I really wanted to show more detail, but with others helping it would have been difficult to show everything. I plan on assembling the swing set portion in the next couple of weeks, so I should be doing an update video on the anchoring and final touches on this set. I assembled this over a 4 day period, spending about 3-4 hours each day working on it. Yes, I'm sure others could assemble it faster, but I was on vacation and tried to take my time to do it correctly.
Tools Recommended:
Cordless Drill
3/16" drill bit to pre-drill the holes ( I used a 2nd Cordless Drill for this - less swapping)
#2 Square Bit (Included in the kit)
3/16" Hex Bit (Didn't see in kit)
#3 Phillips Head for faster assembly of tube slide
Hammer - To pound in the T-Nuts
1/2" wrench and 1/2" socket/ratchet for a few bolts
Tape Measure
Box cutter or Scissors to open things

I have built one of these play sets. Do yourself a favor. Follow what the instructions say and inventory all the parts to make sure everything is present. The instructions have a complete listing of all parts with dimensions and line drawings. Then lay out all wooden parts in part number order. If one follows the building instructions, one will find the play set is assembled almost exactly in part number order. Not completely, but very close. A couple hours invested in inventory and organization will pay dividends in lack of frustration later. Having two drill drivers will save time during assembly when drilling a pilot hole and then driving a screw. That saves a lot of bit changing. Using wood clamps made assembly of some components easier and more precise. I commend DoItMyselfGarage for pointing out the part number discrepancy on the bridge angle brackets. That saved me a lot of head scratching. The tube slide is one of the most time consuming assembly tasks.

i'm at the tail end of putting this together. it definitely is a lot of work. i also had to prep my backyard to work on it as well and unfortunately i'm finishing it off during the middle of summer. but it's almost done so i'm really happy to see it come along. i would recommend making sure it's level before beginning but it looks pretty good where he has it.

Yeah, I wish I had leveled my area just a bit more. It is holding up fine so far, but having it as level as possible is the best approach.

Thank you for your help. I just finished installing this playset, and it took me 15 hours to complete. A tip I would give to anyone installing this is to keep all the parts (wood) in numeric ascending order. Also, take out all the boxes with screws and group them by their respective letters (S, PB, LW, WB, G, etc.). It will be much quicker to find them that way instead of having them in the box.

This video motivated me to build our play set, we bought the same one from Costco last week and was also on sale. We managed to finish roughly half the project in one day with 1 adult male and 3 female assistants, though it took a whole day to prepare by relabeling the parts and laying it all in order. One tip from my experience is to wd40 the bolts, it’ll make it easier to drive it in. Also if your bolts strip from your impact driver, use a vise grip and unscrew it out. Worked out pretty well for us so far. Hopefully will complete the rest of the project tomorrow.

Glad you got so much done! The organizing and labeling is a huge help. I know they need to pack it to save space, but better markings and grouping of parts would help many people. I'm still procrastinating on the swing set and fireman's pole...lol

@@DoItMyselfGarage finished the swing set in 1.5 hours with the help of my sister. miscellaneous tasks (fireman pole, handle bars, kitchen) only took 30 min or so. hammering in the stake for the pole took the bulk of that time. wasnt too bad. procrastinating on the tube slide. putting the parts together is frustrating because the plastic warped a little. will try to get the entire thing completed in my next go at it.

My mom got our son the swing n slide ws8354 last year and we are finally getting around to building it and man what a task.. it has 2 slides. Monkey bars. 2 platforms and swings ohh and also a roof. The hardware kit boasts 125 screws at 2 1/2" screws for example aside from the 3" and other multiple sized screws and nuts and bolts.. We did day one on it and it's literally build board by board, I was foolish to think they parts came in assembled panels. It's easentially like building a small cabin board by board but you know what I have my power tools etc and i had gotten my gf a 12v drill so we are both giving them a good workout. Day 1 in and we found we were missing a bolt so I had to go to my work (Lowes) to grab more hardware. I hate the fact that with the multiple boxes of wood we have for example the 2 boxes labled tower that we had to go into the "monkey bars" box to find the next piece we needed.. I am into rough woodworking etc and do smaller projects so my mentality is finishing a project in a day or perhaps 2 to finish. This build is gona be a marathon and i have accepted it, I am definitely feeling your pain but you know I need to stop looking at it as a chore i have to finish ASAP but yah. I have been telling my gf that I wanted to build a new woodworking project and while this isn't what i had in mind she is right. I need to get into my zen mode and enjoy the process, its Fall, the weather isn't too hot or cold and it's outdoors. So the caveat with my build comes in the fact that my backyard has a drastic slope downhill and also the other way so once it's built I have to find out how to level the whole thing out. At least your foundation looks pretty level (vs mine) At the end of the day the best payment is watching the kids see it for the 1st time. My son is 6 and on the jobsite with us so I am letting him drive screws and hammer some of the things that need hammered. He is chomping at the bit like he isn't going to get to use a drill or hammer and mom and I assured him there is still plenty of work ahead. Take care. Cheers
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage Год назад
Yeah, it seemed overwhelming at first to me also. They definitely pack everything for their convenience and not necessarily grouped together for ease of assembly. Yes, the reward of having the kids being able to enjoy it is definitely worth all the effort in the end. I wouldn't be afraid to dig into the yard some to provide a more level area. It will be much more stable and last longer the closer to level you can get it.
@Mixwell1983
@Mixwell1983 Год назад
@@DoItMyselfGarage my yard slopes at a good 10-15 degree angle one way and then has an odd slope going the other way.. i plan to dig down, put a gravel base and then possibly a 12x12 paver or if it fits a 4x4 footing but this is one project that I'm gonna have to attack little by little no matter what. i think my bro in law and nephew offer help are likely thinking it's gonna be a 2 hour job because they'd retract their offer for help seeing the pile of wood in each box.. Im thinking about doing a time lapse and uploading it on my channel just to get an idea of the overall process.. take care

