극단적 행동 부르는 '조울증'...발병 이유 찾았다
A team of Korean researchers has found a key element for bipolar disorder, which is known to cause severe shifts in mood and behavior.
The finding is expected to open new doors for both diagnosis and treatment.
Park Se-young has the details.
Last September, a young man in Korea suffering from bipolar disorder killed his grandmother and injured his father at home.
This is one of the more serious expressions of the mental illness, which is more often associated with manic episodes.
There was once a limit to both diagnosis and treatment, but now, a team of Korean researchers has found a key cause behind bipolar disorder.
Without a specific protein, a problem occurs in nerve transmission, which leads to uncontrollable excitement or depression.
"In order to transmit signals, nerve cells need to form dendritic spines. The absence of the key protein results in a dramatic change in spinal formation, causing an imbalance in signal transmission."
When the researchers removed the protein in mice, they showed manic behaviors resembling those exhibited by people with bipolar disorder.
"By making the connection between the protein and bipolar disorder, we were able to create animal models. With the models, we can test various drugs and eventually create effective mood stabilizing drugs."
The researchers added that the protein not only causes bipolar disorder, but also contributes to autism and obsessive compulsive disorder.
They expect their finding to open doors to new treatments for a variety of mental illnesses.

Research and development can take years - 10, 15. Some illnesses have been in research and development for decades. After you've got a formula you have to do studies with people, having done animal studies during R&D. Once you have all that you have to get approval from the FDA. Only then can you get a medical patent and start production. This kind of stuff doesn't happen overnight. I hope you see this.

A good balance of lipids such as omega 3 (found in fish, nuts, and seeds) fats can help when added to your diet. I think the protein mentioned may also be known as Neurogranin. It sounds as though Neurogranin is supported by a healthy amount of antioxidants and caretenoids. So - You may want to try going pescatarian and adding in a lot of greens, carrots, blueberries, avocados, and oranges. Other than that, they do have supplements with omega 3s and caretenoids, etc. Just be careful to only take the recommended dosage, and get regular blood work to monitor your vitamin A levels as it is possible to take too much of it -- yet, it's is also bad if you do not get enough.

not every coverup means that the industry is now illegitimate. the pharmaceutical industry can be a legitimate business for all sorts of health conditions, and still be rife with corruption, coverups, and unscrupulous actors. that's true for government, politics, businesses, churches, cops and all types of legitimate organizations. that still means testing authority, but they can still pass the test.

It is so ironic to see the most brilliant minds overlooking the simple root cause. The human psyche does it's best to survive in day to day situations and when things get rough, it does it's best by choosing it's own type of survival tactics and coping skills. Let me preface this by stating... I for SURE possess my own particular spectrum of unresolved emotional issues and have acquired my own specific personal dysfunctional profile. We all have, just as our parents did and theirs as well. It's when we just don't possess the multi facetted toolbox needed to deal with life's most profound circumstances, our wounded child inside develops it's own set of survival skills and coping mechanisms which are just not all that effective. What if Bipolar was a choice made by ones wounded child (subconscious mind) as a form of coping mechanism? It is normal and can be expected for all of us to experience the full diverse spectrum of emotions that are felt during our lifetime from the many curve balls life throws us no matter how challenging. But when we are incapable of exercising an appropriate and healthy emotional response due to the lack of a healthy upbringing, our psyche just does not have the ability to emote adequately. In other words....to acquire a strong and capable on-going mental state of mind-therefor healthy brain, we need to have had the opportunity to learn the proper skills needed from our parents in our first 5 to 7 years of development. Trauma occurs when we are incapable of properly emoting completely through the traumatic experience, therefor not capable to protect ourselves (our psyche) from that experience. THERFORE, the mind directly impacts the brain in such detrimental ways. I.e. bipolar disorder and the protein motioned here in this clip. We are constantly reminded of the many emotional "Brain Chemicals" there are i.e. Dopamine, Serotonin, Adrenaline, Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, Glutamate, Gabba etc. but these are seldom ever discussed in the following paradigm. Thoughts are created in the conscious mind. Our conscious awareness recognizes traumatic experiences as they unfold which in turn provoke an emotional response in our subconscious mind. Subsequently the mind effects the brain composition and these emotional "Brain Chemicals" are produced. If our subconscious mind is not prepared to "deal" with the trauma adequately, the emotional response will not be successfully dealt with on an emotional level and long term trauma is then downloaded. We are designed to experience trauma in a way that provokes an appropriate emotional response subsequently producing the gamut of appropriate emotional "Brain Chemicals" until the experience is complete without downloaded trauma, providing we downloaded the skills to do so in the first place. Unfortunately, we are all at one level or another, ill prepared to handle every possible curve ball that life throws us do to our inadequate 5 to 7 year download. Not having the tools and understanding on a subconscious emotional level will inevitably produce on going trauma and create on going unresolved emotional issues. Insufficient and inappropriate emotional "Brain Chemicals" are ultimately due to an unhealthy childhood download. To make a long story stop...taking drugs or supplements that effect emotional "Brain Chemicals" can be somewhat beneficial band aids from time to time, but the psyche (subconscious mind) runs the show, and does so in such a profound and dominating way, the only absolute cure is to heal the child.

