Kingdom Come (v1.9) - How to Fight - Advanced Fighting / Combat Guide

It annoys me when a group of peasant bandits armed with bludgeons and a common shield are able to perform the master strike technique. Meanwhile, Henry had to actually practice and master this technique with Captain Bernard.

Also: When the distance between you and the opponent becomes too great, he will get out of the combat stance and run towards you. If you initiate a stab attack at the right time, he will run into your blade, a guaranteed hit.

All time, before I watched this vid I used long sword + shield and wonder why I cant into combo, lol.

Tip: If you move the red part of the star ( the star showing where you're gonna hit ) to the top and stab right efter, you will stab them in the face. It's very usefull, best used after you win a clinch.

A guide that starts being a guide and ends being a guide and no inflated crap in the middle, good job.

Regarding the master strike unlock: you dont need to progress deep into the story. just right after the duell with Hans Capon it is available as soon as you trained all other available trainings with bernard and have your skill in the weapon you want to learn thw master strike at at least 4 or 5. tested it yesterday because i wated to start a new run to celebrate the aniversary.

This is probably best explanation of combat mechanics in KCD I have seen on RU-vid. Kudos!

I had mostly given up combos as enemies would perfect block or master strike me often. Thanks a lot! Great video, very good quality with clear and organized instructions.

I remember playing Baptism in Fire and using the False Edge combo against Runt immediately. He was knocked down in less than 5 seconds of combat. I was shocked how realistic it was since Runt had no helmet on. Felt sad that it ended quickly but my Henry was already a BEAST.

Few years back I played the hell out of this game, got really good gear, and got very good but fighting after much trial and error. Unfortunately I burnt myself out before I completed the game and now I want to dive back in. I just remember it was a steep learning curve so this helps.

Didn't notice the highlight combo till you mentioned it. Now I need to activate Sharingan to see that spit second combo.

I had no idea about the flashing white part of the combo string. I gave up really trying to memorize them over time but with this i may be able to slowly make attempts in learning them on the fly and gain the muscle memory. Thank you!

My very first playthrough is on hardcore, and I really feel like a peasant holding a sword for the very first time. On HC there is no HUD at all, so blocking is really hard. I just hide behind a shield and stab like a madman.

Gotta be honest this video was actually kinda helpful even though Ive been playing for 2 years. I never really know how to time the evade, and never knew that pressing block will match the opponents stance, and I never noticed the direction glowing during combos...

Awesome content dude, also a tip for archery if you go outside rattay at night where bernard teaches you to fight there will be a heard of sheep in the meadow next to the training ring. Go there with the weakest bow/arrow combo you have available. It will take 2 or 3 hits to kill the animals this way which gets you more experience than a powerful bow that kills with a single shot because you get experience for each arrow that hits a live target. You can easily gain 3 or so levels in bow, hunting, agility, strength and vitality by doing this. And can be repeated every time you leave and travel back to the city

i was commited to using longsword like a proper knight, i only use the other weapons when forced to in tournament.

And I was wondering why the hell I can't take down the armored soldiers with my Sword. It turned out, that I should be using a Mace.

The bow is OP AF. Just backpedal, soak up the occasional hit with your armor while waiting for an opening in their stance and turn them into a pincushion. 8 arrows or less for any bad guy vs. 20 minutes of dancing around with a sword.

This is a pretty good summary, video well done! Combos are harder to learn in hardcore more whithout the UI for reference. This and with a mouse makes it quite difficult.

I know I'm EXTREMELY late on this, but I just now started getting into this game after finally giving it a fair chance, the dodge is useful for whenever you are outnumbered, don't try and block because the ones that circle around you will take that opportunity and pummel you and ragdoll you in every direction, dodge them, whenever they try to they will either stumble and fall, giving you some time to make more space so you can pick them off one by one, or they will sometimes even hit each other.

This is one really impressive guide (Y) I was deciding to buy between two portions. aqua vitalis with 50% less damage vs buck blood with 50% more stamina As Stamina somewhat represents armor when being armed I made my choice :D PS: The number of your subs actually surprised me quite a lot...

For bows the arrow goes to the end of your wrist and an equal distance up. If you got gloves on you can use the top of the circle wrist, the leather gloves even have a pointy part at the top to easily guide you, and it will be much easier to calculate.

You can stab either the body or head by targeting the head before hitting stab. Lets you basically insta-kill guys with no headgear.

Masterstrike having your sword in one position opposite the start of a combo, usually right or up that way you roll from master strike to combo, then combo clinch hit f to push back with leg back up stab then start the next combo.

I bought this game in like 2020/2021. But I ended up having to stop playing because I just couldn't get the hang of the combat. I was absolutely horrible. I got to the part where Henry & Sir Radzic attacked the Cuman camp in the woods & you have to fight Runt. I must have made 200 attempts (No Exaggeration) & I never got him below 75-80% HP. About half of those attempts I didn't even land a single strike. A few days ago, My best friend & I were talking about KCD & I decided to redownload it & give it another try. I am very glad I decided to try again because this time I have actually gotten a grasp & better understanding of the combat mechanics & strategy. I knew the combat was skill based. They emphasized that significantly. But I didn't realize just how skill based it actually is. I didn't know that using block while within close range triggers a clinch. I would hold the block button down instead of just during an incoming attack. So I would clinch alot & I thought it was just the game doing it which made me very fustrated. Besides the clinch, I always knew that it was me & not the game who was at fault. So I didn't have those moments of saying "This game sucks" because I kept dying. Instead I was frustrated at myself for not being able to understand the combat. I almost quit the game before the fight with Runt during the quest where you go hunting with Hans Capon & he is captured by the 2 Cumans. I spent around a week to a week & a half trying to beat that quest. I finally completed it by the grace of good. I pretty much cheesed it. I snuck up as close as I could to the swordsmen & put an arrow in his head, then I tried shooting the archer where I hit him with 1 maybe 2 arrows before turning to my sword to finish him off. But like I said, It was pure luck & not skill. Technically I haven't done 1 playthrough because I was never able to finish the story. But I am on my 2nd "playthrough" & I finally got the combat to click for me. I was even able to get Hans Capon's Bow after a draw in the archery contest & then defeating him in the sword contest.

