Decluttering one drawer, one cabinet, or one space at a time makes it easier to manage stuff on daily basis. To start decluttering, I empty out the space, decide what I want to keep, then evaluate the unchosen items for decluttering, donation, keep, or trash. Join me as I declutter, organize, and our home in this video today!

Regarding the KitchenAid attachments, you honor your mom by the way you invest in and love your kids. I would encourage you not to add any "shoulds" to your plate. Whether the pasta is homemade or from a box, you're feeding your family. :)

I am totally behind the 50% rule. I am getting older, and the back isn't as bendable as it once was. Knowing that everything in the bottom cabinets is placed right at the front of each shelf, with nothing hiding behind, is perfect for me.

I think you are a wonderful teacher - showing us through the process - the blocks - the pivoting and applying a new rule to help through the block - the emotional complication that can link to items - you are the best at showing that process and teaching us to get through it. Thank you 😊

I am 78 years old and married for 57 years. I have never owned a Kitchen Aid mixer. I have only had a hand held mixer. I’ve often thought I should probably buy one because it seems to do so much, but every video I watch everyone doesn’t want to keep theirs on their counter. I don’t understand why they want to drag this heavy appliance out every time they want to use it. It should be front and center and used to the max.
@findingaway5512
@findingaway5512 4 месяца назад
I have a KitchenAid mixer I do use it I don't use any of the specialty attachments. I definitely could live life without it though I do like having it I do have a handheld mixer though that I got a couple years ago for $5 and it's actually really nice to have that to do things instead sometimes. When I was growing up we never had a KitchenAid mixer we just had the handheld one. I definitely think of the handheld one is better for a lower maintenance option.

I keep mine on the counter. Only way I could see moving it to a cabinet in the future is if I didn't use it that often or if I was limited on counter space. 🤷‍♀️ I wonder if it's more of an aesthetic thing with most people online.

Love the 50% rule! I have been doing that for years but I call it halfies. When I was decluttering my shoes I had like 30 pair and I knew I probably only needed like 5 or 10 pair but I had a hard time getting rid of that much a once so I got rid of 1/2. I got rid of 15 pair. That rule works well. 💜👍

No, fire extinguishers don’t expire. I had our original fire extinguisher that came with the house in 1986. I just used it in 2021 (35 years later) and it worked just fine.

I know and some of the minimum mom videos Dawn talks about another creator that whenever they get a new appliance that use it every day that week. Maybe sometime you could carve out a week or two to intentionally use your KitchenAid attatchments repeatedly. Like a week that things aren't too busy or maybe in the summer time. That may help you realize oh yeah you really do love the fresh pasta and it really wasn't as hard mentally as he thought now that you have done it a couple times. And it becomes a regular in your life or maybe you use some of the attachments and you know you know what that's not for me I actually prefer either not eating those products or just getting them a different way or preping them a different way. I have two very nice pans one of them is a dutch oven that I was gifted for Christmas several years ago.... I haven't been able to mentally process using them yet we've had a lot of really busy seasons I had another baby life's just been crazy this year was supposed to be a good one so it was last year but it was chaotic still and I definitely really want it and see myself using it someday but the mental energy it takes for me to learn how to use right now. And I have plenty of easy things that can leave in a pain-free manner so I definitely think skipping items is a good route to go when you really are pulled in both directions.

I just discovered Prepared Hero…it’s a fire blanket that snuffs out fires in seconds. I bought several for my home and several for my daughters. Good to keep one by the garage and outdoor grill. By the time you find the fire extinguisher, figure out how to use it and hope it works you may have a fire out of control.

When I'm on the fence about items I want to use, I give myself a certain amount of time to start using it. I get rid of the more obvious stuff first. With less stuff it does become easier to use the fence items or be honest with myself that I'm not going to.

You can rethink how you use the acrylic cake stand. Your banana bread could go on it, muffins could be stacked nicely on it, cookies could also be stacked on it. It doesn't just have to be for cakes. Display your baked goods!

I don't have a large kitchen but I have decluttered it enough that the only thing I now have out on my counters is the microwave and whilst my cupboards aren't stuffed, it would be difficult for me to get to 50% capacity and still keep everything off the counters, which I love to be cleared as it definitely makes a small kitchen look and feel larger.

You can freeze a dollop of the pesto on a cookie sheet then pull it out, let it thaw for a minute so it releases from the cookie tray. Or use a silicone baking mat so it comes off easy. No need for the ice cube trays. We also do this with chiptole sauce.

