Glad my folks were big tennis fans. I remember the whole family watching Venus winning Wimbledon and my Dad saying her sister might be even better. Legends! I hope this movie is great.
I have no respect for racists....Richard Williams is a racist, he referred to a french female tennis as a white turkey, she couldn`t just be a turkey, nooooooooo she had to be a white turkey so F-him
& so much more than Tiger Woods father, as a parent. The Williams sisters are icons, and the color of their skin only means they struggled harder, especially coming from Compton.
I like the fact that they have actresses who actually know how to play tennis. Their form looks spot on. Hopefully the matches won't be full of cut scenes and tricky camera angles.
I’m in tears. A parents love for their children means more than anything when they believe in them and know they can be all of who they are destined to become if you just pour into them.
@@gilligan80 .. Absolutely agree, as Will Smith says "I planned this before they were born", Like the girls had no say in the matter. It wasn't their dream, it was their dads, Luckily it worked out for the Williams sisters but many kids crash and burn before they achieve their PARENTS dreams.
Finally a brotha shown in a positive light. So many of us successful brothas 48% are in the middle class 52% single and childless but the world for some reason only wants to highlight the worst of us.
I'm going to watch this. I like what he said to his daughters. The most dangerous thing in the world is a woman who can think. I told my son when he was small "Education is a Black man's friend." Which goes back to what my mother told us growing up. Once you learn something they can never take it away from you.
100%. My wife is a doctor. When she started her practice, she put a lot of stress and pressure on herself, partly because of the 6 figure student loans we were still paying off. I would then tell her about my parents, and their lives as small business owners. Some people were into their businesses for about the same amount as my wife was in for her education. The difference was that if everything went to heck, they’d lose everything and have nothing to show for it. On the other hand, she’d always have that education no matter what.
My father told me same thing the Williams sisters' dad did; except he said, "a *Blk* woman". I ended up being one if the first women if color in the PC/Network consulting business on Wall St. in the 1980s/90s. My eldest daughter followed in my footsteps. She started a program in NYC Parks and Rec for women of color in technology a few years ago. Contrary to popular belief, melanated Aboriginal and/or African descended people come from close knit families that strive for whatever they can make from the cards they have been dealt. Most of our successes are ignored by the mainstream in order to perpetuate the myth of the tragic 'blk' man/woman. Enough is enough already. --------- -------- ---------
It wouldnt surprise me if they made a King Richard movie and had a black person play King Richard, because that will somehow get people to stop having "black fatigue" rather than increase it.
Why would that be dangerous? For what? Are you saying women only want to destroy the world so it is scary to give them any power? I know Will said it in the movie.. but think about it. Think through the misogyny which Wills character is projecting here - that he is afraid of a powerful woman.
@john templeplate no it's not. Grow a thicker skin. The movie is showing how some white people try to belittle Black people because of the color of our skin and what they think they know about us.
@@katherinebraxton5068 interesting. I guess everyone turned their heads in shock and awe that there were black kids when your kids walked out on the field/court in 2021?
I met those two and their father at Forest Hill High School back when they were like 11 or 12. They put on a demo during the summer for the USTA. Was insanely good.
Never had a trailer make me tear up I felt touched watching that. Can't wait to watch this movie. oh so inspiring and heart warming. The people that put this trailer together deserves a shout out too. WOW!
I'm liking the fact that Will is playing someone that is relative to his age and he's not really taking as many steps in making himself look super fit.
@@pinkpenzu it might be but the reason why I see it to be a motivational line it's because I believe that the people that mostly struggle on this earth are women, but the ones that go through most shit are black women. Always been undermined and underestimated so yeah that's why I think it's a powerful line
I hear line like this one and people like sha'carri and Simone Biles come into mind, women been fierce and making a stand so trust me women that know how to think are dangerous, you can even tell by how sometimes they try to limit them
Yes. Will portrays this character very (too) similarly what he did with Chris Gardner. Not a bad thing but still, feels a bit strange. And strange choice by Will himself. That said, i think this movie is going to be great!.
I remember my college job as a security officer at KRON TV in San Francisco, This family came in for a TV interview, I had the opportunity to meet the father and the daughters as they walked into the building and waited in the lobby. I remember asking the father who these girls were and he said to me, " These girls are going to be the next big thing in sports history!" These girls just smiled at me. This man wasnt lying!
Will Smith is amazing . The Williams sisters are amazing. Mr. Williams is amazing. This is America folks. I met these folks when my kids played tennis. They deserve every fortune, every accolade, every bit of praise.
Richard Williams rarely gets any credit or mention for His Daughters' success. Sports Media has practically treated him like some footnote. Hopefully this film will right several wrongs. And give That Man his rightful place in Tennis and Sports History. And Will Smith has been on a roll these days.
