According to Sakurai in the Sephiroth Presentation, Marx was originally supposed to be even creepier but they had to tone him down because he wasn't suitable for all ages. 1) This _is_ suitable for all ages? 2) I need early Marx concept art more than I've needed anything else in my entire life.
Marx really is, for Nintendo standards, absolutely terrifying. The theme playing while his dead body absorbs the clockwork parts of the now dead Nova has this sense of morbid beauty, like it's some kind of metamorphosis. It doesn't go back to sounding bad until he flies into battle. His design is another thing, same for his laugh and obviously scream. But you can even tell that there are hints of "morbid beauty" in his attacks. Namely the bombs that grow into stems with roses on them. This is probably my favorite Kirby boss just because of how chilling it is.
2 things 1. Actually, I think what made Marx revive was not absorbing parts of Nova, but rather I think Dark Matter was taking control of Marx 2. I think, the scariest boss in Nintendo standards is Zero Two, just look at him, and yet, his original design was scarier, as his wings actually had his veins and arteries out.
@@sarkside7954 Zero two has a clearly terrifying design, but there is nothing in Nintendo that can be compared to Giygas from Earthbound, the design similar to the face of a man without eyes and screaming in agony already says a lot, and not to mention his third phase when you can literally see a kind of shape that resembles that of a fetus. This, added to his battle music, undoubtedly takes the number one position of how terrifying Nintendo can be.
@@Helkaiser But Giygas, in my opinion, his design is not so scary, but the way his image is corrupted little by little and how it surrounds the entire screen, is what is really scary
Honestly, the cutscene gave me chills when it first started playing, seeing Marx's lifeless body floating around the debris that used to be Nova disturbed the heck out of me, even when that said corpse absorbs the broken parts in order to become a tougher boss really got me on edge. The whole fight had me on edge in general, I wasn't fighting the same Marx, I was fighting what used to be Marx, a LITERAL zombie. After I've finally defeated him that scream of his shook me to the core as if he was screaming directly at me. I didn't forget that scream for days and it's a reminder that Kirby games lose their innocent nature when facing a disturbing enemy.
I'm not sure if Marx Soul is actually a zombie or not. Marx in his True Form is like a vampire or a demon. Back from the dead: Marx Soul might be this.
I think his plan upon his death was to catch Kirby off-guard by pretending to die, then suddenly teleporting back in and using his black hole attack, but he didn't have enough energy left to "keep himself together" and ended up accidentally killing himself
sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who feels bad for Marx, considering he died twice (canonically) and his scream shows how much pain he's in, and his first death was brutal, literally crashing into a planet, I can't help but pity the crazy jester
Actually with the exception or Drawcia Soul most "Soul" bosses are not canon. It has been confirmed they are basically "what if "moments. The same believe it or not goes for Galacta Knight and any event that takes place outside the main game.
My God...ten long years since this game and this childhood nightmarish fever dream was released. Let's not forget though that Marx made the original Pepe reee.
I remember for a long time, Marx Soul was really like a ghost to me. I thought I had done everything I could in this game, only to one day stumble upon a really low quality RU-vid video of that intro where Marx is brought back to life. I didn't know if it was even real, because this was back when I didn't really have easy access to the internet, so I couldn't look up whether the video was legit. I could only speculate what more awaited me in this game, and if that mythical _thing_ that lurked in the horrible depths of the True Arena truly existed. I spent hours in there trying and trying to get past those first 3 bosses of the final four. I literally faked being sick one day so that I could stay home from school and play my DS, only to finally face Marx Soul and be horrified by what I saw. That scream is etched into my soul (ha).
Bro same, I had no internet back then and was playing this game 100% blind. When I got to this point of the game (after literal hours of getting my ass kicked 😆) I saw that little banner in the top right just to see Marx’s head. My immediate thought was “pffft really? Again with this dude? Easy . But anti-climatic” Then I saw the cutscene and was like “oh poop, I spoke to soon”.
