With Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley acting as the Lennon and McCartney of the band. along with other superb musicians all through their career. I've been Playing in a band professionally for 30 years called HARD LABOUR. Kiss are a good and tight band musically and their original early music is great. Every good Rock band has a spark member and Ace was the spark in Kiss but the other band mates brought that spark out of him. Any professional musician will understand and appreciate what I'm saying. It's a lot of hard work and a great live band becomes tight after 500 gigs. It is Not as easy as it looks so show some respect.

In 1981 I had just turned 10 and my parents said I could pick out my own birthday gift so I started scrolling through all the albums. Now being that we didn't have a lot of $$$ I was limited to this one section and that was where I discovered this crazy looking band called KISS and the album was their 1975 KISS Alive album. Needless to say that was the day I was also drafted into the Kiss Army...talk about getting lucky that day because I was allowed a 2nd album due to the sale and found another KISS album which was Dress To Kill. Not only does their music bring back great memories but just the process of discovering their music but I can even remember cranking out Hotter Then Hell and the look on my friends face as we are making up stories about where these larger then life characters may have come from😂😂😂 not many bands can create that atmosphere...All hail the Kiss Gods🤩🤩🤩

There is only one reason why i started playing the drums : Peter Criss, the year was 1980, the year of his departure. I had taken it upon myself to be his replacement. I was 8 years old. True story.

Why does everybody that hears the beginning of Detroit Rock City think the guy is working on his car? He's working at a restaurant washing dishes, clinking forks and knives, waiting to get off and go to the concert.

I first got KISS in 1979 when I was 14. Dynasty had just been released here in Australia and they just exploded. I loved the singles from that album and still do. A great album completely. I first saw KISS sometime in 1978. My older brother had been loaned Double Platinum by a friend and it was lying around. I remember picking it up and trying to work out what was on the cover. I remember thinking it was sort of interesting but I could not work out what I was actually looking at. I didn't even put it on. Then came Dynasty. I have been hooked since. I just love the original KISS. To this day. TOTAL FUCKING ROCK!

Advice from a fan since 1975: Listen to the stuff up until Creatures Of The Night. Everything afterward just isn't Kiss - even the Reunion stuff. KISS was best when they were young and hungry. So, the shows and the albums up to Alive II are awesome! Solo Albums are ok, but disjointed. The Elder, Dynasty, Unmasked... are so/so. Creatures was the band's last gasp, in my opinion.

For the record it was Bruce,Eric Singer and John Corabi during a KISS convention. The whole lot were so nice. They were more interested in us the fans than the strippers. KISS is a genre that most people forgot existed. It's called Rock n' Roll. They were probably the last Rock n' Roll band to ever be. When their tour is finished, that genre will be gone. That being said, the amount of factual errors in this video were kind of a lot. Mostly about which songs were on which album, who wrote what song, etc. The 4 album contract agreement, etc. But, you're coming at it from a hard rock and metal appreciation angle, which is cool. KISS eventually went into so many genres, that they appeal to anyone. Some say Carnival of Souls is their best album, others The Elder. I personally can't pick a favorite album -maybe their debut album- but I can find a host of KISS songs to fit whatever mood I'm in. KISS however is a strange band concerning their fans. No other band get's crucified like KISS does for having new members. Every band has had replacement members. Is it weird that Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer wear make-up that was unique to Ace and Peter, yes. I could care less, so long as they sound awesome (which Eric Singer certainly does) But, the band is very much a brand these days, like Disney. Family friendly music, a huge stage show, singing the same 16 songs every fricken concert. It's turned into Americana. Go see Mt. Rushmore, visit the Grand Canyon, and catch a KISS show. The band that everyone called talent-less in their time, influenced so many guitar players it's not even funny. And their talent compared to today's rock is light years beyond anyone that hits the stage today, because they have decades of experience. Every festival they play at, they constantly blow every proceeding band away. Even with Paul's broken voice.

Peter didn’t choose his make up because he loved cats. He chose it because he survived on the streets growing up and felt he had nine lives like a cat. Ace Frehley was not always spaced out. He was into science fiction, UFOs and extra terrestrial stories. That’s why he chose Space Ace. Gene Simmons never thought of himself as a "demon". He was a fan of horror movies, comic books and classic monsters. The only one you had even kind of close is Paul Stanley. Although he thought of himself as a star, it was more of a star child.

Me neither. In his book, Paul said the extent of his chemical use never went beyond alcohol and a little pot here and there. It is known however that Bob Ezrin was coked up the entire time but it was the 70's. It was largely accepted in the music business.

