It is damascus steel so it has two different types of steel that are folded and forged together into a pattern. Then when you etch it in acid, the two steels are etched at different rates and the pattern is revealed.

@@StarkKnives so you can make specific patterns in the metal depending on how you fold the metal while forging it?

Yep! There are a lot of awesome patterns people make. You can just look up damascus patterns and see some examples.
