Gotta say that you made pretty much every point I would have made about this album. The production is phenomenally clean and the playing is as tight as Kiss ever was. The bass line on Getaway is my overall favorite of Gene’s and the one on Room Service is outstanding as well. The transformation of She from the Wicked Lester version is amazing. The songs flow really well, though when I was growing up I always started with side two. I will also say the album cover is really different and I really love it. Great review. I imagine somewhere down the line we will not agree completely as we do on this one. But that is no issue as far as I’m concerned.
One of their best album, it’s all killer, no filler! The mix is outstanding, I think it’s the best sounding of the originals. The first 3 are classics, but something about this album is better. The cover art and the embossed Kiss around the picture are outstanding. In general, no one does covers like Kiss does, so many of my all time favorites are Kiss.
Their “garage band” album (which isn’t a bad thing). 4 5stars- Rock Bottom, She, Love her all I can and RNRAN(alive) version. 3 2stars though, Two Timer, Ladies in Waiting and Anything for my Baby.
I liked, yes liked, all three of the first studio albums but nothing really stands out as brilliant on Dressed to Kill. It is my favorite cover of the pre Alive records. Anything for My Baby and Rock Bottom are very good but that's about it. If I were to review this album I would rate it a 3 ⭐ with Love Her All I Can getting 4 ⭐'s, She getting 5 and Anything For My Baby with 4. Everything else? 3 stars or less. Thanks for sharing your love of KISS 💋.
Yes, I totally get that not everyone feels the way I do about DTK. But I think it's a little like trying to explain why you love pancakes. I don't know - they're pancakes! I just love them 😁
I totally agree; this is definitely the best sounding of the first 3! I wish the mix would have been like this on the first two! Guitars sound so much better! The songwriting is incredible! Last album that truly was a complete band effort! I personally think kiss could pull off an album like this now, I know I know you are laughing lol! Hear me out; lol! They could record and just send each other individual tracks! No pressure do at their on time and pace! No in fighting cause it could be handled through managers and lawyers! I seriously think it would be huge, the vinyl could be released in 5 versions! Red, purple, blue, green, black! Us kiss nerds would buy all 5 lol! Just my two cents!
Recording quality-wise, I thought this was the best, but the songs felt more rushed, to me, and I guess this album was very wicked lester heavy. I think "Love Her All I Can" is still one of best KISS songs off any album, I think. I think the issue with this album is because I know that Neil Bogart was pushing them for a hit, to save the record company. I loved the whole album, but to me, the music wasn't as POWERFUL and grabbed me by the balls, like Hotter Than Hell did, but it was better than the debut album.
David, I'm from NE Oklahoma. Not far from Joplin, MO. I remember you saying you grew up in Missouri in one of your videos. Your ranking have shocked me. My own rankings are vary similar. Let's visit sometime off line. I'd definitely love to visit the DTK street corner in NY. Reply and I'll give you an email address.
I like this album, but put it 3rd of 1st 3. It's a sandwich really. Each side begins and ends with the meat, and decent filler between. The difference here, is it's good, and nothing I skip over often.
Dressed to Kill is a decent album, but it's not better than Creatures of the Night, Revenge, or Destroyer! I like watching your reviews of all the Kiss albums, but this one I think you got a little wrong. I would rank it 8th. best maybe.
