Kicker's got a great way to get some bass into your ride, even if you don't have room for a traditional sub box. This new little wedge is loaded with a 6" active subwoofer and a 6" passive radiator, and when you power it with 150 watts of continuous power it'll crank out bass that belies its small footprint.
Crutchfield, America's trusted electronics specialist since 1974, has award-winning customer service, free lifetime tech support, and free shipping on most orders. Shop for all your audio and video needs at Crutchfield.com and sign up for the catalog and email newsletter at www.crutchfield...

passive radiators are usually larger than the driver so the tuning frequency can be fairly deep. this passive radiator is quite a bit smaller than the driver when you compare the cone area, to keep the packaging small. passive radiators are tuned by how much they weigh much like a port is tuned by its length, so i'd wager this box is tuned rather high, maybe 45-50Hz.
@firebirdude2
@firebirdude2 7 лет назад
The weight of the passive on this one is very heavy. It's tuned lower than that for sure. However, I would say it needs more than 150W to shine.

@lunchie80

Passive radiators have been around for decades. They were invented in 1935 and used by JBL first. Most passive radiators are fairly linear seeing as they just use their suspension (no voice coil or magnet etc) Earthquake are no better than any other passive radiator manufacturer and they are used everywhere even in cheap Bluetooth speakers. They are basically a fancy bass reflex port.

I have this box in my 2014 Focus ST. I replaced the stock 8" Sony one with it, and it is being driven by a small Kicker DXA250.1, which is being fed signal from the stock subwoofer channel from the stock Sony Amp into an Audiocontrol LC2i (which eliminates the need to open up the dash for signal wire splicing). It plays louder, hits harder, and digs deep for such a small driver and small cabinet. It is physically smaller and lighter than the OEM box. I thought of buying the 8" version, but the 6.75" one is perfect for small vehicles. It sounds like a single 10", and that is plenty for me. Only negative...no grille covers available for this size of drivers.

Jacques Sahyoun Unfortunately, I don't think Kicker has seperate Passive radiator membranes. You have to have a woofer for them to work. The radiator moves because of the pressure from the moving the air around. A passive radiator is pretty much a sealed box mixed with a ported box.

does an amp with regular speaker inputs add to the radio watts???? say car radio is 20 watt rms and amp is 100 watt rms will it be putting out 120 watt???
@crutchfield
@crutchfield 7 лет назад
In that scenario the amplifier built-in to your head unit would essentially be bypassed in favor of the new amp--so you'd be producing 100 watts RMS from the amp only. Hope that helps! --Crutchfield

Hi, So the passive radiator is like cap on woofer exhaust that we have in enclosure and it just moves with the air inside the box to capture more base in closer distance if not wanting to capture the base acoustically?
@casey360360
@casey360360 3 года назад
No. So the way a port works is the air mass contained inside of the port volume acts as another subwoofer. The woofer moves this air mass back and forth just like the cone. The more port area you have, the larger the sound of the system up to the point of unloading which also gets higher in frequency with more port area. The passive radiator works in the same manner only you also still have the spring action on the subwoofer cone that you get from a sealed enclosure. It's the best of both worlds, the draw back is it is neither as loud as a ported enclosure nor is the response as flat a sealed.

Measuring your exact location and comparing to the dimensions listed on the Kicker 48TCWRT102 in the link below is always the best move. Based on the information we have in our Vehicle Guide for fitment the Kicker box is too large, there is very little space behind the rear seats. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_20648TT102/Kicker-48TCWRT102.html

Wouldn't the radiator and subwoofer be out of phase?
@408SPLKINGS
@408SPLKINGS 4 года назад
Doesn't matter as long as the active subwoofer is wired in the correct phase....a passive radiator ( aka ) non power baffle is just there to move air pressure creating sound pressure....it requires you to use less wattage for the subwoofer to create more sound = efficiency

Passive truly means non-resistance.....does not affect the sound at all, tho it may wobble out of shape thus look bad
@NATAWS9
@NATAWS9 6 лет назад
The passive radiator is actually a phase inverter at tuning frequency, so it amplifies the bass at that frequency. It gets out of phase when you go deeper, which causes an extremely steep drop below the tuning frequency.

What's the difference of this sub to a underseat sub?
@crutchfield
@crutchfield 4 года назад
This one isn't necessarily excluded from fitting under a seat as it can fit some seats with more space under them. Also, this is not powered so it will need an amp and can handle a little bit more power than the typical underseat subwoofer. I recommend contacting an advisor to discuss your vehicle and goals for the bass to get a personal recommendation one that will meet your needs. I have the 2ohm model, and it is being driven by a Kicker DXA250.1 Monoblock (which is actually way more powerful than the 150 watts RMS the sub was designed for). I have the gain on the amp set to about 10 O'-Clock, bass boost OFF, the bass set to -2 on my stock head unit, mids set to -1, treble set to plus 2. Bass knob for the amp is set at about 1 O'-Clock, and this little sub is loud. It is in a 2014 Ford Focus ST, and it sounds like a single 10". The bass does not escape the cabin of the vehicle like big subs do, which is another added bonus. I get decent SPL, with great SQ and fast response because the driver is so small, In-cabin.