I do like maces, especially with the knockout perk. Super satisfying to get two instant knockouts via headbonk.

this game is very hard for me but the combat is very satisfying when you do succeed. i literally get so excited when i win a fight even if i have a save right before i started the fight

Even though I find the fighting enjoyable in this game, the mechanics is quite broken: Just run towards your enemy to start “sword-wrestling”, knock him back and get a free stab or slash at your opponent. Directly run up on him again... rinse and repeat! You will win every tournament with ease - no skill or combo required. It gets a bit more tactical with multiple opponents: A lot of moving and repositioning, some well timed blocking in between and finding the right time to get in, but I fought whole camps with over half a dozen enemies using this simple knock-back method - just be faster than your opponent hitting that punch button. PS: Good armoring helps for fighting groups.

with the addition of the drunkard skills, you can now do archery fairly easy, but you need the skill where being drunk improves accuracy by 25%

Put a sticker or something at the reticle when unarmed. Boom now you can see where you are aiming when using a bow

A very well made video! The way I fight is using heavy armor and a longsword. I rely on master strikes and clinches. If you clinch with a short weapon (any other than a longsword) you have a small chance of your hit to reach your opponent while he's vulnerable, unless you're in a tight corner and he has no room to move back to. I also like you deducted that attack chains are of no use against skilled enemies in late game, because they will block, evade or most likely counter your chain. So apart from the moves I've mentioned I also rely on fenits when my enemy is skilled and will not attack me for a long time to avoid a master strike. In this game I counted myself ready to fight when I won against Bernard with real weapons. My ultimate victory that I'm proud of is in Skalitz, when you return there is a good chance you will catch Cumans fighting super bandits (that's what I call bandits with expensive gear) the Cumans almost immediately die and they shift their attention to you, there's at least 3-4 of them so one wrong move will mean death and I was skilled enough to take down all of them.

1:31 i finished the game twice while bashing my head against the wall and wondering how to do the master strikes so you should keep in mind you actually need to go to bernard second time to learn master strike, it should be in the training options

the game has a built in crosshair for archery in the console commands, it's on the wiki, just putting it out there for people who may not know.

he totally summoned that bot, because that's the bot i use to train on. he has some of the best armor, including the italian bascinet, which i'm pretty sure is the best helmet in the game

I was getting rekt a lot in game... then i mapped the buttons to be similar to Mordau controls. Been owning bandits easy ever since. Didn't know about tapping block to adjust my position to match the enemy though, that will help too ty.

I like how there is an NVG / GoPro mount on that helmet at 4:02 :V

My little tip: If you come across a bunch of bandits while on road or a bandit's camp....dont dismount your horse to attack them. Instead, stay on your horse and run/gallop a bit far, turnaround, then gallop again to gain speed and slash the enemy. Keep doing this to every enemy. Its much easier this way to kill any number of bandits, than to dismount and let them surround you. But dont stop moving far away, otherwise they will pull you down from your horse.

Great guide! You missed two things, though. First, master strikes are performed by matching your guard to the enemy's and performing a perfect block, not by chance on a perfect block. Second, on Consoles, click your right stick to lock/switch targets. Without the little circle around the star, you can easily unlock by accident and get fucked against multiple enemies.

Everytime I go near pribyslavitz 🤷‍♂️ I get ambushed by 5 peasants and a dog, the dog latches onto my arm and I'm done, bludgeoned to death 🤬

So this was the guide covering EVERYTING I was looking for all this time... One thing I feel like was missed which I've read people talk about, is perfect block/master strike against multiple enemies... I haven't been able to pull this off, whenever I've been surrounded I rarely see more than one enemy (maybe I should increase FOV) and knowing if they're about to strike to get a riposte off seems impossible... But I'm guessing you will do a perfect block if you just click the block keybind when one of the surrounding enemies starts performing his attack? Lastly, there is only master strike, and no way to ripost after a perfect block it sounds like? So pressing the attack key after perfect block isn't any different other than the enemy just got staggered? You still do a regular attack?

I had to spam clinch on heavy armored opponents. Really hated doing that but I won everytime

Shoutout to polearms: while you can’t perform master strikes with them, you also can’t perform master strikes against them and they do a loooot of damage. So if you’re low level, having a polearm means you can go toe-to-toe with a high level enemy and win.

I kinda wish master strikes didn't exist. I find fights where they don't come up far more engaging.

Like alot of people I was very frustrated with this game until several hours after grinding fighting practice, archery, hunting, lockpicking + associated training. Now its enjoyable to roam around and take on cumans or bandits etc. Still not easy but can be done.

you forgot about applying bleed with long sword is easier and it stacks with poison damage.