Erica, well done on your declutter, that cabinet looks so much more functional. FYI Fire extinguishers usually last up to 10 - 12 years according to the UK National Fire Service website. You should examine them every year to check the safety catch and make sure they aren’t overly dinted as they are pressurised canister’s, even though they are made to be extremely durable. Anyway Erica, I’m glad you kept the kitchen aid pasta making attachments because it is so easy to make pasta using them; you really should try yours out. It’s a really fun activity to do with your children too, if any of them like cooking, because like you said homemade pasta is so healthy if made with good quality flour, it’s also creative, gives a sense of achievement and the kids get to eat the yummy results of their efforts. Also, my reason for wanting you to keep it, if I’m being really honest, is partly because I know the full set of three rollers and cutters is about £180 in the UK and I imagine it’s near that price for them new in the US too, so you might have regretted it if you’d decluttered them before you even tried using them. I know we shouldn’t keep stuff just because it cost money though.

Good job letting go of the acrylic cake stand/server. We often just use a large bowl if we want to cover a cake or other baked goods and the dome takes up a lot of real estate. You’ve inspired me to go through my kitchen today. It is a pleasure to work in there when my cupboards are not full to the brim. I have the same decision struggle with my Bosch mixer attachments.

Your kids are at the age that they might really love to make pasta or do some cooking with those attachments for the kitchen aid. Sometimes a fun thing like that, even if only used a few times with kids is worth it. Or you could start a new tradition and make pasta with the kids on a certain day of the year. I know they say to store lids on your containers but really, those plastic containers would take 1/4 the room if you stacked them and the lids with them separately.

A great way to start to use those kitchen aid accessories or any other gadget is to stop and book a day & time on your device for the upcoming week to use one unused gadget and then spend a few minutes to find a recipe to make with that gadget. Hello, Erica. Yes fore extinguishers so have expiration dates. Please do not try to use one that has expired, it can cause worse damage. For grease fires, candle lit fires or fires on the stove, a "fire blanket" is so much easier to extinguish the flames and reusable after each use. Please look into a fire blanket to keep near your stove or under the kitchen sink. Lovely video as usual! Have a blessed day!

I think the Kitchen Aid boxes are taking up what The Minimal Mom calls “valuable real estate.” Just like when the bar closes, you don’t have to go home (or to the donation center), but you can’t stay here! 😆 I suggest storing any bakeware, gadgets or accessories in a bin in the basement or pantry closet. (I do this.) Keep all of the items you use regularly accessible. I also suggest putting platters in one of those bins you often use & create a “drawer” in the cabinet.

If the extinguishers are still in the green on the gauge, they are still good.

Check with the state requirements/regulation of landlords where you live to see If your landlord is responsible for replacement fire extinguishers or if it is your responsibility.

Personally if i had your walk-in storage room I would put the extra kitchen aide attachments into that area in a bin, At a different season in life you will use them so keep them.

50% less good idea and well done Erica 👏 Thanks for sharing your "sit with it" and fence processes. Are all the kitchen aid items in that one place now? Good job Andy fixing under the sink.

I would donate it. If you really want to learn to make homemade pasta you can buy it again. Right now isn’t the right season it seems. I don’t know your mom but I think you have more on your plate than she did when she was able to fit in making pasta. Also, I would let go of things that make you feel guilt when you look at it. I love how you talk all these things out loud to us. Many of us struggle mentally with all these thoughts. ❤

I was hoping you kept that cake plate coz i bought one last summer and STILL havent used it! I dont even do layer cakes but I liked the chip & dips aspect because I usually cook 1 big dinner a month for my kids & grandsons. Cook & They Will Come is my experience. I make it on a third Sunday usually. Otherwise time goes by fast and I never see them. Yes, its all for selfish reasons.

take the fire extinguishers to your local fire station, they can tell you if they are still good or need to be replaced.

If the fire extinguishers are full it is still good. I have heard if they are not full...you can have the fire dept fill them.

The fire extinguishers should be easily accessible. In an emergency, you don’t have time to search for them or try to remember if you still have them. You have space under the sink,put them there in front, perhaps behind the divider, where they won’t be in the way, but easy to grab.

Fire extinguishers do not expire and can be refilled. Easy access front of cabinet or attach to a wall or outside of cabinet is best.
