For electric cars yeah no competition...Koenigsegg cars are revolutionizing hybrid petrol car technology ..dinosaur age of petrol will have a new life in the future too
By far the best car review i ever saw!! First of all NO irritating music. Calm informed way of presenting, pleasant voice, filmed in such a way you get a good impression. Bravo!
I sure hope so because I laid my money down and I was informed that I am very close to the final bottom line but kia is still keeping the msrp a secret until April so I am patiently waiting for my new car and I am ready!
Also worth noting that they have just announced that there was a mistake made on their official WLTP range figures. They have reduced it to 282mi (454 km). cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/electric-kia-e-niros-official-range-reduced-following-test-error/162071
*Nice car.* Kia hit the Jackpot with this car. They can use the same factory to produce a hybrid and an electric version of this car. We will all benefit from cleaner air that those cars save us to breathe.
@@_TrueDesire_ thats a bit of a logical fallacy. Obviously every less car that pollutes NOx and SOx and CO2 the better the air is. Its not an all or nothing situation
@@ryanbellyt but there's a witch hunt on the working class people buying bog standard cheaper fossil cars, there is no whip against the other transport vehicles.

Wow Johnny your reviews are so in depth. I really appreciate the research you do before getting behind the wheel. I've learned a lot today watching this, and as a current KIA owner would consider buying the e-Niro in the future.
I really love the designs of Kia and Hyundai at the moment. The Korean car industry has really matured and it's great to see them being competitive with their electric offerings.
I grit my teeth every time I click on a car review, prepared as ever to attempt separation of useful information from its brash packaging. This video was a pleasure to watch. Your delivery is first class. Informative without a hint of self-promotion. Thanks very much, I've subscribed.
I can see this and the Kona overtaking the new Leaf very quickly. They both are really game-changing cars, and unless constricted by some other factor, I would not look at a Leaf having seen these two.
You will have to compare those to the next Leaf refresh to really say but they dont target the same population, the leaf looks so much better for example.
There will be a significant waitinglist on the eNiro, Kona Electric and probably the new Soul Electric. The Leaf wins in availability and slightly more storage than the Kona. I would also think Nissan is a bit ahead in autonomous systems, see the old video from Fully Charged on how aware it was of its surroundings, but we have yet to see if Nissan will use this advantage in their next Leaf e-plus model.
I agree that the Kona and Niro are potentially game changers, but the key issue here is availability. Sadly there is a very long waiting time for the Kona and I suspect the same will apply for the Niro. The Kona is a little smaller than I would have preferred and the Niro looks a better size, but the Kona is an excellent drive and I think the Ioniq, the Kona and Niro leave the leaf in the dust on the really important aspects of drive train efficiency and battery management. On a motorway speed run in cold weather I managed 4.1 miles/KWH and on local driving I get between 5 and 5.6 miles/KWH in the Kona.
davidarf and also the are refusing to bring the Niro to Australia, and either cancelled or postponed the launch of the Kona Ev in Australia. Very sad, very disappointing.
@@FancyaBevMate Australian perspective, Nissan Australia imported under 600 superseded 24 kWh Leafs. Only allowed 12 dealers in the whole country to sell them. Installed no public chargers, not even slow chargers. Didn't advertise it. (A friend got a sales job with them and after a week of product training at head office had never heard of the Leaf) Supplied a charge cord that didn't fit a household socket and then had the cheek to charge double what they sold it for in every other market. Now they're needing new batteries, and people are being charged 38000 (about 15000 pounds) for a replacement.
I love Jonny’s way of testing/presenting cars! Calm and informative - it really makes for a good watch. Thank you guys for the work you put into these videos! Keep them coming! 👍💪😉
Fully Charged = E-TopGear Great show , very well done. & highly entertaining I'm a multiple new car dealership owner . racer & all around auto enthusiast. @@frankfitzpatrick5300 good job... it all counts. Regardless of the past... we all need to work together to change the future. For example... one simple thing we can all do. I'm glad you mentioned the headlights/halogen bulbs Jonny, it seems like a real missed opportunity for a lot of manufacturers to push for LED lighting across their EV range, and maybe persuade other manufacturers to do similar across their regular fuel ranges too. Still baffles me that you could buy a Passat 10+ years ago which had LED brake lights as standard, and yet many brand new cars (even some expensive ones from BMW) still use regular bulbs.
