So wearing it slightly higher (although it seemed to be in a standard position) is a violation, but if he had taken it off all together it isn't? What the hell kinda rule is that!
You can see the helmet at 0:20 onward... Looks perfectly fine to me! I kinda feel like the ref just had something against Komarov... That or they simply wanted to make a statement that "this rule will now be enforced"...
I dont get this rule. There are players who dont wear visors. If that is deemed unsafe then every nhl player should wear a visor. Is it an equipment violation for not having ear guards? Is it an equipment violation if your chin strap is too low? Cause thats unsafe. You know what，visors are unsafe too. That means the whole nhl should wear cages too. i understand player safety but this is a joke. You ever keep it consistent or let them do what they prefer.
What's more, Komarov is grandfathered and is eligible to play without a visor! So no visor would be perfectly good, but some visor is bad bad bad for some reason.

From how it looks on the replay, Komarov seemed to be wearing his visor and helmet correctly when the penalty was called. Therefore, the penalty was called to make up for previous infractions and to send a message, making an example out of Komarov. In the future, Komarov should wear his helmet and visor positioned properly at all times, or get rid of the visor altogether if it bothers him that much. The Bauer 4500 helmet model he wears is one of the lowest profile helmets available and fits very close on the head. Pushing that helmet up his forehead would effectively negate most of the protection that would be needed in the event of any kind of frontal impact.
I think the whole point was along the lines of, "If you're gonna wear a visor, you gotta wear it according to the rules.", because they even said that Komarov had been grandfathered in, which meant he didn't *have to* wear a visor in the first place, so either wear it right, or don't wear it at all. That's what I got out of that.
This rule is insane. He’s grandfathered in. How does hagelin get away with it then?? This, the jersey tuck rule. These rules are so stupid turning the NHL into the NFL.
Rule 9.7 states that IF you wear a visor it needs to cover your eyes. Komarov has done this all preseason and the league has told him MULTIPLE times to fix it, but never did.
That was then but last night TB scored a goal in an important game 6 and had no chin strap on . So that’s either an old rule or their different rules for different players
Some players are grandfathered in to older rules like Komarov was here. The problem in this video was that Komarov wasn't following the grandfather clause nor the new rule, so it was a penalty. In your example, if there is a grandfather clause, then following it would be enough.
Everyone is commenting about the visor...this has nothing to do with the visor. He is wearing his helmet too high, it's not seated on his head. It's ready to fall off. This is what the penalty is for. Now of course we know he does this get the visor out of his own eyes sight. But he keeps the visor on for high sticks to touch it and draw more penalties (vs sticks that wouldn't have touched his face, but were close with no visor at all). Might as well get a few errand sticks to bump off the visor that isn't doing anything for/against you. Except until now. You don't see guys wearing their helmets like that without visors. Only guys with visors will let it sit high like that. All together, this is dumb on both sides.
The visor he is using is legal looking at the angle on replay the refs just wanna screw leafs over... Not gonna happen leafs be screwing teams over 7-2 often this year
Love seeing all the butthurt leafs fans. Its a rule in the NHL. I dont understand why Komarov gets rid of the visor anyway if he is going to wear it like that. Multiple times during the preseason the officials and the league warned him about this. Get over yourselves.
