Kitten Season Brings Joy - and a Little Sadness

It's been a few weeks since we last saw you, but Kitten School is busier than ever with a house full of fosters of all ages. With Kitten Season in full swing, foster parents are in more need than ever. The local shelters and rescues receive hundreds of cats and kittens every week, and there's just not enough space to house them all. It can be really hard knowing there's so much need and not enough resources, but we just have to try our best to help the kitties we can.
In this video, you'll meet some of our current fosters, including Clara, who has come down with a severe case of ringworm, and Henry, a two month old kitten who we trapped during a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) outing. TNR can go a really long way to helping reduce unwanted kitten populations, and it is something I am very committed to doing in my community. We also honor a very special little boy, five-week old Genta, who stole our hearts in the few short weeks that he was with us.
There's a lot of hurt and anger in our world, and taking care of each other in little ways can be a way to find some peace. For me, knowing that all these kitties need my care makes feel good when there is so much heartbreak in the news. It's easy to feel helpless sometimes, but making the difference in the life of one person or animal, even in a small way, is very powerful.

Hi Caroline, Oh! The Problems that are possible! Well, I think that Misery is compensated by Joy, and it wasn't more than two or three weeks after I lost a Rescue whom the Family said had stopped eating. I think I may have been too clumsy with the Syringe and got some Goats Milk in the poor things lungs. Ooops! It's probably a bit harder when you can blame yourself, but I tried to help, but Learning from Experience is a road strewn with wreckage. But, yeah, two or three weeks later the Family with Healthy Cats dropped off Gloria! She is now 7 Months, and Long and Lithe and so beautiful I'll just sit and watch her move around the house, play, groom herself, all while being a Vision of Beauty! And it's not like I'm not already spoiled with my 3 Boys, Franky being a Show in himself (Blue with Tuxedo Markings and the Mildest Temperament that has effected my entire menagerie. Keep Trooping Caroline! You're a Hero!

Awww I hope Clara will be okay. I agree with you on spay and neuter. I had the colony I feed TNR 3 years ago. Sorry for your loss.. Poor kitten. I didn't know that about kittens. My Lily girl passed away last week on the 18th. She was a former stray that followed me home in 2019 . I opened the door and she walked inside. She was a really good cat.

Very sorry for your loss. It's terrible losing a cat at any age let alone a kitten. The cat we lost to FIP several years ago was one of the worst experiences of my life. On a lighter note, I keep dreaming of finding a snow white kitten some day. This week I saw a stray white cat along the road, but he or she disappeared into the woods and hasn't been seen since. I keep an eye out just incase this cat comes back. At the very least, I'll do TNR if I can. We don't have many stray cats where I live, but a few more than usual have been popping up here and there including a black cat that pays us a visit a few times a week. This cat appears to be totally wild so we're keeping an eye out to see what can be done.

Good Luck getting your Pure White Cat! I had wanted a Blue Cat, or a Tuxedo, and then I was Blessed with meeting a little Blue Tux in a Parking Lot.... people drop off kittens in swanky high end parking lots where they think affluent women shop, because that is the Demographic most likely to take kittens home, but I was there first! I also have a weakness for Calicos, and one was given to me as a present. So, yeah, good luck with getting your White Cat!

@@1940limited Have you ever looked for a white cat in a shelter? Some white cats suffer from congenital deafness. I saw some of them on Turkish Channels. If they are stray cats, their lives must be extremely hard. There was a Danish Channel called "Deaf Darlings". I'm interested in that topic, because I was a teacher for deaf students/pupils.

@@bribg423 Somewhere I read pure white cats can have weak immune systems and other problems. Apparently the skin pigmentation of multi-color cats is part of what makes them healthy but not all white cats have health problems. Kitten school had a litter of white kittens a few years ago, but I'm too far away from her to hook up. We already have 5 cats, but if a white kitten came along, I'd be tempted.

Oh, Bridgman, be careful about White Cats, as there is a significant chance they might be Deaf. Here, this is a Copy and Paste I found: "Deafness is far more common in white cats than in those with other coat colours. According to the ASPCA Complete Guide to Cats, "17 to 20 percent of white cats with nonblue eyes are deaf; 40 percent of "odd-eyed" white cats with one blue eye are deaf; and 65 to 85 percent of blue-eyed white cats are deaf.""

THANK YOU for all you do for these lovely cats and kittens. I'm doing the same in Orlando, Florida. Right now, I have my three resident cats, one resident dog, and FOURTEEN foster cats/kittens. It's a good thing I have a big house, lol. Also, please know that I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

Awww..I'm so sorry about Genta...we have a new rescue and she looks a lot like him. Her name is Iris and we adore her. I so appreciate all you do for these furbabies. I can tell it's your passion. I so wish we had spay neuter laws where I live. We do thankfully have a trap/neuter/release program and many dedicated volunteers who take care of the feral colonies. There is much joy to be found in helping these babies.

Hi Dinahsoar, I think the best help the Local Governments could provide would be to significantly subsidize Spay and Neuter operations. Where I am, local Kennel, an Animal Welfare Organization that won the bid to become a Community Kennel and instantly started Euthanizing left and right, turning their original high minded goals and objectives into a sad joke, well, they offer $40 Dollar coupons, when the typical bill for getting a Cat through the Operation and the Shots they need is close to Four Hundred Dollars. It is like owning a Cat is a Luxury now, when, traditionally, having Pets was a pleasure that even poor Families could enjoy, and however much children might suffer under poverty, being able to have a companion cat can put a Halo around their childhood experience. Yeah, there are complete School Grades where I remember nothing from school, but there's a cloud of memories of my childhood cat -- petting her, feeding her, but mostly walking the fields and forests with her, she never more than 20 feet away whenever I would turn around a look for her.

I have a neighbor that absolutely kills me they have at least 10 cats that are theirs they are inside outside and they don't get them fixed and they don't feed them adequately I keep calling but the local chapters here aren't doing anything to help because he just says they're not his and they can't catch them. It's gotten to the point where starving ones have taken out two ducks that I was raising that are on the endangered list my foster cats never bother them so I know they must be starving. Wondering if you had any advice?
