I think this is by far the most common ashi waza in MMA

I agree with you. It's often an instinctive movement.

I am decent with Osoto Gari but sadly cannot get Kosoto very well , guess I´ll have to put to work that hikite hand detail.

Ko Soto Gake, in my opinion, is a risky throw. That's why the emphasis should be on moving around to the opponent's side and "lead with your hips" rather than extending a leg out in the hopes of hooking his leg. Thank you for your comment Nico.

@@welcomematstevescott I was taught to do right step with my foot kinda sideways while doing kosoto gake. But that left - right combined with that certain pinning you did on your left hand makes it more efficient and safer(especially doing the second step with the right foot to 'lock' uke s leg) amazing, thank you!!

im a year late but one thing that can also help is timing them stepping forward and then going for the kosoto or try to pull them into you and as they step forward you then drive them to their left and go for the kosoto. I clicked on this video because my dojo doesn’t teach the ogari like set up, my dojo uses the headlock, or under hook when using the kosoto, and im the only one that really uses the ogari like setup. They’re also a great combo, You can feint that step in for the ogari and quickly bring that lead foot behind them for the kosoto, one of my favorite combinations
