’s the best player in the league rn.. I get what Jokic and Embiid bring to the table and even Giannis, but nobody can replicate his efficiency given shot selection. He has put up the monster trip dubs Jokic given that playmaker role due to injuries and easily can score in bunches like Embiid can

@@troystewart3737 not being able to score exactly as KD does doesn’t make him better than them. Giannis can score i. a way that KD can’t, which is dunking over 2-3 defenders routinely while playing DPOY caliber defense on a consistent basis. you’re clearly enamored by his scoring, acting as if players gotta play just like him to be better than him

You have to mention the 95 Rockets when you talk about small ball/stretch 4 offenses. PG: Kenny Smith SG: Clyde Drexler SF: Mario Elie PF: Robert Horry C: Hakeem Olajuwon They didn’t revolutionize it because teams still didn’t move towards that style of play, but they were one of those teams that shot hella 3’s and went “small.”
@nish8399
@nish8399 Год назад
? they averaged 15 3 attempts per game, below league average at the time
@derrionarrington
@derrionarrington Год назад
@@nish8399 You may be referring to the 93-94 Rockets, but that’s a bit confusing as well because neither Drexler or Horry played on that team. I didn’t look up the numbers for that year.

The addition of Eddie throws off the feel of JJ’s tone with other players his shows usually have. It’s minor, but noticeable. I like listening to JJs show because it sounds like two players talking shop. Eddie sounds more like a fan.

Damn this was a great conversation. I think fans of today truly don’t realize how much the game has changed. The notion that guys don’t play defense today is just not true. They are handicapped lol no hand checking.. flagrant fouls today were normal fouls 20 years ago so the physicality is reduced dramatically on top of the fact that the game is more spread out than ever and EVERYONE can shoot.
@loverofhumanity
@loverofhumanity 2 года назад
Yeah the last point is really the biggest difference. 20 yrs ago we hadnt figured out how to shoot yet. Literally every player used to have a different form. Trainers and athletes have all mastered the skill and technical aspects of shooting and kids are learning and developing that skill from 5 yrs old tbh. I see it even in mens leagues I play in. A lot of the younger guys arent as aggressive or drive in the paint as well as the old guys but they all can shoot extremely well. With the older crowd youll see a mixed bag of decent shooters to flat out awful shooters and practically no great shooters because they grew up in a different era where this wasnt really part of our game yet.