Yes I’m not a big tennis fan but 20 years ago when I was at school (uk) I loved watching Wimbledon every year. Really saw these shine and remember seeing on the news a short clip of their dad training them on the court with a shopping trolley full of tennis balls. I didn’t realise until this trailer that they was from Compton. In England we have a few public tennis courts that can be used, but it’s mostly a privileged sport and not played in the majority of comprehensive schools as they don’t have tennis court facilities. To think this man believed in his children so much and trained them so hard to what they become today is unbelievable. All people are gifted in some way. But for them both to rise to the top of this game is a true testament to how hard he trained them. I bet it wasn’t all happy, but to where they got to and where they came from is truly unbelievable and bet there was a lot of prejudice/ snobbery they had to deal with too.
exactly & when he was mentioned they created this " country ass crazy father" narrative meanwhile he raised a doctor & two tennis phenomenons in his household
Honestly if you watched them grow into tennis stars over the early years, the dad was all over the tv and they talked alot about how he turned them into pros. Richard got his due but this movie will give him his props as a father.
Although we all know the outcome, this trailer actually made tear up due to the fact that I can predict how hard it was for them to get to their actual champion level which demanded sacrifices, discipline and ofc failures.
Did y'all see how simply and skillfully these parents kept their Family's amazing story for The Family. King was in negotiations with All them to come "managers." They built their Family's story through their literal Blood, Sweat, Tears and through the fear. Amazing story of the negotiation technique, "know when to hold dem."
Didn't know there was a movie about Venus & Serena's Daddy Richard Williams?! As Venus & Serena's awesome careers are winding down, this will be a great watch about their father and them as young girls!
@@NeverTrustaSocialist guess we'll have to wait and see if they show them entering a public school all I see is them in a house with backpacks... and yeah movies do whatever they want... imagine getting excited over that
@Eren Yeager But the point i made was the emphasis on the scene and how they portrayed it as a comeback to the women’s line of questioning… Nothing of that sorry actually happened to the Williams family, they embellished it in the movie.
Whether it happened or didn’t happened the point is that it’s to inspire the kids. If we are going to focus on the small things than what’s the point!!! The kids need something to see besides instragram; snapchat and TikTok. Let’s motivate them off the damnnnnnn couch.
@@luzjacobo2799 Mate, I couldn’t agree with you anymore. But you don’t help and inspire people by basing their idols on disingenuous motives.. Isn’t a story about two American girls dominating a global sport good enough ? Or do we always have to make it a point to virtue signal and victimise people of certain backgrounds to prove a specific narrative Thats not inspiration, thats dirty politics.. I don’t want my nieces and nephews growing up thinking that world would be unjust to them coz of their skin colour and low family income..
When will cries, I cry, the audience cries, that's it! Never knew about richard, was a shocking reveal that this movie is based on those sisters. I'll definitely watch it !
This reminds me of the FLAWLESS Will Smith, you know what I´m talking about, his acting in Seven Pounds and The Pursuit of Happyness... He will get an Oscar nomination FOR SURE
Now that's what I'm talking about I am so hype to see this movie. Black magic at its best. I respect the dad so much I got goosebumps when he put the reporter in his place for trying to sow doubt & inferiority into the mind of his daughter during the interview.....I was so proud of you 👏🏾❤💜♥
I am looking forward to seeing Will Smith getting a Oscar for this role for the movie King Richard. He has never been better when he performs on the big screen.
I remember when that guy ran up and hugged him. Most of us would like to do the same. He's got "it" whatever "it" is. This looks to be a beautiful story.
Don't get me wrong I like Action guy Will Smith, but feel when seeing him in drama movies is where he peaks. And he sure deserves a Oscar for me he should have had a couple already!
@@axgreenious9400 LOL but WTF does winning a oscar or suggesting him to get one has anything to do with the state of A country? Yes there are more important things in life, but we are talking about entertainment something you might have missed.
And people thought Richard Willams was crazy.WRONG! He was right on point when said Venus and Serena would be great! And they are great!Never back down your dream.Strive for it!👌🏾✊🏽
Most knew he wasn't crazy. They just couldn't stand the audacity that he had to proclaim his daughters would be better champs than theirs. A dedicated, strong black father is often disliked by this society. They object way less when the father is a deadbeat.
Hope they keep the story true to the book Mr. Williams wrote called Black and White. Probably not knowing Hollywood. One of my favorite books and a must read.
Richard Williams is responsible for two of the greatest tennis players that ever lived. And yet, he's never gotten his full credit. Weird huh? I cannot wait to see this movie.
I disagree with this statement. I know what Mr Williams looks like and sounds like. In fact, I thought is this going to be about the Williams girls before I even knew because of how familiar I am with him. He got his credit in the beginning. Everyone knew how hard he worked with them. Like every good father should do, he knew when to step aside and give his girls the limelight and not be trying to get it for himself.
