Irit, ive been loving your videos for quite some time now - I'm on of those people who are so, so happy to see you venture out to watercolors and I honestly do a little happy dance every time a video ragarding that part of your creative journey comes out 😃 I'm no expert and I know so little of watercolors, but I can clearly see your skills have grown so much! ❤️ I adore your first pages, your older watercolor play videos, swatching, doodling and your recent work! You found your path, had your playtime, you are learning and growing and I'm so happy you're sharing it all with us ☺️

great journal, Irit! I just love all the colors and it shows that you had fun with it! Color play, warm ups, whatever it's called, none are failures...this is how we learn! I love working on rough paper also. Especially when used with beautiful granulating watercolors. Thanks for sharing, you are always an inspiration!

Irit! I love the color play. No it’s not a masterpiece, it’s the beauty of a captured moment of joy and fun. I love several of those pages. Wish you could print a set of cards. I’d buy them for me and as gifts for family and friends. Not only do they make you happy but others as well! Things that make you feel good are sometimes better than a dang masterpiece anyway. I’m so glad that you are creating color joy instead of writing prescriptions! 😄

I loved seeing the progression of your work. It’s been such a joy watching you fill this journal. I have this large one arriving tomorrow. I’m halfway through the small one that I started at the beginning of the Watercolor Mastery class.

Irit, I have been following your watercolor journey for a long time and it has given me such inspiration. I love your Baby Step pages, especially the first two. (I would frame them) You have allowed me to give myself permission to grow and learn to find my own color palette and my own style. I used to think that if I couldn’t draw and paint perfectly from the start, I had no artistic talent. Now I know that I can simply enjoy the journey and appreciate my improvement along the way. Thank you!

So so happy to read this Jennifer! One of my main goals in my videos and classes is to find the joy and reduce frustration when arting. It is such a therapuetic passtime but unfortunately for some of us can also become stressful and deflating (speaking for experience). Thank you for commenting!

Gosh, that journal (paper and colours) is beautiful! Indeed, some of those pages are worth framing. The overall mood is happy, even soothing, I would say. I think, once again, you have shown that you should practise on the best possible paper you can afford. Since I realised this I have used great paper but only hot pressed smooth paper because of the subject matters of my paintings. However, I am a great fan of Angela Fehr and will look out for this kind of paper in the future and strive to become a lot more loose. So seeing your journal is also very inspiring for me. Thanks! :-)

How is it compared to the jane Davenport one?

This particular Khadi journal has a soft cover, Jane's have a hard cover. The size is different, the paper is more textured. Personally at the moment I enjoy the Khadi one better because of how the watercolors blend and look, but the Jane journal is nice too.

Too bad that Khadi sizes with gelatin. I’ve wanted to go quite large (greater than 9”x12”) in a hand bound sketchbook; I will ask some of the booksmiths on Etsy if someone will make a 12”x12”. I’ve enjoyed your work from the class with Angela Fehr (sp?). Does she have a minimum size requirement for sketchbooks used for the class?

@@apocalypse_frau Thank you! I think the best would be just to make my own (keep it simple, no cover) journals. I'm glad I have so many vegan option for great paper, so silver lining!

We are fortunate to live in a time where many vegan options exist, and we have easier access to everything we need from start to finish, including the ability to share our interests/insights with others. I am very grateful for the global community of artists, artisans, and creatives who teach. :)

Irit, is the paper a cotton rag type paper (like some of the pages in the Dina Wakley journal)? If so, isn’t it hard to do watercolor on or did you gesso?

I think it is cotton, and it feels to the touch similar to the Dina paper, BUT that's where the similarities end. It is heavier and behaves completely different. Dina's paper doesnt allow for the blending that the Khadi paper allows. There's absolutely no need for gesso. I never gesso watercolor paper for painting with watercolors. Hope that helps!

Thank you! That does help, as I love Dina’s journal EXCEPT that white cotton paper. Sounds like this one is easier for blending. I don’t use gesso for watercolor either except for those pages in the Dina journal 😘
