Don't you worry what people say! No one has to like everything everyone does. That's the beauty of RU-vid, there's something for everyone. It's pretty petty of people to be rude, write about others (their looks, voices, etc.) when people do such a nice thing for the rest of crafting community by sharing their time, homes and projects. I appreciate the time you put in to including us. Thank you! What shawl/ cowl are you wearing in these episodes? I think your blonde is beautiful. Do it until you don't want to. All the best, Kimberly

Thanks so much!! Totally agree with you about there's something for everyone, and wooo, the pettiness! Hmm, it is either The Golden Hour by Andrea Mowry, or Woven Chevrons by Stephen West. I pretty much wear those two on rotation lately. ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Shannon! I decided a little over a year ago to stop coloring my hair - I was 50 and just hated that I was putting chemicals onto my hair - even though I used mild, not professional-grade products. And I could pass three months between color treatments. My grey is mostly on top and front. It is not a skunk line. It’s grown about 3” in the year so I probably have another year to 18 months to grow out all the colored parts. My hair is healthy and thick and that’s more important to me now. I think age shows more based on skin health than hair color so I’ve focused much more on skin and less on hair. It helps to have a hairdresser who is supportive.

Hi Shannon! I really enjoy watching you do you, for your vlogmas... whatever music you choose and if you show your coffee pouring, I enjoy it all, since it's just nice to share the daily lead-up to Christmas or whatever holiday one might celebrate... ignore the complainers... they can do their own "perfect" vlogmas if they don't like yours, lol. Choosing to colour or not colour your grey is so totally personal... but know that you are definitely in good company if you choose to let your natural grey or white shine on!! Personally I love (LOVE!) seeing women (and men) allowing the natural colour change happen, and for years I have been allowing my hair's natural bits of white to be where they want to be (I'm only a few years older than you) - I think as long as your hair looks heathy and shiny and the cut is flattering, then the colour or grey or white or whatever comes out, is really nice... I'm personally loving my white that comes in around my face, but it's only important if you like that look... Your neighbourhood looks so nice and yes those commuting views are really lovely for you to enjoy on your daily drive. Enjoy your lead up to Christmas! Cheers, Judith 💜

I stopped dying my hair about two years ago and I’m 45. I love it. It naturally highlights my dark brown hair. Plus I’ve been told I look younger and I’m short, so I love that it makes me feel like a “grown up” at work and DO have experience ;) Go ALL IN!

OK, I have watched you from day one and not commented but your questions about going gray have pulled me out of my shell!! I started letting my natural color grow out a year ago, the growing out process is not for the faint of heart, I felt very unattractive during that process. Now that I am all natural I love it, my hair is healthier and softer and styles so nicely now and I get compliments from people all the time. I have changed the colors I wear to winter colors, I have silver and brunette hair with green eyes. The silver is mostly around my face. Give it a try it is so freeing and you can always change your mind. I love your channel, ignore any nasty people...they are just jealous! Merry Christmas, Diane in SC

At about 40 I cut all my hair off (yes all of it) and as it grew back I decided not to dye it anymore. I'm 44 with not a lot of grey but they are there. I think the gradual transition like that is natural and looks great. I hope to one day go all grey but I'm not sure, my grandmother had dark hair until she was in her 80's naturally.

Hi Shannon, I LOVE your vlog - haters goin' hate. Also - you take the time and considerable effort to produce a podcast and those who don't have no right to negatively comment. I like the music and how different it is. Remember people generally negatively comment and not positively comment, SO I am making an effort to make my positive comments on all the blogs I watch. I watch you blog/vlog regularly and really enjoy it. So keep as you are - you are wonderful! I am knitting the Woolens and Nosh DK (not quite right skein) Advent sock too but mine other way round - I started with the pink/peach end. I am way behind but enjoying the knit. Have a safe and lovely trip - Merry Christmas!

About 50 I went natural and love it. Skin color changes so as you age what suits us best also changes. Myself I went with low lights that eventually I phased out. Good luck with whatever you choose. Own it and the confidence will be admired.

I had been coloring my hair for years, but knew my natural hair color was a stunning white! I really got tired of the hassle and expense of coloring with highlights, and finally at the age of around 55 let it go, while having the hairdresser blend in some blond, and within no time it was grown out. It’s sooooo freeing not to have to keep up with the coloring. It was a shock initially to get used to, but so glad I did it! BTW, have loved all of your music! Don’t sweat it! ❤️

Thank you for your time in sharing your pre Christmas and end of semester life. Nice to see New York from your side of the Hudson. For what it’s worth I finished coloring my hair when I retired from 30+ years of teaching high school math, interestingly the gray isn’t dominant 7 years later. I wish I stopped earlier. 😊Happy holidays from New Hampshire!🎄

