This is just some acrylic I had in the shop. I believe it was 1/16” but not any thicker than 1/8”. It does not need to be thick

Sir, I found that if I make my own letters and turn them into SVG I can make them to come out perfect. It looks as if you stretch them out like in the video and you look a the size in inches there way off in height, not sure if that's a problem but when I make letters to the exact height and width in inches they seem to come out perfect. Hope you might look at it and see if you see the same problem. I thank you for all your help and thanks for a lot of ideas.

Ok, I order a cheaper version of a Carver because I didn't want to waste a bunch of money during the learning curve. My machine had not arrived yet but I have created a few projects in easel. I created the letter M for my month and half old first grand baby. When I simulated the bottom piece it said six and some odd hours. I then heard you mention the 80"/min so that cut it down to 3hrs and something. I know that is a lot of material to take out in the pocket cut. Is there something I can change to speed the process up. Thanks in advance from the Old Man's Woodshed.

Are you using a 1/4” bit? I used the upgraded XCarve which is much more capable to handle the faster feed rates and depth of cuts. A small lightweight machine will not be able to handle the rates I used in the video

@@PawPawsWorkShop yes I have it set to a 1/4 up fluted bit. I figured if the first board cut was just the over size and flat, then cut the second board out like you did on the second board only different is leave out the pocket cut for the plexiglass and then cut the third board just like you did the second with no changes and then the plexiglass, you would have three boards to glue. I am guessing that would help with the time and wear and tear on a cheaper machine. I am really hoping the learning curve is short in some aspect and long on others. If I learn this carving stuff fast I will be itching to buy a bigger and better machine and I am not sure my financial advisor (wife)would like that. LOL

@@PawPawsWorkShop also I do not have the brevan font and I have downloaded the updated driver for easel. Some of the fonts don't center very well but when create a duplicate d item on a project it centers fine but original item is not centered. How do I get new fonts to add to easel.

Why wouldnt you glue the material together first? Then just pocket cut it. then your glue up would be much easier.

This is one of the things that I wanted to make when I get my CNC. I noticed that you used easel and will probably follow this video again step by step. Is it pretty much the same way if I used Vcarve? Like you mentioned, Vcarve desktop will probably be my best option. I'm okay with buying software but I don't want to pay rent because i probably won't use it as much as you do. Thanks again!

The process in VCarve will be slightly different however the basic concept is the same. I understand completely with buying verses renting the software. Many people feel the exact same way that you do.

Lol, congratulations on retiring in five weeks. I’ll help you with the C and the O. I do not have all the letters created. The purpose is to teach others how to do it so that they can create there own. I’ll also help you in any way to be able to start designing you own.

Not sure I understand what you’re asking. If you’re making the kids bank you’re doing one letter at a time. What exactly are you trying to do?

It should center based on the guidelines around the letter. Just clip on the letter with the mouse and move it to where you want it to be

Sir. Trying to make these banks for my grandkids but having a small problem. When using the off setter it makes the top and bottom different. Top is about .9 and bottom at .5, sides seem ok. I can’t seem to get it to line up properly. If you have any ideas it would be greatly appreciated

Try flipping it over. The top and bottom of the S is not symmetrical. If oriented correctly the two parts fit perfectly. I assume you are using the free file from the Inventables project page

The “J” will need to have a small base added and you can also make it with a flat bottom

To cut the acrylic you should use an upcut bit to get the chip up an out of the way. I typically use an 1/8” bit

There are many small format CNC machines that are budget friendly that can do this type of project. FOXAlien is a great example

The letter I chose to use doesn't center to material properly (or the same way the offset does). It appears that the letter isn't centered in the text box and Easel is centering the text box. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately that is the way easel works. You will have to manually move the text to the desired location

Forgive a newbie, but I have another question... I've tried making a letter bank for my grandson (an A) and when I cut out the bottom it leave a slight ridge every 1/4" or so that requires a great deal of sanding to get out. Any suggestions?

I would suggest checking to see if your router/spindle is not plumb to your wasteboard. A very slight variation will cause the ridges

Little confused, you said at the beginning that you use a 1/4" straight bit to cut out the profile. When you are actually cutting the first piece it looks like a fluted bit. Could you please clarify this for me and a possible link to the straight bit if that's the one you actually used? Thanks. Great work, awesome execution!!!!

Yes, it is a 1/4” fluted end mill. I picked it up at either Home Depot or Lowe’s

This is two pieces of 3/4” material to get the full depth. One s cut entirely through and the second 3/4” piece is cut down 5/8” to create a pocket
