This is true… im from kolkata n once i was shopping in Dharmatala, n i was suspecting one old lady… as i was already aware of these black magic things. After few minutes she managed to come closer and tried to prick something but was unsuccessful as I already knew what’s gonna happen. She didn’t stop there she again followed me n i was so lucky this time, i only got a pinch type feeling but it didn’t go through my clothes.. bcuz of the crowd. As a Bengali who visits dharmatala every other, I'm sooo scared now. I have heard of black magic stories but nothing of this sort. It really scared me. Also reminded me of that one Sara ali khan video at airport where some lady did something near her and Sara Ali was clearly seen hurt/uncomfortable

god, it was in fact a chilling story, being bengali myself, my friends always joke around about me knowing black magic and so do i, cause its funny and ofc not true that was until i asked my parents about it, i dont live in kolkata, but they told me how it was in fact true, that some ppl do use negative energy and can target you, using your hair or something else and also was the reason why they would advise us to not keep your hair open at times, i did not believe them at all, thinking its a folktale but now listening to this- idk anymore😭😭

As someone born and brought up in Kolkata and also as someone who has visited Dharamtala numerous times, I have never experienced black magic myself. But yes it does exist. I closely know people whose relatives have used black magic to gain benefit in property disputes. In Bengal, they don’t call it kaala-jadu or black magic, they call it “Tuk-tak” 😅 And it is primarily practiced in Kalighat by tantriks. Usually low-class people resort to these things and it’s more common than Bengalis here will admit.

I don't understand why kolkata is called to be the leading city in black magic. After residing in kolkata for more than 2 decades I have never encountered nor have I heard any cases of black magic.

I can confirm that things like this is very normal in eastern part of India. I belong to Jharkhand which shares its borders with Bengal. While I was a child I had amazing skin and was admired by everyone for my beauty. As I grew up I started getting more attention in my family and friends circle for my beautiful appearance. My life sort of changed when I reached third year of my college. Initially I started experiencing pimples which I considered to be very normal given my teenage years. But gradually this issue started getting escalated. I started noticing black spots on face which would turn into wounds and even bleed. My parents took me to every known dermatologist, every ayurveda expert in the city but no one knew what exactly I was going through. I would wake up at my home with weird cut marks on my hands and body without any clue where they are coming from. I spent 10 years of my life with undiagnosed skin condition. Finally I decided I won’t go to any doctor nor will I take any medicine I just started praying to lord hanuman. I got married two years ago and have now settled in Canada. All my issues just have vanished. I don’t know if it was a black magic or not but I definitely know I had someone’s nazar on me which made me suffer so much.

I live in Kolkata and actually visit New Market often. I'm so freaked out rn. We've always joked around saying "hum bengali hain hume to kaala jaadu aata hain" and I've heard my grandma talk about stories about black magic from her childhood but i never imagined it's still prevalent. I'm not going to any crowded place anymore 💀

i dont know why i feel like this story has a more psychological angle to it than paranormal... First moving to a whole new city, then not having a job to keep your mind occupied with all the time, no family, no friends, plus she herself admitted that she was very depressed all alone in a city which is hustling and bustling just below her window but she could not interact. As for the cuts, maybe she did not realize when she inflicted them on herself as a coping mechanism to get attention from her family which she was very much deprived of. i am not attacking her, just stating my thoughts. She could be absolutely saying the truth from her perspective, but we also have to consider the fact that our human brain is capable of things beyond our imagination.

My mom used to tell me about those black magic things that she also heard and to be honest it's too much scariest than it looks!..many old age people with bad intentions do this things to hurt people! And basically in the village side it's very common. My mom's family used to be very wealthy cuz of that many people(mainly relatives) started to get jealous and my mom believes that someone did black magic to their family and my mom's family's wealth got destroyed!! The things that need to clarify, the black magic is not common in Kolkata, there are some practice of Tantrik culture in some parts of Kolkata as well as in Bengal like Tarapith, but these practices are not to harm someone, this is absolutely a stereotype and instagram trend to demean Bengal and Bengali. We abolished Sati.
