I just switched Airbnbs and now I'm in Makati at the highly recommended Oppa Korean Restaurant. I'm not very familiar with Korean food, let alone Korean food with a Filipino twist but let's give it a try!

But it seem like the places where the locals eat "Karenderia" have so low quality food. I had kare kare twice, once it was all bones and beef skin and another restaurant served it the dish with an extremely fishy bagoong. And the rice they serve is always cold.

good day Kurt, new sub here. Pinoy based in Melbourne Australia. Your videos are amusing and I always have a laugh seeing your reactions to the food. Bilib ako sa iyong fluency in speaking Tagalog. Keep up the good work and look forward to more vids. As you always say 'kitakits!'. Hope you will find time to sample the cuisine in other Philippine regional areas (Iloilo, Ilocos, etc) as well. Cheers!

I'm fairly new to the channel as my FB reels recently recommended me to you. I have been binge watching many of your videos and want to thank you for some great content :) My only feedback is that the subtitles are maddening lol. I don't know if you use AI or what, but they're often either spelled wrong or translates the wrong thing (for example in this video it says "worth the height" instead of "worth the hype"). They stand out which is good but not when they stand out and are wrong XD Thank you again for the great content otherwise!

The crunchy diced vegetables that you ate are fermented radish. The fish cake that you ate is called odeng. Kimchi is a fermented vegetable and there are many types of it the most common is the napa cabbage & radish kimchi.

Kuya Kurt - hello from northern VA! There’s a saying in the Philippines that goes “Rice is Life”, which is true since Pinoys have rice with most (if not every) meals. I truly enjoy watching your videos showing the local karinderyas and restaurants. More power to you, sir!

Try Budae Jjigae soup. It’s my favorite Korean Army Soup. It’s got spam, hotdog, and tofu. Some may have different ingredients, but that’s the original ingredients back in the 50’s. Trust me it’s very good and can cure a bad hangover 😊😅❤❤❤side dishes are the norm in Korean cuisine. It’s called “Banchan” Banchan is meant to be shared with those you are eating with and it is eaten at almost every meal in Korea.😅

Filipino: "Sa gitna ng aking pag-nguya sa pagkaing ito, isasabay ko rin ba sa pagkain ang mga ito?" edit: 16:35 - That's a chinese cabbage. We also have it here. We call it "pechay Baguio". 22:36 - That's kabocha. A type of pumpkin. Here, we only have one word for all kinds of pumpkins and squashes, we call it "kalabasa".

Jjigae or jjige is pronounced “Jeee gay.” chadol is beef brisket. Most Korean restaurants serve free side dishes to compliment your meal called banchan. Banchan is usually a bunc of kimchi… basically seasoned pickled fermented vegetables… most famous and common is Napa cabbage, but the cucumber is also technically kimchi. There’s no rules around eating banchan, in between bites of your main dish, with your main dish, alone, with rice, etc… think of it as a palate cleanser, or a flavor booster to add salt or sourness.

You're being TOO LITERAL when you interpret english into tagalog like literally....instead of translating "WHILE I'M EATING THIS OR IN THE MIDDLE OF EATING" to "SA GITNA NG PAGNGUNGUYA" you can just say "HABANG KINAKAIN KO ITO" or "PAG KINAKAIN KO ITO".....kaya most of the time pinoys listening to you find you weird when you speak like that and you seem to interpret them as not listening to you or don't know what you are talking about. But incredibly....thumbs up for all the hardwork in learning the language. Also, you EAVESDROPPING CONVERSATION is the way to go to learn quickly. Maybe when a filipino orders in a restaurant, yan yung pinakamadali matuto so you can quickly pick up the easiest conversational habits of pinoys. Kasi if you're gonna interpret everything on your own, you end up sounding too trying hard. 😊

Language is very fluid...idiomatic expressions comes easy if you are a 'native' speaker otherwise, you stick to grammar & sentence construction rules!
