The funny part about chat GPT is that it literally could have taken that information from Simon's own videos, where he constantly refers to such a 55/45 split, and then him asking the question wouldn't matter,as the answer it could have taken would just be his own, possibly incorrect answer.

I always scoff at those people that commit crimes for a few thousand bucks. Even if you get bribed with a six-figure number of it or someone is offering you one million, it usually is not worth the risk or the moral implications. You will not get far with it. It will not be enough to build a new life in a new country off the grid and last until you are old an feeble. But 360 million....that's a number that WILL get you anywhere and gives you a luxurious lifestyle until you are 110 years old. And what he did for it was not even a crime. It does not matter how good of a person you are and how well off you are. THAT will make you reconsider. That is more money than a lot of small countries GDP. It's more than half of the GDP of Dominica. I have been there. It's great, very laid back and people speak English and stuff. Even if you pay 50% as tax to settle there, you would just boost their GDP by app. 25%. AND still have way too much money to spend. So, yeah, I would not hold it against Simon if he would just take such a deal.
Agreed, some pretty big (as in 3 to 10 million subs) channels I watch have been simping for a sports betting agency sponsor of late and I find it disappointing to say the least.
But Simon doesn't seem to understand that they were wildly overpaying him so that he could lose millions on their website without caring. They probably paid him by the stream, and he would lose most of that each time while playing.
@@JaydragonM Yeah. Saying he "made" or even "received" that money is wildly inaccurate. Like, he used it, but it was never his money, and if he didn't use it, it's not like he would've expected to keep it. It's like if you make coffees at a cafe. If you didn't serve them to people, you don't get to keep it yourself. It's still the business's money.
@@Vaeldarg Nah, cause It'd be dollars worth of casino credits, not actual currency. He could *maybe* try sell those to someone for pennies on the dollar, but even then, the credits would probably be deleted from whoever brought them hahaha
The best part of the whole Kick/Twitch thing is that Kick uses Amazon's Interactive Video Service as their back-end, so they are paying Amazon to run their competitor to Twitch. Considering Twitch loses money, that means Amazon is making more money from Kick than they do from Twitch.
@@psycofire93and if Kick ever became a serious threat to Twitch they'd find their AWS contracts suddenly terminated. Amazon is prone to do that with organisations that are potential "problems" for them in any way, from economic to ideological.
@@jwentingIt's called a contract, AWS is a MASSIVE platform that makes Amazon a ludicrous amount of money. 10:28 I used to work at casinos in the cage department, and no habitual gamblers do not get upset when they lose. I don't really understand the moral objection to gambling, sure it's associated with criminal activity and other vices, but I think gambling itself is morally fine, the issue is in some of the commonly associated practices. It's like how GMO aren't bad but Monsanto is a huge problem, or killing someone isn't inherently wrong it's just that most circumstances around killing someone cause the act to be wrong. Most people would agree that killing another in legitimate self defense is morally acceptable but killing a random grifter for fun is less so. I guess my point is don't decry gambling, decry the targeting of children. I also think that there are certain people who are naturally prone to addictive behavior and for most it doesn't really matter what the behavior is, if they can't gamble they'll do drugs if not drugs then alcohol if not alcohol then violence or sex etc. I personally view myself as one of these people although luckily my addiction is mostly reading but I do have to actively avoid gambling especially loot boxes and I've fallen into low level alcohol addiction several times which i thankfully have recovered from before things went too far (mostly just drained my bank account and left kw more tired than normal).
@@omgandwtf1there's nothing wrong with gambling, if you want to do it that's fine. The problem is advertising it on a platform that's mostly full of kids
@@omgandwtf1Gambling is fine if it's regulated. If it's unregulated and marketed to kids and addicts (addicts have a legal right to self exclude that companies must honour) then that's both a legal and moral problem
@JPGotrokkits I personally think that things Inherently part of human nature are automatically morally objectionable. As far as greed goes, in the right circumstances it can have a positive impact, it's arguable that much of our innovation is driven by greed, people want to create something in order to become famous or wealthy, sure that isn't everyone but it certainly not a small proportion. As far as addiction goes, do you object to everything that's addictive? Sugar, caffeine, sex, video games, food, really anything that can cause an endorphin rush can be addictive. Granted some things are more effective than others but there's a reason McDonald's hamburgers contain sugar as do most things on the menu at fast food restaurants by my understanding, yet you don't hear any big pushes to ban sugar. Rather than object to gambling, why not advocate for responsible gambling? In moderation gambling like most addictive things doesn't have any negative side effects.
