I feel like crochet is more fun for artistic, artsy items like toys, blankets, bags and fun hats. Knitting is better for a lot of clothing items because it stretches well and often fits nicer (sweaters, socks, fingerless mittens, leg warmers, etc). But that's my own personal preference.
@MarsellaFyngold
@MarsellaFyngold 5 лет назад
I feel like a lot of people would get that impression too from watching this. It is NOT at all an accurate representation of what you can do with knitting or the factors to consider that will affect your finished product in both knitting AND crochet. And yeah I know they cant squeeze that all into one video but they could touch on it better. Like ive seen crocheted sweaters and clothing items and the stretch and drape is all down to tension (which he kind of mentioned) but also hook size, and yarn selection. And for knitting there are SO MANY techniques to choose from! It's not all flat pieces sewn together but that's the impression this vid gives =/ uuugghhhn

@@MarsellaFyngold I both knit and crochet as well. But like I said, my comment was based upon my personal preferences. I, personally, find that crocheting is easier to get creative with because it is easier to create a variety of shapes and make sturdier, stiffer items. That makes it perfect for creating toys or funky items. When it comes to crochet clothing items, you can only get the same stretch that you do with knitting if you use a really loose stitch which makes the item less warm and more see through. But that's my own personal preference. I picked up knitting because I wanted to create more clothing items that I liked and I liked knitted clothing items.

I used to only knit for years, but when I started learning crochet in last spring it was SO much easier! My favourite thing in crochet when compared to knitting is that you only have one loop on your hook so unravelling accidents are nearly non-existent. I cannot count the times my knitting work has dropped off the needles. it's so frustrating! It's cool to be able to do both, as knitting is best for certain projects and crocheting for others.
@jeancrochets
@jeancrochets 5 лет назад
I totally agree with you. The reason I don't like knitting is because I keep dropping stitches and it unravels so much. I know with time I could get better but crochet is just so much easier to me so I'm sticking to that.
@emily3091
@emily3091 5 лет назад
I agree dropping the work and trying to pick up all the stitches is awful
@SadisticSenpai61
@SadisticSenpai61 5 лет назад
It really depends on the person. I find knitting so much easier than croqueting - my biggest problem is tension. The needles hold most of the tension and the rest of it is just pulling tight when making a new stitch. But I've never been able to get the tension right for croqueting - my finger joints always end up aching and it's either too loose or too tight.

Knitting is much simpler than crochet really, when you first start and you can be making whatever you want rather quickly. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of it but I found it in the craft section of Walmart not long ago. It is put out by Coats and Clark.

It's not strange, in fact, it's a advantage to know both. I'm a knitter but I see the advantages of crochet. The thing is, we can't really compare which is better, they just have different things going for them, crochet is better for toys, solid items, items that needs some stiffness and bags, while knitting is better for stretching and garments with drape, like socks, gloves, sweaters, scarves, etc.

I do both. Self taught crochet for 10 years precisely because of Amigurumi and there was a custom piranha plant scarf I wanted to make. The most crochet I did was for the nyan cat rug/blanket on RU-vid, 600+ tiny squares. I only recently started learning how to knit and have to say it is much better than crochet for garments and hats, the stitches compared to crochet IMO are just much prettier, and things fit better than crochet, more stretch and more forgiving in the fit. Plus I've just learnt raglan top down sweaters and it's so much easier than seaming up, combined with colour work I'm just having so much fun making sweaters and making pixel character motifs on them. Having said that, crochet is really good for beginners, there's no loose stitches to worry about, the variations on the stitches are much easier to understand! And nothing beats magic circle to make an actual plushie.

in response to people who are asking for the pattern: I think the part of point is to show people that you don't NEED a pattern to make these sorts of things, I use to crochet things like this all the time and I never used a pattern, in fact I hated patterns because you have to be so meticulous on counting and keeping track of where you are and what you are doing or the whole thing gets messed up. granted as I grew I did learn to use patterns more and in leather-work, like I do now, patterns are so useful in insuring that you don't waste excess material and showing what the project will look like when it's done, but for this sort of project, I'd still rather not use a pattern, it gives and creates so much more creative freedom.

For Kint Amigurmi you'd have more possibilities using sock kniting needles, (a set of 4-5 needles set in a round) I'm in the middle of making a cute Knitted Fox. I also use to see alot of knitted patterns when this frist started becaming popular, but things quickly moved to being done with corchet. (I also corchet, and have had a lot of fun, but I think given enough time that knitting will be faster on basic patterns.)

I'm a fibre artist and I mainly crochet Amis, I'm not a fan of making blankets and clothes...too monotonous. I prefer how Amis look with crochet for sure (not just because of this video), also alot neater. I so wish I could design my own toys though, because I always rely on patterns, unfortunately. My mom is the knitter, but she only makes jerseys. Morgan, your dog is very cute and clever idea doing a balloon animal 😁 Vincent, yours is adorable too! Well done guys 😎👍

I both crochet and knit toys and sometimes mix the two together in a single toy. For babies or little kids who want the squishiness factor, I knit the toy. These are usually animals. For a doll that will be dressed, I always crochet it because then you have a firm base to dress the doll. And for the clothes? I knit them because then they have drape and sit more like actual clothes.

I crochet and listening to her explain how to decrease knitting and say "it's as simple as that" no. No it is not as easy as that. I tried knitting before I started hooking and I can't even cast on. Or even hold the needles 😂

And that's why both crafts are still around. I wish I could crochet but I CANNOT get my tension right. There are pros and cons to each craft. I love the cables I can create with knitting but I wish I could crochet for certain things like critters where I have to find a really good pattern on DPNs or translate from a flat pattern to DPNs and there aren't many patterns in general. I live with a crocheter and we always talk about the different things that are possible with each craft but they are both amazing!

I remember my attempt to learn how to knit. I ended up tying myself up. I spent a good minute or so untying myself😂 While I prefer to crochet I do suggest loom knitting for anyone who is lousy at proper knitting but still would like to knit.

Me neither!! I have an aunt that knits beautifully & has attempted to teach a couple times & I just cannot ): it’s so frustrating cause when they do it it looks so easy but when I try it I make a mess. Guess I’ll have to stick to my crochet xD not complaining, just wish I could do both.

I've leaned more towards crochet and I have a friend who's been doing a lot of knitting projects recently and we're always talking about the two. Also I have a knitting gran and used to have a crochet gran (which is why I learned both). So this video makes me really happy! ^^ Both dogs look sooo cute! And I never imagined the balloon animal method! Maybe if you stuffed him a bit tighter he might stay up easier?

No way! I have dabbled in crochet and knitting for a bit the last few years, never really finished a project, because I was to impatient. last week I decided to make a scarf using small patches squares trying different patterns, excepting squares that show my progress and that show flaws. For now, mostly knitting, but I am planning to make a few squares using crochet. And to combine the two styles in one scarf. As I was brainstorming,I was wondering, could the dronken grandma stitch also be made with needles? Squares can be made using both. Is there a stitch that can be produced by both. For example the chain in crochet looks quite a bit like the cast on for knitting. So I started to make the chain with my hands hoping to continue with the knitting needles, but that didn't seem to work. As I am a newbie, I might be going all over the place, because I don't have the experience, I don't know the boundaries of each type. I am curious as to the overlap