I tested it out last Friday on eCar Expo in Gothenburg. Really a grate experience. I drove it right after i tested the BMW i3 an I would say it felt quite similar. Maybe the BMW was a bit more quiet. I only had it for 10 minutes but this is my favorit "affordable" EV this far. The Kona is a little bit too small and the e-nero is on the borderline to fit our family comfortably. Im changing from my VW Golf to an EV in 2020 so it will be interesting to see what else is out on the market by then. I really enjoy your show and I am considering supporting you as a Patreon.
i can't wait for the e-Nero to come to Canada even though i wont be buying one any time soon as im only 15 but i am currently saving up for a used 2012 Nissan leaf or 2014 spark ev
I endorse your passion. don't let anything stop you from saving. Good EV driving. + You will be able to make some money selling electric back to the grid in Canada at peak demand (Soooon)
i recently got my first taste of ev driving its a Chinese Honda e grom electric motorcycle it only get 20 km of range but getting it was what really got me into ev's
@@JonasOnAutos It pretty much every rider that rides a electric bike falls in love with them. Which surprise me because I always thought of motorcyclists being the most into then noise size of things.
the big push for me to get into ev's was the fact i was going to be paying 300 dollars a month just to have insurance (as a new driver )not including gas so the idea of not only spending $300 a month just for the right to drive a car but also spending a $1.40 a liter on gas seemed insane. i was able to work out that if i got a ford focus ev or first gen chevy volt sure i would be spending upwards of $6000 to $9000 on a car but the lack of maintenance and the fact i wont be paying insane gas prices allows it to even out and when i pass the 3 year mark the car will have paid for itself and will start technically making me money as i wont have taken a big hit on depreciation.
The attention to musicality of matching the clap in the music to the door closing sound at the end there is the kind of editing i appreciate. Grade A content as always lads.
Great review! But why do you use LED backlights but not in the front? That seems just a bit silly. Keep up the good work though! I really enjoy the show!
As always I enjoyd this video. Great sound, great pictures, and Johnny has such a nice voice. I do wonder why you can´t get it with LED headlights in the Uk though. I drive the PHEV Niro myself, and its a great car for both short and long trips. The biggest issue, will probaly be if they can deliver enough cars.
Johnny, I've owned the Leaf and now the Kia Soul EV. The Soul is a pretty good car, but my biggest problem with it is that it needs to be plugged in if you want to turn on climate from the app, whereas the Leaf doesn't need to be plugged in. I would love for the Soul not to have to be plugged in to start climate, since I park in a subway parking garage, and I would like to get that sucker heated or cooled when I'm a couple stops away. I tell my friends that the Leaf treats you like an adult, whilst the Soul EV treats you like a kid. When reviewing new cars, can you please check this feature? In particular, I would like to know if the e-Niro and Kona both need to be plugged in to turn on climate from the app, or not. Not plugged in is good, plugged in is .
It's good that all manufacturers are not targeting the same market. The Koreans are doing functional (if a little bland) mid price EV's with good equipment and range. Audi have a really well specc'd SUV. Jaguar have a AWD hot hatch (It's really not an SUV...) in the I-Pace for people who want performance. People who buy ttaditional SUV's and fast cars don't care too much about efficiency and I don't think they are going to start now just because the propulsion system has changed. I have personally placed an order for an I-Pace because for me to leave turbo'd cars, I need an EV that excities me, and the Jag does that in spades. There is a market for all kinds of different EV's. Let's enjoy them, whatever you choose!
While the iPace may not be what everyone thinks of as an SUV, it is at least 4WD. There are few 4WD options in the EV market, and for this of us who want/need the security of 4WD, the iPace is definitely a great car. For me, its the nicest EV on the market, the only downside is the lack of a SuperCharger type network that is reliable and available.