So who is the drummer on Larger Than Life ? Prior to Creatures that was the best makeup era drumming I can think of. Anton Fig ? There isn’t much the Kiss Army agrees on anymore but it seems unanimous. The first boulder of the avalanche which buried Kiss in the 70s was ‘Kiss Meets the Phantom’. That was when I realized they were fallible and so apparently did a whole lot of original fans. Love your documentary. Thanks for all the work you obviously put into it and for speaking your mind like only a hardcore Kiss fan would. They’re ridiculous. I can’t justify them to anyone who isn’t a fan. Pretty darn entertaining and I dug lots of the footage you chose to help bring it all to life even more (for songs that don't have videos or live versions particularly). Only a few nitpicky things if I may; I think at 04:49 that live photo is actually of a tribute band, and not KISS - I could be wrong but it looks like another band.... also, calling "Mainline" a "ballad" struck me as odd. Sure it's a bit lighter fare than some of the other tunes on HTH, and has more of that R&B/boogie-woogie side to KISS, but definitely not a "ballad"...finally, you sort of correct yourself near the end about Eric Carr's reputation with the fans but it can't be overstated enough; there's a reason you NEVER hear a negative word about Eric, and it's thanks to a very well-earned rep for being 1000% awesome with his fans since day one 'til the end. Everyone knows that about The Fox, just wanted to put that in writing here (the same can be said about Bruce Kulick, one of the nicest guys in RnR). Overall, this doc and your '80s KISS one starting with Creatures are lots of fun, so keep up the humorous take and the deep research on the hottest band in the land and I'm sure we'll keep watching.

Not sure if this comment belongs on Part 1 or Part 2, as it occurs between the two, but this retrospective totally skips Killers, an import and partial compilation, granted, but with four new tracks: I'm a Legend Tonight, Down on Your Knees, the awesome Nowhere to Run, and Partners in Crime. This was the introduction of Michael James Jackson who went on to produce Creatures and Lick it Up.

Does anyone remember the 1978 classic Kiss movie (not Detroit Rock City) The Phantom of The Park?
@lorenzocabrini
@lorenzocabrini 4 года назад
Whatever you say about them, for many of us they were the first step on the journey. Once I had got used to the hard rock sound of KISS, I began to discover other bands: AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Krokus and then it just went on from there. I had a lot of anger in me, so eventually I gravitated towards the likes of Slayer, Destruction and Voi Vod. As a young kid who was addicted to horror movies and anime (Goldrake, Mazinga Z, etc), Gene and Ace were really cool as well. I had no clue that Gene was a douche and even is somebody would've told me, I'd just think it was grown-ups being dicks as always. I really don't care that he's a douche now either. He has the right to be whatever he likes. I can't stand Paul and his bitching, but that's another story. And to be honest, some of their old material is still good. I don't listen to them that often, but from time to time, I'll give Detroit Rock City, Black or Black Diamond a listen, just to enjoy good old times.

Yeah I got into KISS by accident. It wasn't my first step. I was like in reverse. I was watching Lucifer's California Son video one day & it has an Ace in makeup cameo& I was like "who is that guy?" But it's real quick. It's just a flash of his face in the video.

Kiss AC-DC the 2 best bands of all time. Krokus were an underrated band.
@lorenzocabrini
@lorenzocabrini 4 года назад
@@studio-flash I agree that Kiss and AC/DC are great bands and the Krokus was underrated, althouth they were quite popular back in the days, but of course not on par with a band like Iron Maiden. However, there are a lot of great bands out there. I really like Iron Maiden with Di Anno. Not that Bruce Dickinson isn't a good singer, he is. I just prefer the more punky sound that Maiden had with Di Anno. Judas Priest, Saxon, Blue Oyster Cult, Anvil, Manowar Dio (or any band that RJD happened to be singing for), need I go on? A bit later on came bands like WASP who musically put out some really good stuff, even though most people remember them for controversies and their interesting shows. Dio was probably right when he said MTV killed metal. It didn't, but at the time it sure looked like it. Many of my friends began listening to other stuff: rap, acid/house etc. I instead needed more intensity at a time where hairstyle seemed to matter more than music output and since I had always been into punk, I naturally drifted into thrash metal.

Ha ha I can relate R&R all night living after midnight Judas P Paranoid BS Spirit of the radio Rush also annoying songs IMO (love all those bands) Same in the 80's when VH Woman & children's 1st and Grace Under Pressure by RUSH HATED both when they came out but find em brilliant in retrospect. It was so cool to hear Rush play the body electric on the CA tour. One of the 1st shows I seen was alive II cheap trick opening followed by Rush Hemispheres..

Gene is anything but 'hilarious'. that adjective only fits to one and only Ace. And Paul is bitching and complaining about everyone as you said but he is the spine and the driving power of the band, even when Gene was never there and lost time with Cher and Hollywood. He's the only non replaceable member of KISS. who would sing? Gene? c'mon.

EXCELLENT job. And I agree with 90% of your opinions. HOWEVER there´s a number of mistakes, some minor, some pretty big. 4:48 - That guy in the picture is NOT Ace Frehley. That´s the guitar for "NY groove", not the rocket shooting. 8:59 - That guy is NOT Neil Bogart. It looks more like it´s Giorgio Moroder (or a young Bill Aucoin?) 18:20 - "Maniline"…a ballad? 23:40 - Paul Stanley recording "Destroyer" on cocaine? wow! that´s pretty inaccurate! He never did drugs. He does drink, but not much. 32:28 - KISS selling dildos and condoms around "Rock and Roll over"? Nop. They would sell condoms around the Reunion tour, many many years later 38:53 - The infamous Tom Snyder interview is not circa "Alive II". Just look at the "Dynasty" costumes the are wearing Still, a highly recommendable video. 5 stars

Funny you mentioned Eddie there. I have constantly seen Maidens fans act all stuck up and bash other bands for being commercial. Yet they all ignore that the reason the band is still talked about is because they have a marketable image. Hell, I would even argue that Iron Madden are even bigger sell outs than Kiss.
