When I first watched this and found out that there was an unknown creator of KITT, I remember the episode focusing on his opposite, KARR. How Devon explained to Michael that KITT was not the prototype rather KARR was, and that Wilton Knight had created him. Further, while Wilton was failing in health and Michael was convalescing with his new face, Devon took it upon himself to construct a safer vehicle which resulted in KITT. I get how Graham fits into that space because Devon didn’t mention HOW he went about it and with who. Devon was a smart man but he was not a genius like Wilton and for an AI as advanced as KITT, you need a genius. Brilliant idea. This show could have been a lot better if they just stuck to one form for KITT as opposed to multiple transformer like changes.
I don't think they stuck with the source enough or bothered to look too deep into it, people involved with KITT's development were mentioned or showed up in at least the Goliath episodes, Junkyard Dog, Deadly Knightshade, and Killer KITT. Guys like Dr. Browning and Dr. Von Vorman. Devon and Wilton both seemed like levels of management on the project, but capable enough to have their hands on the technical details of what was going on. I just think they didn't have to go so far in retconning the new character, among other things. Of course, KARR himself was a retcon and they did things like that on the original show all the time, and while nothing in the pilot expressly precluded there being a prototype, the way they act and talk about things makes it seem like everything they are doing and about to experience is for the first time, which at the time of pilot, it was (I did like the slight Garthe allusion about Michael's resemblance to Wilton however, that ended up being pretty prescient). There's also the recycling of the same actors in completely unrelated roles, but that was common in those days. I did find it unforgivable that they'd invent a new villain as the "real" mastermind behind the events of the pilot just to milk its drama again with Michael facing constant danger from his past life still being out there, and then not only discard what was purported to have been a pivotal player in the creation of Michael Knight in a textbook bad-guy-of-the-week episode with no further mention ever again, but then invite John Vernon back in the truly awful Voodoo Knight finale in a throwaway role in a throwaway episode. So it's hard to judge what they did with KR2008 too harshly.
@@KalOrtPor yeah I remember they would even recycle the damsel in distress actress of the week for another damsel in distress in a later season for the original show. I know people complain about the transforming in the new show, but I really don’t think that has anything to do with the primary problem. If a good story was curated, the transforming would have been accepted, and I don’t think the writing was bad at all if you look at the show as it’s own thing. The pilot episode actually got good ratings that greenlit the actual show. The problem is that they actually got the tone and themes right in the pilot episode, and them completely trashed it for the show and just turned it into another Cop/CSI/Government show with a talking car. The original show centered around “one man can make a difference” and in the pilot the graimans, who keep to themselves, were in trouble and needed one man to help them. The original also had anti establishment themes, and the pilot kept that feeling. The show also kept some anti establishment themes, but it can be hard to portray that when your entire show centers around a government agency. Yes I know Devon had FLAG, but it was a skeleton crew of 3 people, 4 later with RC. The show did come together towards the later half when they pretty much eradicated their entire cast and left a skeleton crew of 4 people. They managed to bring back anti establishment themes a lot more when they used KARR as the transition point from the government show to a show that closer returned to the “one man can make a difference” mantra. While I didn’t like KARR as a dumb transformer, I actually enjoyed the storyline of the 4 people working against their government employers to save KITT. Didn’t matter, the show already set a bad impression and the damage was done, plus NBC has high expectations. That being said I really enjoyed the later episodes and wished they could have kept that going into a season 2 because I personally think they found their footing with the last 5 episodes. Oh and if they had just done that from the beginning, the show would have been both better and cheaper, with less series regulars to pay.

Also I mean, didn't Wilton Knight also take part of it? Devon: "6 months before we found you in the desert, near to death, Wilton activated what was probably the most crowning invention of his life" Michael: "KITT" Devon: "No, KARR, K A R R" Doesn't this imply he was building the tech as well? It would of been better if maybe they said Charles worked on the AI, a partner, not the whole car itself.
yeah 3 people built kitt, under Devon Miles, and Wilton Knight built the prototype KARR. So they got that wrong here with this straight away. Maybe if they had him as one of the original techs who was part of building the originals, that would have worked better. Or better still got April back, ( actress who played bonnie retired long ago from acting sadly)
@@The2Coolest2 not only Wilton Knight but devon had a hand in KITT'S personality. Devon was the reason KITT had a Classy Calm sophisticated demeanor about him. Now I don't have any solid proof but come on, KITT could have been Devon's son
What happens when you spend more time talking about the show instead of understanding why the original was so successful? Too much corporate interference, otherwise, could have been a good reboot. And you needed the Hoff.
