@@christheghostwriter Thank you. You are a good skeptic. RU-vid won't let me post links. But I will talk about one of Tyson's fictions that you can easily verify. Neil's Bush and Star Names story was an account of President Bush's 9-11 speech. This tale was a standard part of Neil's routine from 2006 to 2014. He has Bush bragging that his Christian god is better than the Muslim God. He quotes Bush as saying "Our God is the God that named the stars!". Tyson called Bush's 9-11 speech "an attempt to distinguish we from they." Bush's actual 9-11 speech was titled "Islam is Peace". A call for tolerance and inclusion, it was delivered from the Islamic Center of Washington D.C. on September 17, 2001. In the fall of 2014 Sean Davis challenged Neil to produce this speech. Of course Neil could not. But that did not phase him. He informed Davis: "One of our mantras in science is that the absence of evidence is not the same as evidence of absence." But then the story started to trend. It even appeared in outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post. With a great deal of art twisting Neil admitted he had confused Bush's eulogy for the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts with his 9-11 speech. And he apologized to Bush. The Bush and Star Names story is one of a number of false histories Neil has spread. Neil is also a source of bad math and wrong science. I suspect the man spends more time on his wardrobe than he does striving for rigor and accuracy. It's very said more people don't notice.

Yeah, if you want one light to be seen reliably it has to be on that frequency because it scatters less and can be perceived more easily if conditions aren't ideal, the same reason the Golden Gate bridge in S.F. is painted that color.

@HopDavid
@HopDavid 4 месяца назад
Over the years Neil's routines have had five false histories attacking religion. The above video was recorded about a year after Neil was busted for his Bush and Star Names story. This was a tale Neil incessantly repeated from 2006 to 2014. In the wake of 9-11 he has Bush bragging that his Christian God is better than the Muslim God. Tyson called Bush's speech "an attempt to distinguishe we from they." Stands to reason, right? We all know that Hate-Thy-Neighbor Republicans uses tragedy to sow division and hatred. Sadly for Tyson, Bush's actual 9-11 speech was titled "Islam is Peace". It was a call for tolerance and inclusion delivered from the Islamic Center of Washington D.C. on September 17, 2001. Sean Davis challenged Neil to produce the speech he described. He could not but that didn't phase him. He informed Davis that absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. But then the story started receiving more attention, even appearing in The Washington Post. Neil was eventually forced to admit that he had confused Bush's eulogy for the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts with his 9-11 speech. He acknowledged that Bush hadn't tried to set Christians above Muslims and apologized to Bush. And there are four more fictions that Tyson and his following uses to attack believers and faith. I am hoping Neil Tyson and his cult of personality will become widely known for the their stupidity and dishonesty. That includes you, @brogen802. Look in the mirror and see someone with a devastating lack of critical thinking skills.

Unless democracy criminalizes people who oppose it, it won't work. Why do governments keep allowing religious terror outfits, anti-gay people, anti-science ministers and the like to participate in democracy? They are only free to believe what they believe - not impose laws through public offices. All political factions of that description should be disqualified from vote.

It's fun talking about a meeting with aliens, but it won't happen. It's so improbable, it's not worth serious consideration. Look at it this way: If it were a one in a million chance we discover a high-tech civilization in our solar system, that's within the bounds of possibility. Now, consider if this 1/1,000,000 chance is 1,000,000,000 times farther away. What about 1,000,000,000 times that? That's about a realistic view of the distances. Everything is very far.

Eh... it all depends on how you measure it. We do share 98% genetics but it's not sequenced the same way. If you segment our DNA, you can find 98% commonality but if you compare it in their natural sequences then it gets closer to 90%.