@--enyo-- Yeah you can pay to be a certified legend on brainblaze. I'm pretty sure there is a high conservative depopulation of watchers on brain blaze. If you're dumb enough to vote for Trump. Well you're dumb enough to pay to be a certified legend
your writer has that one wrong, Twitch never broadly offered better than 50-50, very, VERY few partners were offered the 70-30 split (without it being known publicly that it was even offered...) then twitch removed that.
Kick has a similar issue facing crypto… the reason people want it is the very reason why it will never work. People want to stream whatever they want, full stop… but copyright is a thing. Either kick will morph itself into a clone of twitch and abide by the applicable rules…or they’ll be sued to oblivion. There’s not really much more to it than that IMO 😊
it seems to be getting away with this stuff mostly due to two facts one the company behind kick seems to be a private business aka the guys that run it own it meaning they don't have to answer to share holders and second is for now they seem to have money to spare meaning they can settle/pay off anyone who could sue that is a threat aka those with money and a legit claim like the NFL. If this was a publicly traded company those settlements/pay offs wouldn't be so easy as i doubt many share holders would be impressed with that amount of money being wasted for a project that part advertisement part vanity project. Kick will probably only change when 1 of 4 scenarios happen, 1 the parent company tries to go public, 2 they piss someone off they can't pay off, 3 it lost leader conversion rate of viewers to gamblers just tanks making the business beyond kick lose money, and 4 something happens on kick that gets big governments pissed enough to do something
Not to mention other local regulations. It doesn't matter where they're based, if they do business in the UK (that includes if they pay streamers who are based in the UK) then they must abide by UK gambling laws, which are very strict and only get stricter. A platform with limited moderation is very unlikely to work from a compliance standpoint. And gambling commission fines are per offence. So if 100 people were impacted by an inappropriate gambling sponsorship, for example, that's 100 individual fines. It stacks up very quickly. This is why getting into gambling as a business you gotta be squeaky clean, or have an endless supply of money.
@@Stettafire Oh absolutely; Copyright is just one of the many issues they need to sort out before its too late for them (if its not already), but like you said, gambling is another major one thats going to bite them inevitably.

There's also a Kick streamer in prison in Japan right now thanks to him streaming himself walking around Japan being a public nuisance for so long Japanese police waited for him to do something illegal & as soon as he did(trespassing) they basically threw the book at him & he is facing like 2 years in prison i believe. Also, to be fair to Kick, it is becoming a new home for the smaller non controversial game streamers that Facebook has basically left hanging by letting Facebook streaming become a horrible experience for the viewer
@@orangegalen exactly! Get rid of the degenerates so all the normal people that just wanna stream Warzone & what not can do so without feeling like they have a stigma just for streaming on a certain platform
@@twiztid_gamer Good luck with that. The "certain platform" is actively encouraging the behavior. What kind of people did they think streaming gambling to children was going to attract?
I have to imagine that every streamer who has live streamed themselves paying for sex has gotten in some legal trouble right? It's my understanding that prostitution is at best legally gray but otherwise illegal in most countries. Surely someone watching it would forward a copy to the local authorities?
@@omgandwtf1 lol I mean unless the escort was underage, the streamer forced himself on her, acts of serious violence were committed, the local cops already had some sort of issue w/ said streamer, or it was a streamer living in a pretty small town where one of the wealthiest & most well connected families in their town had seen it and personally called the chief of police or something, cops aren't gonna give a fuck about some dude fuckin a hooker. And i'm sure SOMEONE did send a copy of one of these incidents to the cops but it's gonna be pretty rare on account of the viewers on that platform being almost exclusively millennials & gen z, and I mean are these streamers a bunch of creepy bitch made losers for doing the things mentioned in the video? Yeah of course. Does that mean that I would feel the need to be almost equally bitch-made by taking the time out of my day to send it to 12? Hell tf nooo 🤣🤣 I mean it's not like these losers were filming themselves beating up children or gangraping some woman or abusing animals or anything to do with sexual or physical violence. Now the one perv who did get kicked off of Kick for trying to get the underage girl to send him naked pics, if he hadn't been kicked off of Kick then yeah i'd definitely say that situation warrants someone getting a pass to call the cops but that's the only situation that was on that level. You wouldn't call the cops bcz one of your homies decided to go trick w/ some bitch, just like you wouldn't call the cops if one of the homies sparked up a blunt or railed an addy while on facetime w/ you. Now is it probably illegal depending on where you live but who gives a shit, I mean jaywalking is technically illegal. There's a ton of laws that don't make any damn sense & as much as I was grossed out by these fckn losers that Simon told us about, I would be equally grossed out to find out someone was snitchin on said losers just bcz they were incorporating some random sex stuff w/ hookers and/or doing some sort of not super hard substance into their live streams. Ppl got WAYYY too much time on their hands if they're out there filing police reports and shit just bcz someone chose to either put something in their body or put some part of their body in someone else lol like there's literally active shooters out there every day, there's murder everyday, there's ppl being raped everyday, children being abused everyday and the majority of that shit isn't even getting solved by the police and yet someone thinks the cops should be focusing on some asshole paying for pussy on the internet?!? Like priorities much? Cops should really never be the answer anyways. Not unless someone is out being a serial killer, a rapist, abusing a child in any way, hurting animals, or like something on that level & even then it's really only necessary to contact the "authorities" bcz of the fact that we're not allowed to take out the trash ourselves. This is on Kick. It is the person who owns the site and the people running it who should be taking this content down and kicking off the streamers, talking about calling the cops is the most overzealous shit i've heard in a minute.