Whoever wrote This show must not have been a big fan of the original I've heard them say several times in the promo when it first came out they found a loophole in who invented k.i.t.t. but thats not true in the episode junkyard dog they discussed that it was a team of 3 scientist from three different parts of the world that came together to design and build it whoever wrote this show should have been fired any casual Knight Rider fan would have known that
Just recently re watched the 2 hour movie Knight rider 2008 and whenn mike traceur asks Michael Knight will I ever see you again I keep thinking David's response would be "I would have returned if you didn't kill my show you stupid, stinking, lousy….

Yeah, the original car had a nice, impressive looking dashboard. The car from this reboot had a iPad glued in the center with a night light above it. Talk about weak sauce.
I loved the Original Knight Rider.This new show would have been good if had stuck to original formula. Though I never got to see all the episodes of new show.. Wonder how to go about getting Original DVDS of Original show. Then they had a movie where part of KITT was in a woman,and KITT was in a new Red body, thought that might might be opening for new show but never happened. Wouldn't mind getting the Dvds of this new show though wasnt thrilled with it transforming to truck and from what saw a robot
Fortunately, all episodes, minus the pilot, are on the free NBC app (not Peacock). Granted you have to watch commercials. DVD sets of the original series are available on Amazon. I bought it for my son for Christmas last year. You're also talking about Knight Rider 2000, and it was intended to be a reboot of the series, but never happened. Part of KITT wound up in a critically wounded female police officer. Why they felt the need to kill Devon off in that movie was beyond me. It was such a senseless, meaningless, death, just like what Guinan told Tasha Yar in "Yesterday's Enterprise." Anyways, KR2000 is also available on DVD and the original Knight 4000 red car is actually owned by Bob's Prop Shop in San Antonio, where the movie was filmed.
@@brettcooper3893 Yes I watched the Knight Rider episode of wherr part of Kitt ended up in wounded police officers head, surprised that movie was never made into a series .. As for Knight Rider 2000 still want to see the whole series since they took it off the air. The Red Kitt( Knight rider 4000) was different and might have been interesting if had continued
I'm always had huge fan of Knight Rider's theme and TV series from 80s and I still have DVDs and toy car from KITT. But I'm not sure about the 2008 new knight rider show, too much overacting and green screen and too much CGI too.
They never did answer the one question? Where is the original AI AKA Knight Industries two thousand AKA OG kitt ? Basically where is he in the Knight Rider universe? Erased from existence or locked up in storage?
in the 90's movie Knight Rider 2000, the knight industries two thousand got dismantled and a few parts were sold. but it came back later in the movie with a new body and it was called the knight industries four thousand
@@VVV953 yeah i dont consider the movie cannon period since in the movie guns were outlawed but in the pilot movie for the new series they weren't and they were clearly used. but i like to think kitt is either with Micheal or still with flag in some sort of way. i also have a theory that charles used kitt and his parts to make a upgraded version of him but wasnt able to save his personality, his voice or memory. i like the first idea better in the long run personally.
They wasted the franchise name of this show on this series as it spent way too much time gawking at young woman in skimpy outfits and boring 20 something actors with no character depth and convoluted boring story ideas. People want the HOFF AND KITT "Anthony Daniel's voice only!" (BLACK TTOP!!!) that's what they want! This show never took the time to understand that. They need someone to be like another Devon but no one will ever replace the late great Edward Mulhare. Rest in peace Mr Mulhare, we all miss you.
The reboot had potential if they would have stuck with the movie version, KITT's nano-skin paint and subtle changes are cool, and never went transformers with it. The formula would have worked to have Michael Knights son as KITT's new driver, Charles Graimen as the new Devon/ Face of the foundation and Sarah as the New Bonnie, Kitts mechanic. Michael Knight (Hoff) could have been the CEO/ Wilton Knight of FLAG. And it should have been "FLAG" not any association with the FBI/NSA that is a departure from the premise of knight rider, and yes the show did get there in the end before getting cancelled but it was to late and the damage was done. It should have been Flags mission from the beginning, because some times it is the government or officials that are "Above the Law". Flag was always a kind of a vigilante extra-governmental organization kind of like a privet investigator that foiled corrupt criminals and officials alike.
They said they created a character that created kit in the original shows they had a character they had four yep a total of four people team of four scientists built the technology for kit and I believe we find that out in the season 3 episode junkyard dog they didn't mention it at all and also the fact that they thought this would be a great success and everyone would love it and everyone hated it I feel like that's just kind of funny everyone hated this thing no one thought it was good yeah honestly even I hate it it's not a very good show just isn't I'm like the original Knight Rider like maybe if it wasn't meant to be Knight Rider it might work for that era but it it didn't work especially if it's trying to be some sort of successor tonight writer and look literally they said they were trying to fix a plot hole by adding another character that didn't really exist that the person that built kit really all they did was make more plot holes because that character did exist it was a team of four scientists that help build kit they mentioned it they mentioned the four people that built him in one episode and they said oh there's a plot hole we need to add another character and they did but they didn't need to all they didn't make it more confusing which again makes this even less Canon