The walls of the bridge-how did you figure out the spacing? I don’t have a ruler with fractions of a millimeter
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage Год назад
I don't recall that being a huge issue. I think there was a suggested spacing from the ends and then I just went from there. Doesn't have to be exact and the lumber varies some, so I wouldn't be too concerned with it being perfect.

So, i am building this but not 100% set on the location. How hard is it to move once in place? I figured i could put some rollers under it.
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage 2 года назад
We moved it after having everything except the slides, pole and swing-set attached by just picking it up from each end with a few adults. We only moved it about 20 feet or so. It is quite rigid once put together.

Did you have any issue with the tube slide lining up with the wood support? It's just not lining up with uneven ground and I don't know what else to do.
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage 2 года назад
Mine has a slight angle to it and didn't line up the best either with the wood support that goes on the ground. Double-check the diagrams and make sure you have the pieces going the right way if it is off by a ton. Mine isn't on the most level ground either, but seems to be doing fine so far.
@kaitlinexl
@kaitlinexl 2 года назад
@@DoItMyselfGarage thanks. The support is lined up correctly but it's not reaching over the other side of the slide at a right angle... the bracket is still too close to the wood even though I dug into the ground to try leveling it out. I'm at a loss.
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage 2 года назад
I would get some scrap lumber and screw them to the actual support to make up the height difference so it supports their weight as they come down the slide. It keeps the whole slide from twisting and sagging, so that support should have a good foundation. Treated lumber scraps would be the best so that it doesn't rot out quickly sitting on the ground. No different than putting cardboard under an uneven chair leg, but it's wood. :)

What do you recommend to help with page 92? Attaching the board to the tube slide? I can't seem to get the board and bracket lined up properly to attach it.
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage Год назад
Double- check that you have the correct boards and orientation. The tube slide isn't perfectly formed, so some effort to get things to line up and fit might be required depending on how badly misaligned it is. I don't remember having much problem attaching it to the board. The biggest chore was getting all the tubes to line up. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

I’ve read bad reviews about kidktaft wood quality, I’m also worried about 110lb weight limit per swing. I’m a big Dad and I’d like to at least be able sit on the swing. But Costco has this on sale! Haha! What to do??
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage 2 года назад
This is designed for smaller kids (3-10) and has a considerably smaller price tag because of that. The quality of the wood was about what I expected for the weight range it was designed for. A larger, more sturdy set would probably be a better investment for you. I kept this in mind when I bought it because I do have one older grandson that won't be able to play on it much longer. He is more into riding his bike anyway. Honestly, if my granddaughters are still interested in it at 10yrs old I would be surprised. Thanks for watching!

When assembling the tube slide did you find one of the holes didn't align on every piece?
@DoItMyselfGarage
@DoItMyselfGarage Год назад
The tube slide was definitely a 2 person job. We had to "squeeze" the parts to get the holes to line up. Not unusual for large molded pieces to do this. I was able to get every hole to line up, but it wasn't the easiest. Watch the molded alignment arrows, it will help, but it doesn't just fit together perfectly without some muscle unfortunately.

You will need some help with putting up some of the pieces. Most of the pieces can be assembled by yourself, but when it comes to some of the larger items like installing the bridge section and roof you are going to need help balancing them while you screw them together. The tube slide is definitely a two person job.

The KidKraft swing set broke under a year. I contacted customer service and sent all required paperwork and photos and haven't heard back from "Sarah". It started falling apart 6 months after I bought it then completely at 10 months. My daughter was swinging on it and it cracked and off she flew. Terrible customer service. I will not be letting this go simply because the children don't need to be hurt. If they cared they would have contacted me back!
