Now a days Ethiopia is the largest troop contributor to UN peacekeeping. The vast majority of them are serving in Darfur (UNAMID), Abyei (UNISFA) and South Sudan (UNMISS). ... UNAMID deployed a battalion from Ethiopia (more than 800 soldiers) to protect civilians

🛑Unfortunately US and the Westerner countries are trying to put sanctions aginst us and wanted the UN invasion in Ethiopia in the name of protecting Civilians .The truth is Ethiopia refused to bow to their order to stop the filling of the new Ethiopian Dam . The reason why they can not push it any further is because of Russia and China stood by Ethiopians side. We Ethiopians will never forget those who stood with us in our hard days. The Kagnews served with great distinction, principally alongside the 7th Infantry Division, and by all accounts (including the enemy's) acquitted themselves well in battle, suffering 121 dead and 536 wounded during the course of the conflict. At the conclusion of the war the Ethiopians were the only contingent that had no prisoners to collect from the North Koreans because no Kagnew soldier ever surrendered. Wikipedia

My great uncle is still alive he was one of the imperial bodyguards 1,200 who fought in Korea his uniform is the one in the South Korean museum for ethiopia funny story he and his buddies ate raw beef and poured red wine on it to troll the North Koreans and Chinese cuz there was a rumor that the Ethiopians were cannibals 😂

Thank you for Swahili Nation for bringing many of us out of the cave we were under. I knew this story, but never knew there is such a place with monuments honoring our African heroes. Well deserved . Thank you Soul. Ethiopia helped America with Korean war and helping their wars on terror next door and beyond But Ethiopia is begging for USA to help or stay quiet during her most difficult times currently. Even our current most democratic election EVER did not get their blessings, let alone fight for Ethiopia. This proud nation has so many wonderful relationships and cooperation with USA in the past. I hope it will be repaired soon for the betterment of our shared goals. In the end Ethiopia always wins.

Interesting ... Let me tell you how actually Ethiopia won the war with their strategies.. .. Culturally All Ethiopian people eat raw meat of cattles.. It is just our culture .. So Hailesiellasei gave all his soldiers a piece of raw meat and a weapon.. So that every time they kill one enemy they grap out that peice of meat and eat it pretending like they are eating the enemy they killed... So the enemies.. When they saw them eating raw meat.. They run away saying " who are these soldiers who kills and eats human flash" .. So they won Korean war... Long Live Ethiopia!!!

Right after the Korean War, Korea was literally the poorest country in the world. General MacArthur said it would take 100 years for the country to recover. Everything was destroyed. But now in 71 years, Korea has become the 10th largest economy in the world. The blood and sacrifice of soldiers in the Korean War were not wasted. Because of them, there is Korea now.

This is a Commemoration to remember the Korean War which broke out on June 25th, 1950. Sixteen UN nations supplied fighting units and five sent military hospitals and field ambulances. Ethiopia sent us Kangnew battalion at that time. If your grandfather was a Kangnew soldier, please give my respects and regards to him. We Koreans remember you. 감사합니다.

A unique but memorable record only held by the Ethiopian Kagnew Battalion among the numerous forces under the UN Command of the Korean War was that there was NEVER an Ethiopian soldier captured as prisoner of war by the Communist Forces nor did the Kagnew Battalion ever surrender any ground in any of the 200+ combats it was engaged in. This is important because Kagnew Battalion was not only representing Ethiopia but Africa our motherland. I thank South Korea for graciously remembering our heroes. Wishing all the best for the people of South Korea.
