Honestly I feel like if you rewrite a vintage pattern and essentially change 50%+ of the written form, then you can for sure sell it as your own. You are reworking something that essentially becomes "inspired" by a vintage design but is written for modern day knitting. Plus I would love this pattern! It's beautiful

I absolutely love that vest. I would love to make one and would definitely buy the pattern when you do it. I also think that you have changed it enough that it is now a different pattern. The original cardigan pattern was your inspiration.

I absolutely love how your turned the cardigan into a vest, it's so cute!! I think if you take the stitch pattern from the original pattern but calculate your own numbers for shaping and grading then it's 100% fine to sell it as your own pattern, especially if you cite that you were inspired by that specific vintage pattern. I also really want to knit that cardigan from Sari N - I'm interested to see how it turns out with the button band added regarding your concerns about the neck opening being so narrow because I would likely also knit size 1 or maybe 2

Beautiful vest! I hope you do share it. I want to stop all my WIPs to make this. 😆 My opinion is that if you have made changes to a pattern that probably no longer has a copyright, you should be good. Especially if it’s truly inspired and not copied. An example would be it being a vest, not cardigan. Another is if you did a different button band. Either way, beautiful work!