Jonny, you’re bringing a level of journalism to the EV forum that’s sadly lacking in the mainstream media. You talk sense and explain tech that we can all understand. Keep doing what you’re doing. Kind regards.
No they are not because now we have a shortage in battery cells and now the battery manufacturers can dictate the price....manufacturers aren't really keen on selling EVs anyway. If you look in which states they sell those cars in the US ( forced by law ) you see what i mean.
@@dot7107 If some US states didn't have the ZEV program running they would be selling even more ICEs because they aren't required to sell EVs. And yes....gas is too cheap.
@@Enforcer_WJDE several years back, I read an article which talked about the subsidies the US gov't gives to petroleum producers. One statistic stuck in my head: if paying for the environmental impact of burning gasoline was added to the price, the true price of a gallon of gas would increase by almost $4.00. Something else to consider is that as we shift away from ICE to EV, we need to set up different funding mechanisms to maintain roads. The gas tax is insufficient already, and it's going to get worse.
@@Dirtyboxer1 Maintenance is a problem governments have to face one day. I live in Germany. Not even half the vehicle and fuel taxes are used for road maintenance and EVs are exempt from taxes for a 10 years which i find unfair because they also use up the road. I would have it that every citizen has to pay a road tax because everyone uses the roads.
Excellent episode, informed, well reasoned, gives information on what to look for and some comparison observations, for when I go out and hunt up my EV shortly; just as soon as Australia gets with the program and brings stock here.!!!!! More of these types of episode please.
Salil Sawarim no, you missed the point. I was pointing out that someone who complained of errors in the video, himself made an error by mis spelling in his comment. “Matter” has 2 “t” s. There was no criticism by me of the video ( which is excellent). Ok?
Fully Charged is the best car show I've ever watched. Something about the calm enjoyment really speaks to me. 10/10 bar none Keep up the OUTSTANDING work guys!
I drove one of these Niro EVs yesterday for about an hour and the lasting impression is one of quality, comfort, smoothness and silence. I have driven the Leaf, Zoe and Ionic and can honestly say that the Niro is better than them all, by a significant margin. Good size vehicle - not at all small and mean; quality cabin with driver controls and technology; a real pleasure to drive. I have driven many luxury cars in my life and the Niro EV beats them all, without a shadow of doubt. I drove the top of the range big battery car, it costs 46,000€ here in France minus 6000€ gov. grant minus 2500 scrappage diesel car scheme so would cost me net approx 37,000€ or roughly £32,000. Need to do my sums..............................
Amazing car for the price, on a slightly different note was thinking, would good to see a episode were they review a electric car after a 100,000 miles to see what typical maintenance was required compared to a petrol or diesel car and what the savings are!
Good luck actually buying. The Hyundai Kona sister car is on months and months of backorder. I'm not Tesla fanboy, but Tesla's vertically integrated battery factory is going to be a difference-maker between Tesla and the rest of the industry. Kia/Hyundai have built a nice car, but they will never be able to deliver enough batteries to sell more than a handful of them.
SK Group just invested 1.67 Bil into a battery production. Hopefully they will be helping Hyuandai Group ramp up production. Most notably SK Hynix is a legend at gigantic scale of NAND & DDR production. Cells should be easier for them.
Spot on report Johnny, very very well made and vastly underrated. I truly believe your channel will grow in the future because of the Quality! Keep up the good work! Thumbs up from the Netherlands😄
@SDD525 do they share the same chassis? Or what do you base those numbers on? Phev's and EV's are for some reason very differently build at the back bumper area, therefore only the Tesla x and Renault Kangoo ze (that I know of) are approved for towing. The Riviera will be awesome when it goes into production, but I don't need that kind of towing capacity. 1,5/2 tons is more than adequate for my needs and I would guess also most people in the EU.
@@TheLateBrakeShow No, affordable would be an EV this size, as they all appear to be, the same sort of price as a Focus, the Zoe being the same price range as the Clio, without the crazy battery hire. Affordable is not £30k+ for your average UK household, even on 'payments'.
Great work Johnny, another great review. When I look at the £32k is not “affordable” comments, I think we have to be objective, compared with other full EVs with a similar range, Tesla / jag, this less than half the price! The model 3 is called affordable and that is not going to be cheaper than 40k!