I am so curious which one is your hate watch! lol I celebrate winter solstice and yule, not christmas, and have enjoyed your eclectic holiday music, excepting perhaps one in #2 ;) - but then I never expect to like every little thing in what I watch or read (seems rather unreasonable to expect to!). I only watch a few vlogmas' and yours is my top fave; I watch two or three others intermittently. On hair: never bothered with tinting my hair (a med brown w natural highlights that are never seen bcs I avoid the sun :D), though have slathered on henna on occasion. I've let the grey have its way since it first appeared but it's taking its sweet time with the takeover; never thought of getting grey highlights - love that idea! I say go with hair color(s) that make you happy. Sending virtual scritches to your beautiful cats. Happy Knitting!

Hi Shannon, be a rebel and let the haters move along. I started going gray in my 30s with Cruella Deville streaks. Now I’m 60 and completely white. I didn’t color my hair because I knew I’d be too lazy to keep up with my roots and I hate that look. Have a Merry Christmas I look forward to another year of seeing your projects.

Aaron Devries is my ultimate favorite! “Once in Royal David’s City” & the other one by him. The first time I heard both songs were on your Christmas vlogs. Now, I listen to both throughout the Christmas season. The lyrics are very beautiful to listen to. 🎄🌟🕯️✨Definitely, stay blonde….its so pretty. I’m 56 & never had the patience to sit in the salon or dye/highlight my hair at home. I’m just letting my hair go grey…

I feel that when women start to turn gray, people begin to ask when they are going to retire. So I waited until after I retired to stop coloring my hair. My hair dresser gave me either low lights or high lights (I can’t remember which), during the process. I have a shorter hair style so it didn’t take too long to become all natural.

There’s only one Vlogmas I watch and it’s yours, but I agree with others when they say it’s hard to keep up, which is obvious based on the date of this comment 😜 When you started talking about going gray I just had to put a pause on the podcast and put in my comment here. I started turning silver (I used to call it gray until I was watching a podcast and saw someone call it silver and I thought that sounded so much better and in fact, was pretty awesome) when I was 40 and in my early 40s I was completely silver. I always had blonde brown hair through my early twenties (I think it was called something like dirty blonde or dishwasher blonde which sounds really gross if you think about it). I would sit out in the sun or on one of my local Santa Cruz beaches with lemon on my hair to make sure it was good and blonde. In my mid 20s to my early 30s I had my hair highlighted. I would say around 33 I stopped highlighting it due to the cost and needing to keep up with it. I remember when I was about 43 and working at the veterans administration hospital and one of my patients wives said “I love your highlights!” At that time I was completely silver, but I took that compliment and said “oh those, they are courtesy of my genetics and thank you”. I too had my colors done when I was about 21 or 22 but I can’t remember if I was a summer or a spring. I looked better in gold jewelry but now I look better in silver jewelry and have for several years. Honestly once my hair turned silver, a lot of colors that I never used to be able to wear I could wear now and they looked good on me. Of course I always want to look good but as I continue to age (I’m 60), I wear whatever brings me joy and makes me feel good. So go with whatever you want to do and own it!

I found your comments on going gray as someone with Spring coloring so interesting. I'd never considered the challenges of cool-toned gray hair with a warm-toned complextion. I look best with cool tones and wear silver jewlery. (I think I'm a Summer.) So, I never saw my gray "sparkles" as something I needed to cover. However, I can now see how that would be more difficult for someone who feels more themselves wearing golden colors. Regarding the music, I've enjoyed what you've used in the past. I like that it is distinct to your vlogmas, and I recognize it as "you." If you try finding new music to switch it up, my only request is to listen to it in headphones before using it. Sometimes I've had to bail on a vlogmas (not yours, other podcasts) because the music bounced back and forth between left and right ears, and that can be really disorienting.
@whiskyandwool
@whiskyandwool 8 месяцев назад
Oh that’s a good point about headphones! I usually use them to edit but I’m nearly deaf in one ear so I don’t know how effective they are for me to hear balance. I do try to level out all the clips though for continuity!! 😍❤️

I’ve been white haired for the past 40+ years! I bleached my hair for about 20 years and then realized the roots around my face were no longer brown. So I went rogue and let it go gray. It really isn’t gray-it’s white which I love. If I knew your email I would send you a photo. Let me know.

Honestly Shannon, , I think grey hair ages you by 10 years at least, and remember Kate Davies, she, like others i know in my community; I had no idea they dyed their hair,till they didn’t, I think as long as your dyed hair is not super dark and stark, it ok. I am lucky,as I am blonde and knock on wood ,I have not had to worry about grey hair,yet…, but some friends of mine stopped,and I think I would try both, you can always dye your hair again if you don’t like it natural, be open to both.
