For some time now I have been looking for a very small set of waterpump pliers, something I could easily carry on a daily basis.
I came across these Knipex mini cobra pliers on FFX.co.uk and they fit the bill perfectly.
At 125mm long and 86 grams you can pop them into a pocket for EDC. In this review you can see an overview followed by a thorough testing in my workshop. They are very high quality and strong, I wasn't able to inflict any damage on them either.

As an hvac technician I’ve been using Knipex tools since about 1984 while stationed in Heilbronn FRG. I got a pair of small,raptor style, nail puller / tile nippers with uninsulated handles. I loved the quality of these. So about 1999 or so, I bought a pair of alligator pump pliers for about $35 US, that was unheard of expensive back then, Ioved them immediately. Much easier to adjust than the tradional Channel lock style, they NEVER slipped out of the channel with crazy pressure on them= No blood blister from a pinched finger, because the handles don’t touch each other when collapsed. The grip is great. The handles are non slip thin grips so they can easily fit in my pouch or pack without taking up too much space = space for other tools in my bag. Big fat bulky plastic handles may be ok if your in a shop environment, but not for any field techs. Then they came out with the lock position cobras, a few bucks more but I like them best. They are pricey but once your use to these tools, you just can’t go back to using lower quality tools again. They just seem to make our jobs easier, which is priceless. Also the coated handles are hot dipped, not a plastic slip on sleeve that eventually slide off, experienced only if you’ve owned a pair of the others.

I have the 100/125/150 mm sizes. By far the best for all purpose is the 150 mm one. It does not avoid any high torque work, a crossover of small and medium diameter fastener, has larger (serrated) teeth. Most of all, does not hurt my hand even when doing heavy duty work yet still small enough for EDC.

Just ordered the smallest smooth jaw, and ‘those’ - in a neat case. I’ll have them for my maintenance work - and haul them along on my Royal Enfield Himalayan adventures!

I could not find my previous Cobras, and so I just ordered another one! Well worth the money to have! I recommend them paired up with the wrench version as well. Equally superb!

Awesome demonstration, I just bought a set of Irwin groove joint pliers similar to these, but it looks like I might just have to buy this small pair as an extra!

Irwin pliers teeth are soft compared to these. Youll end up having to do dental work on them with a file and shape them back out. These knipex seem to hold up much longer.

I own several Leatherman tools, however, I actually carry a pair of Knipex 125 pliers and a Victorinox RangerGrip 79 knife in the same pouch. Lots more useful. The saw on the knife is great.

14 minute video and not one water pump tested on. lol. i kid. who'd ever thunk that one design change to the handles that's been made that way for 60+ years could generate so much torque? thanks for sharing. now im off to the interwebs to find a distributor in the U.S.

I just bought the 87.01.150 .. and they are absolutely petit going even smaller is not for me. I can take the 150 everywhere in my pants.i also bought the 250 and those are strictly for home use to big for everyday carry but the 150 are perfect and they where on sale perhaps because everyone buys the 125 ;-)

Have you seen the Knipex Cobra XS? they are only 4 inches long but bloody strong. I am going to get some for my EDC bag purely because I want pliers that wont break under a high load, that and Decent Multi tools all insist on locking blades so I want to stay legal.
