Kolkata - Shantytown along active rail tracks

People misunderstand that the rails are built on housing area, right in middle of the ghetto. But it's the other way round, these poor people mostly escaped the genocide in East Pak of 71, and they had no jobs, no place to stay, so they squatted next to the railways, which was the very few places vacant in the overpopulated city. They should've been resettled somewhere else, but politics, so here it is. It's a sad circumstance.

I always got the impression that these trains are ran as fast as they are to "ensure" if they hit someone they dont injure them they kill them. Youd think they would go easy through there.

I m frm Chennai and not only Kolkata evry city had its good and bad..For example Mumbai is a Financial city of India but it contains world's longest slum..Every city had its own beauty and dirty..In my city tooo..

As it is, these people are occupying railway land illegally and then someone gets runover, it becomes the railway's fault. These people need to either relocate or go back to where they have come from.

90 % of them are bangladeshi . there are around 1.5 crore bangladeshies living in west bengal and total of around 4 crore all around the country living in slums

To everyone this all property belongs to Indian Railway. All Railway property is capture by people illegally and Unauthorizedely. This is one of the example of big corruption in our country by government offices. These poor people illegally capturing the railway land that time no one say anything. Now the government and Indian Railway wants to remove these people from the land but court order compensate the people.