As someone whose favorite Kirby game of all time was Super Star, seeing this cutscene as I played Ultra for the first time made my jaw drop. :o He's literally a zombie at this point, and that scream at the end is like his soul being torn apart.
I'm not sure if Marx Soul is actually a zombie or not. Marx in his True Form is like a vampire or a demon. Back from the dead: Marx Soul might be this.
Peachy 12 Same but when I was in 3rd grade. I hated true arena but it was even worse for me to fight Marx again, dying from black holes and lasers I couldn’t escape from. Looking back, I’m very happy I figured out the tricks and learning new controls. Suplexing became my new favorite skill.
Kirby: the franchise that knows the only way to show a boss has been defeated... is to show a bunch of random explosions that are not even part of the boss itself
This little bastard creeped me out so much as a kid and I had a really difficult time defeating him, he was so tough! I don't even remember how I did it in the end, lol. 😅👍
When Marx Soul splits in half, I can't help but notice his tongue is blue, his face goes from purple to hot pink, the charm thing he's wearing also changes color, AND his hat goes all pink instead of one blue half. Could all this mean something?
Which means if we ever get a remake of Super Star Ultra, there would be a rematch with Galacta Knight but rainbow colored (AKA: Galacta Knight EX), A Shadow version of Masked Dedede without the mask that is harder than Kirby Triple Deluxe Shadow Dedede, A bedrock version of Wham Bam Jewel whose name is Wham Bam Bedrock, Masked Dedede would also be fought in Gourmet Race, Dynablade will come back as revenge from defeating her earlier (AKA: Nightmare Blade), a new arena will appear which is named "The Real Arena", and the Marx Soul you described will be fought in The Real Arena which is known as Void Marx. And when Void Marx is defeated, he will do the same scream but instead of changing look and splitting in half, he will be shown with the same image as Marx Soul's defeated version and a bunch of stars will come out of his body making different faces, and before he disappears, he will give out a little smile in similarity to Astral Birth Void. If nintendo made this along with other remakes of previous games, I would be happy.
(during Kirby star allies) Marx (appears) Kirby: not again!- wait a minute...you were hungry all along?. (Gives food to Marx), better?. Marx: better. And I'll join your allies in fighting this new threat.
I’d love one day to see Marx Soul get the treatment Magolor Soul got in RTDD where it’s brutally difficult. Because looking back at this boss now, it doesn’t compare to what we get nowadays.
Oh believe me it’s more difficult than it looks. Ultra doesn’t have nearly as much I frames as modern games, so for instance if you lose your ability and swallow it again, you can basically lose it instantly after you get it again, and more attacks break the guard. You would be suprised how much damage some of theese attacks do, and although it may not be hard at full hp with hammer, surviving galacta knight at full hp is another matter.
Late to comment, but worth noting that was Marx's dead body fused, meaning Kirby didn't hesitate at all. Other anime heroes would do the "But if we kill him, we'll be just like him." Kirby just straight up killed him, right then and there.
I thought this was a nice upgrade to the Marx boss fight. I gotta say though. The moment where you defeat him and that scream really got me the first time.
*Masahiro Sakurai:* "We made Marx less creepy in smash to make it suitable for all audiences" *Nintendo a few years prior:* "Make the eels in Odyssey even scarier than Galaxy. The kids will love it."
Wdym Marx is hella or even more creepy on smash. He's just creepy staring at you at the start and his new attacks are disturbing like the attacks that involve the eyeballs.
One of my favourite childhood games right here. Good memories of hiding my DS under my pillow when dad barged in to see if i’m sleeping while i’m trying to take down marx 😂😂
Ah yes, while marx’s corpse is flying through space, he absorbs the power of nova via the pieces he blew off to become ultra nightmare fuel (kirby super star ultra? more like: Kirby super star ultra nightmare fuel) and when meta knight uses nova to summon galacta knight you can see the blown iff piece.
Ngl this video makes it look easy compared to how hard the fight really is. Marx does a lot of damage and partners get deleted by 3 hits and full health is almost nessary to win if you're not using hammer or if you're always guarding and even then the laser attack pierces guard.
