Kobe’s percentages all suffered throughout his career because of late shot clock bail out shots when the plays broke down, I watched nearly every lakers game for a 20 year period….. they both were responsible for the breakup, Phil played his part as well as management. Michael Jordan and LeBron James were born to play basketball. It’s crazy but everyone in MJ’s family is like under 6 feet (including all his brothers and his father) and of course we know the physical specimen LeBron has always been. MJ was the same. Why I respect Kobe so much though is because he was never blessed with top tier athletic gifts. Don’t get me wrong. He was more physically gifted than 99% of the population. But the NBA is the top 99.9999999% in the world. Kobe put himself as one of the top 10 to ever play the game because he BELIEVED he belonged there. He wasn’t even as gifted as McGrady or Vince Carter. But he willed himself to where he got and, very much like Steph, became legendary without the physical gifts of his peers. This is also what makes a guy like Luka so special.

As a superstar athlete, when a team is paying you 180 million over six years you should be in shape. Kobe did what a professional does, work hard and perfect his game. Shaq would use the season to get in shape, while he was getting in shape Kobe was lighting it up. If Shaq came into training camp as in shape as his rookie season Kobe would’ve had a lot less shots which might’ve been an issue, Shaq would’ve won additional mvp’s which might’ve been an issue.. It's not that easy to stay in shape when you got the money and fame to have anything you want. Staying in shape requires torture for a big man like that, not eating junk, exercising during the offseason.
