On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we begin our 2023-24 Player Report Cards at the top with Kirill Kaprizov. We discuss his slow start, and absolutely torrid finish that put him among the 10 best players in the NHL over the final 62 games of the season. We look at where this season stacked up compared to Kaprizov's previous seasons, and why this year may have been some of his best work considering just how much he carried the team down the stretch. I think he's got good line mates maybe not elite if Hynes leaves them together for extended periods of time not just a handful of games. There were many times that Kaprizov-Jeek-Boldy were among the best trio's in the league. 2nd line needs someone better than a healthy scratch player playing to Rossi's left.

@@ronrubiin4956 Kirill makes everyone around him better. They would not have had the seasons they had without Kirill. Ek, Rossi, Zucc and Boldy were ghosts without him. Kirill doesn't have a Nylander or a Draisaitl to play with, for example...

Seth,, thanks for the shout out Let me elaborate,,as you brought up the First 20 games, everyone thought there was something wrong with him, There was as you brought up,, the difference was his edge work,, when he got strong enough, his edge work came back, and took off , I can't think of another player who has better edge Work, Makar is close, kids now practice there edge work, because of Kaprizov, he has changed the way kids skate today,, In my opinion kaprizov will go down as top ten player of all time,, And just think of this, he was deemed To small for the NHL

My favorite part Denny is that he really has developed a toughness and snarl. He's starting to mix it up with players that try to use their size over him. He really has everything a good player needs to succeed

Kaprizov is awesome! He’ll have to do exactly what he’s doing now for another 7-10 years and probably get a cup too. Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe, Orr, Crosby, Ovechkin, Mackinnon, McDavid, Hull, Coffey, Bossy, Sakic, Yzerman, Jagr, Messier, Fedorov, Lidstrom, etc.

My guy. You scared me so bad when you faked out the ending. At first I was like "Nah your rollin bro keep going!" but then I checked the video length and thought "Thats right 😎" haha. Kaprizov A+. Not super noticeable all the time defensively (in the good way) but has his moments. I understand the no PK time but thats not even a factor to me. He is a great teammate and is capable of singlehandedly driving a teams 5v5 offense given some decent linemates while also dominating the PP.

I've bought this up before, and had no response, at all so here goes one more time, Kaprizov is in a unique position, The first in Minnesota Wilds history Kaprizov can dictate to Billy somewhat Of what he wants, and if Billy doesn't listen to him, that gives kaprizov a reason to leave, and not feel bad about it, because Billy didn't listen to him It's time for kaprizov to take charge of the wild, Yurov didn't come over because kaprizov didn't endorse it As Yurov said in an interview, no room Remember, it's time to make kaprizov the CAPTAIN, it's his team, and how can you go wrong, when you swear at The ref and he has no clue, nobody wants to Win more than Kaprizov

Well said, and sorry I missed this before Denny. Sometimes comments get lost in the shuffle but you are exactly right. Kirill should have influence on how this roster looks going forward. The Yurov decision was bad, hopefully Guerin doesn’t get blinded by his ego again or that may be the decision that makes Kirill decide to leave us in the dust

@@dennybarlau8065 he was clearly playing through injury all of Oct, Nov, and into Dec. He was a liability with the turnovers. Perhaps if he properly recovered and rehabbed, he could have been up to his usual standard sooner than while trying to play through it. He did not pass the eye test, and I was not alone in seeing it.

@@tracymoon4437 due to his injury, he didn't workout at all So his getting ready for the season, was playing, true he was a Liability, but he was working his way back to game shape When his edge work came back, he was the Kaprizov we all have come expect, if you can, review his skating for the first 20 games It's significant, and remember scoring 18 points in 19 games Really shows just how good he is,
