KK's Priest : The Sinner Rides Again - Album Review - Now Spinning Magazine 

An insightful review Phil. I also think the band is finding their own sound and original vibe with this second album. Having said that, to me K.K. Downing was the musical driving force of Judas Priest and after 40 years in JP, we would be shortchanged if that seminal and iconic sound he created and that is loved by so many, was not present in K.K.'s new band. As a longtime Judas Priest fan, I am happy we have two bands to enjoy, and at the moment, I give the edge to K.K.'s Priest. Not a small feat.

The first KK album was good, this second one is a bloody classic. Riffs galore and Ripper’s voice is on fire 🤘

Great review, Phil. I got this on both CD and vinyl. I like it much better than the first album, because there is so much more variety, especially with the light and shade. I sure hope Ken and co. do a USA tour. This is to me the best new band that I must see live.

love this album so much! For me it is so much better than any JP album since Painkiller! And also better than the new JP track!(which I also really like by the way) KK was for me so much the sound of them!! And this album show us all how much!!?

Wonderful review! I’m a big fan of both KKs Priest albums. Great point with regards to Purple/Whitesnake/Rainbow. I thinks it’s great to have both Judas Priest and KK putting out such killer music in 2023! 🤘🏼

I'm glad you revisited this album Phil. I was of much the same opinion as you until I saw the band live last week. Then I gave it some more time and on the headphones and it really struck me much more. Ken has needed to make his mark, while watermarking his history in the sound of KK's Priest. I hope the next album will drop the references to previous song titles, to stand on its own more and I hope it has a 'The Hellion' style intro next time. My only worry is, have you ever heard Halford, Tipton and Downing being interviewed? They talk in cliches all the time! All of them! My concern is that Ken will continue down that road. In fact, for me, the strength of 'Firepower'was that it ditched all the cliche and parody and was just a set of strong Priest songs. KK could do well to consider that, going forward. Lastly, I don't think it's coincidence that 'Panic Attack' was released last week, some 6 months before the release of 'Invincible Shield'. It smacks of more pettiness from the Judas Priest camp, to derail the positive reviews from KK's PRIEST's first full UK and Europe tour, which saddens me a bit. Time to let the split go and function independently of each other, unless anything changes to bring the parties back together again. I bet you are desperate to get a KK interview now though, huh Phil?

Great review. JP is my all time favorite band (KK, Glenn, Rob, Ian + drummer). But you can hear KK´s influence in Priest on the KK´s Priest albums. And you can hear Ritchie´s influence in the JP right now. KK is more oldschool metal and new Priest is more power metal. And if I compare KK and Aj with Ritchie and Sneap and I saw both live, KK + AJ sound much better than Priest now! The new KK´s Priest is great, i would give it a 9/10 the debut was a 8,5/10. But my favorite song is Return of the Sentinel from the debut, which has some child in time feeling in it. And I loved 70/80ies Purple!

Phil you do such a great job explaining things as you do have a talent to draw the listener/ viewer in. I bought the "transparent" orange vinyl from napalm records. Was disappointed that it was translucent instead of transparent but still very cool looking. I dropped the needle and listened for a few minutes.Maybe it was because for 2 plus months I have been exclusively listening to Dokken but I stopped playing the record. This pressing didn't seem as good sounding as the first album as it seemed thin so I haven't gone back yet to give it a chance. I will drop the needle sometime again in the next couple months. I loved the first album Sermons of the sinner so I'm sure once given the chance I will enjoy this one. Wish it would have included the CD like the first release. Thanks brother.

Great review Phil!! Well said about being in the frame of mind to want to listen to something. Enjoy it while we can...and I think sometimes I'm a little old for full on heavy rock n roll!

Excelent review of excellent music. This music has power. As some have noticed this is not the music for everyone.

Åkerfeldt’s voice is quite a contrast Phil. That great soft vocal he has and the contrast of that demonic belch he has when in death metal mode. That performance at Wacken Carnage ‘05 is sublime

Thoroughly enjoyed this review, I intend to go and buy both KK priest CDs. I’ve got a turntable, but I must be honest, I like to hear the whole album in one hit without having to turn the vinyl over.

Great review Phil. I believe you nailed it with the idea that we have two wonderful bands to now love. I also prefer the second album. However, what turns me off a bit is not the music at all. It's KK's inability at this point in time to leave the Priest sour grapes behind. He's got a great band making great music...move on and stop whining about why Priest won't take you back. Killer second album KK. Here's hoping the music and the band continue to grow. Again, I agree with you Phil, album three will be their true stamp on metal music...their way. 👍

Totally agree Phil it's good but not loving it. Needs to get the chip off his shoulder. Ritchie Faulkner didn't need copy Priest song titles for his Elegant Weapons album

Both albums were a bit underwhelming IMO . I've been a Priest tragic since there inception but Rippers vocals just don't do it for me.

Thrash metal doesn't appeal to me. I still think old Priest is best Priest. Just sayin

I’m disappointed with the album. A lot of the tracks don’t actually seem like songs, they sound like ideas for various songs just pasted together (verse and chorus riffs thrown together with jarring transitions). I find the lyrics are also pretty cringey and I’m someone who can usually totally embrace cringey lyrics, but only if they’re sung with a clear sense of fun (eg. Gamma Ray’s Heavy Metal Universe), not with the seriousness that Ripper delivers these ones.