I loved this right from the "the Internet is crazy" start. I'm an Internet grandad. Loved it from the mid 90s when I was in my 20s. Watched it develop the whole time as I'm a PC tech. I developed, too. From Windows to Unix and Linux. Mac is same shit as W. Only Linux can open your mind. What Internet is now, is a capitalist utopia. Everybody is trying to make a buck everywhere and become an Internet celebrity. Complete opposite to what the Internet was like in the 90s and early 00s. We were just having fun and enjoying trans-continental communication for much less money. It was really fun while it lasted.

I'm half wondering if big social media companies don't go out of their way to "suggest" the people they ban go to newer competitors then point journalists at them before they can get banned off the new platforms
I originally made a joke about that but had to cut it for time. Short answer is I have no fucking idea, because the terms and FAQ don't actually address this question. The policy very much seems like it was designed in good faith though, so I'd assume they still do. It may even be rolling 30 day periods rather than actual months, it's not super clear.
Not anyone can get paid hourly to stream on Kick. It's an invite-only program from hand-picked streamers over various categories. The minimum number of followers is 10, but can be as high as 10,000. It's a minimum $16. The streamer can take days off but must maintain the average of 120hrs in a 30-day period. Also, must use webcam (which I am generally not a fan of with streamers since I can see more screen without looking at a dude's face sitting at a PC). Not sure if animated avatars count or not. TL;DR you can't just jump in and start getting paid. However, there is the 95/5 split and it's easier to become an affiliate account. That's likely just a market capture scheme. If they do capture a large market, expect that to get nerfed considerably (or Kick fails miserably, one of the two).
Ah, Kick.... Kevin should've mentioned a certain Kick streamer who is currently in his 4th month within the Japanese detention system (awaiting trial) for violating multiple Japanese laws. The guy in question is a vile waste of oxygen and despite the fact that he's broken multiple laws, behaved in a racist manner continuously, Kick found his content to be okay.
i dont like Twitch bc of the adds and buggy sht all around it RU-vid and Facebook streaming doing much better then ppl think . those viewr numbers are crazy . Kick and Rumble doing also good .
From what I know, most of the big gambling streamers were making money off their viewers using referal codes. Then every time viewers put more money into the site, the streamer got a kickback. So profiting off their audience gambling..
Simon, can you go a CasCrim on the Christchurch Mosque Shootings? There’s an inquiry going on right now, but would like to have one of your fine writers to tackle it.
360 million is a bit of a red harring. After 16 months of forced gambling you’ll be so addicted that most of it will end up gambled away in the long run.
The huge change in revenue split at Twitch has lead to a lot of partnered full-time streamers having to leave streaming or going back to being part-time. Most of the current full-time streamers on Twitch now rely on other income sources like Patreon subscriptions to stay afloat financially.
Dam if they had a bit better decision making they could easily had a multi million platform with kik I nean ya obviously the lack of moderation is a issue when theres victims but if they had been a bit smarter about it its 18+ site I'd say the responsibility is on parents to not let kids on 18+ websites or then how can you not blame every #orn site just as much if not more cuz im guessing most have some illegal material??
Any alternative to RU-vid is going to be populated by the people who are most upset with RU-vid. That is going to involve all the political channels and then move onto the smaller education channels.
For someone as deeply involved in the internet as Simon is, it's funny how innocent he is to the more degenerate side of things he is. I'm suprised they didn't cover the guy that got arrested in Japan after harrassing half the country.
Just keep in mind, kick is owned by the same person that owns stake. The reason they can afford these outrageous payments is because kick is literally just an advertising service for stake. In the end when they want kick to also run a surplus, theyll claw back the hourly wage, stop all new contracts, bring the revenue split down to industry standard, and then bomb the site with ads. There is no reality in which someone is willing to dump hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars every year into a dite they NEVER plan to make profitable. I mean.. hed literally make and retain more money by doing LESS work. It makes no sense on any level for these perks to exist.