Comparing it with other cars that I can't afford does not make it affordable. £32k is 1/3 more than I would ever pay for a car and near 2x what my current diesel car cost. I can buy a hell of a lot of diesel for £16k !
There are going to be some mixed opinions on this and the Kona because they are both better than the other in different ways. Good looking car, very thorough review, barring the Amp Hour mistake :P Great Job FC!!
Loved the show, but just an FYI. You can have independent suspension using torsion bars as springs. Toyota did this on some of their vehicles for years.
You heard about Australian release and pricing? I love my Ford Econetic becaise of how fuel efficient it is but this or the Kona could very well end up replacing it
Was initially looking to upgrade to Model 3 , but after this , my mind's made up to order this one when it's available in the UK . Once again Jonny great video .
I think you mean torsion beam, not torsion bar. Think Nissan LEAF rear suspension (torsion beam non independent rear suspension) versus VW beetle (torsion bar independent rear suspension).
Just like my mates Porsche 944 he raced at Snetterton all those years ago for 5th gear. I guess Johnny is jet lagged and just forgot, know that feeling travelling for work.
Matthew Mason it’s actually perfect for family if you don’t want suv or van and you live in US were you don’t have a lot of caravans. And it’s electric.
@@matthewmason8982 As much as I would love to run around in a Porsche 911 Carrera S4 it's not affordable and certainly not practical. Just blissfully selfish and satisfying.
i know you misspoke. but please promise never to say amp-hour again. it reminds me how dishonest bmw is, telling their customers the i3 has 60Ah instead of 22kWh which it is. sounds more but Ah is meaningless. can't even convert it to a unit of energy eg kWh without specifying voltage.
A probable benefit of having the Halogen headlight is that driving through heavy falling snow like I did last weekend the snow melts (a bit...) on the headlights when turned on... Not having an ICE engine to warm up the front of the car can be a trouble... Not perfect, but I suspect LED lamps would not heat up much and that the headlights would be covered in snow and ice a lot sooner... Keep up the good work. Marty from COLD Quebec Canada.
Great review Joney. Regarding the light in the charge port. The Hyundai Ioniq has the very same type of light you demonstrated in this review. Well done. Regards Séamus
Jonny, RockStar as always. E-Niro is a real game changing car. At 6'7" I fit very well in the eNiro. I don't fit in the Kona. Going to be a toss up between a 2020 Soul 64KwH or a E-Niro 64 kwh when my lease comes up in 2020.
I think those headlights were halogen because they create a little heat and that in turn will melt of ice and snow in colder climates. LED"s wont do that. Very thought full actually. Nice car. I like it.
Good review thanks, already got the plugin niro which is a fantastic car. Will definitely be getting one of these when it’s available. The good thing about these cars is the fact that with the warranty it means plugins and full EVs of good quality will be getting into the second hand market.
The only issue with those legacy manufacturers is that they are awful at software and it's not going to get updated/improved. When if you spend a bit more and get a Tesla, your car will be better 2-5 years after you bought it than the day you go it out the store.
There will be a limit to that. You only have to look at how phones lose support after a while because it's costly and they don't have the performance that the new features need.
In exchange for Tesla monitoring everything you do, being able to turn off your car if you fix it yourself, disable charging and generally nanny you even worse than Apple do. Not everyone wants that - they want to actually own their stuff, not be tracked everywhere, and generally be left alone after purchase. That's certainly what I want, so there is no way I'm buying a Tesla (except a dead one to use the batteries out of for some other project). Choose your poison carefully :-)
We have a '17 Kia Soul EV+ and love it. A couple of issues about charging. The dash mounted charging lights do us no good here in a hot climate (Arizona, USA), as we have a windshield shade in place when parked which blocks the view of the dash mounted charge lights. Secondly, the front mounted charge port is very convenient, but is also vulnerable. A slight fender bender on the front and the car can become un-chargeable - meaning un-drivable.
