I'm learning to be a knifemaker bit by bit. This video describes how some practice projects are going. Comments and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Great work! We all start somewhere. Watch lots of videos on knife making. Ask lots of questions and wrap those bolsters in tape to avoid scratching them. Blue painters tape works well, 2 or 3 layers... If you want the glue to really stick well, roughen the heck out of the mating surfaces(metal and plastic) (scratch it with a file or really coarse sand paper)

One thing I don't think i explicitly mentioned: Label your scales. left right, up down, front back. Because if you mix them up or turn them around things get weird and it might take you a while to figure out why.

Lizard By way of a simple explanation on your hole size dilemma, It's all physics. drilling causes heat, heat causes expansion. G-10 drilling causes a LOT of heat, therefore a LOT of expansion? If you drilled a hole in G-10 and left the bit in the G-10 until it cooled, you'd find it almost impossible to remove the bit? When the G-10 cools it contracts( shrinks) thereby tightening it's grip on the drill bit. I always drill my holes at least .002"-.003" larger than my pin stock, BUT that's ONLY in my scales, whether they be G-10 or Wood. Wood will do the same thing, however wood will eventually split if the pins are too tight. I'm sure I could have said all of this with less words, but you get the idea. Thanks for listening. Keep making those videos.. God bless. Oh, I do the same thing with the superglue. One last thing,. As you drill each hole, push a pin through it, this will keep all the holes lined up while you drill the rest of them. Dave Pappy Dave's Knives In business since 1966 Pennsylvania