I'd visited my dealer and put in a preemptive deposit to get my order in early.. now I'm disappointed in the headlamps, no ventilated seats either, no remote app (to precondition car on demand and check charging status). No towing. The Kona Premium SE is a better equipped car, shame Kia cheaped out. Oh, great review, thanks Jonny. Excellent quality as ever!
I decided to cancel my order.. too much uncertainty about the features - Kia have been inconsistent in their announcements. Also, there's only one model, I wanted some higher spec features like the Kona. And Kia are unable to tell anyone whether the "telematics" module (for a smartphone app) will be retrofittable on this launch model. In France, they have a much better choice of colours and trim. Meanwhile there are rumours with some substance about an update coming in April-ish with a new infotainment, towing option in Norway and possible telematics module.
If you Google images of the eNiro all the images show a different headlight setup. This one Johnny was driving may have been a pre-production non LED version. Hopefully it does have LED headlights in the production model.
Excellent and very informative review. You should be on Top Gear, a very calming voice and very professionally presented. I’m on holiday in Boa Vista laying on my lounger and just came across your review 👍
I would love an EV that looks like the future instead of the same as the obsolete internal combustion engine cars. When is an EV as futuristic as the Citroen DS and CX were in their day going to arrive?
My Renault Zoe have 400 km NEDC range and 300 km real range. I never afraid of running out of electricity. I already drove from Germany to France and to Milan in Italy über the alps mountains. No problem at all...
The total package of this car will make it very desirable in the family small SUV market. The rear space is where it delivers together with the generous range. Also, these cars in traffic are very economical as they are not using gas with dead miles and don't have the stop-start annoyance.
I have owned the Hybrid for nearly a year, I love it. It will be a long time before I could use the all electric where I live in Western Canada as the infrastructure is way behind Europe.
Hi thanks for this awesome video, very well presented. An all rounder, exciting and informative. Well done :) and thank you. Are you able to find out if Australia will get a new model Kia Rondo/Carens? Or if Australia will get the pro ceed wagon? Or a petrol turbo Sorento. Many thanks
I cannot wait to test drive this when it is available in Perth. I've already fallen in love with it and I want this to be my first foray into EV's.... My dream for a long time has been to own a Tesla, but given the pricing in OZ, it's a pipedream at best... I've been a Kia fan and owner from as far back as the first iteration of the Rio and have had nothing but Kia's since, with my current being a 2015 Optima Platinum....love the car, love the warranty...only thing more I could want is it being electric....and now I might get my wish sooner than I thought possible!
I think one good reason to keep with halogen headlights (at least in colder climates) is the heat they produce compared to LED's. In near-zero conditions the heat can help keep the ice off the headlights without the need for a separate headlight-heating element. That is to say, it can be beneficial to have simplicity where possible.
Another good Fully Charged review and a very realistic appraisal of the car. I'd agree with the review too - this is something of a 'game changer' car.
Available in April in the UK? Interesting. When I put my deposit down in September here in Canada, I was told to expect my Niro EV in late February 2019. After seeing TeslaBjorn's and now your review, I'm so happy I opted for this over the Leaf or Bolt.
Loved the review. Just one correction (apart from kWh already mentioned), is that the Hyundai Kona Electric has a 5 year vehicle warranty and not 3 as stated in your video.
This is the form that EV car reviews should take, in my opinion. Robert is an entertaining presenter but doesn't seem to know nearly as much about cars as Jonny, so I'm pleased to see the latter take the lead on these reviews. With Jonny fronting the EV side of things and Robert tackling other subjects, we should get a nice mix of styles. One thing, if I may... You might consider finding someone who knows the lingo to preview these videos in an attempt to catch the rather obvious errors (example: kWh vs Amp hours). It's likely that some errors might still sneak through, but at least some will be caught, perhaps blunting the attack of the internet trolls. Finally, and this goes to KIA... why the heck wouldn't you make LED headlights (and, in fact, all lights) the standard, and perhaps only choice?
Actually I wish people would stop gratuitously flying around the world just to do things like review cars. This is 5 tonnes of emissions for Jonny plus camerman. Is that worth it for one youtube video? People really do not understand the scale of the emissions problem if they still think this makes sense.