A brain is an organ it loves to collect cycles if it’s cycle is positive thoughts it will look for things in its cycle like a check list, if it’s running on other thoughts it will look for things that are linked to them thoughts like a check list using the eyes to help the thoughts and the brain just keeps repeating the pattern it’s programmed it’s self and sitting with mental health teams constantly talking about the past then when they cover that they talk about the last 6 months it’s never talk about moving forward, it can take up to a year to train your brain to program a better cycle but you have to constantly pump your brain with the new cycle like you would for a test, study for the new cycle and start working out your body to so you trigger the mind and body to sink with the change your pushing your body and mind to do work out listening to things that you want the new cycle to be and get determined and stubborn and fight your body till the new cycle kicks in and the old things your brain would do it won’t do no more, I do think meds are ok for short periods at the beginning but taking them forever just keeps your brain in that loop cycle and you can get away from that loop and free ur your brain and body but it’s not done over night but is can be done ❤️

Watching diet can help, but not as effective as meds. I research the topic and have found that eating a lot of foods (example eggs) can help my condition, if anything giving me a little boost in energy, bipolar can sap one's energy as can depression . My brother suffered from bipolar (misdiagnosed with depression, some depression meds can exacerbate bipolar symptoms). He , like I tried everything, including diet and even experimental ketamine injections (in a clinical setting) and he still succumbed to the depression aspect of the disease and commited suicide about 2 years ago. People who either don't have the disease or have a loved one with it will never really understand it, and people don't realize that we know barely anything about how the brain works (we know more about outer space than we do about the human brain/mind) and yet we throw meds at the problem like we have it all figured out. Other folks, what really helps the most is learning to be your own and best advocate, speak up , tell your doctor or a therapist what works and what doesn't, if you have unresolved trauma from the past, I think it's best to tackle that in therapy too. And i realize how hard it is to find good doctor/therapist, many live in the dark ages and don't know about discoveries like this one in the video. And don't be embarrassed about your illness, it still caries a heavy stigma but don't worry about that. You can't be blamed for having a misunderstood disease that effects your mood and thinking. It's usually genetic.

Diet and nutrients can be more than 50% of it (see Dr. William Walsh here on RU-vid), but since bipolar is essentially a form of epilepsy that causes seizures in the emotional and rational parts of the brain, you almost need to take an anti-epileptic, as well.. and sometimes an antipsychotic.

@@Zoo-Wee-Mama-Sq I have hope that will figure it all out eventually. I'm positive that this is genetic, I just hope there doesn't come a day when scientist decide to take out the gene for mental illness completely, Yes an end to mental illness would be great, but mental illness can actually come with some good traits, example many mentally people are very bright and creative, the two things seem to often go hand in hand. Same for such conditions such as Down's syndrome, I don't know if we want to weed all these "undesirables" out (as society often views people with mental disorders). Yes, it's sad that kids are born with it, but they are some of the most loving, sweet gentle people. I'm not religious exactly but I do feel like they are a blessing to have among us. I'm more interested myself in controlling these disorders than eliminating the illness entirely. If all the mentally ill people just disappeared from the earth, I 'm not sure it would be a better place to live. I think what you said is most likely true, sad but rue but we should never just throw up our hands and say , oh well there's nothing we can do, let's just give up on these people , they are just a drain on society anyway, yet we don't say that about say cancer (and often mentally are viewed as lazy when most want to be productive members of society. Lots end up homeless on the streets because they can't work (stigma there too. Just because you don't work, it doesn't affect the worth of the person) . Keep in mind that eugenics has been a reality before and it can be again. The first people to die in the concentration camps in Poland were the mentally ill, not because they were considered inferior, but because people just didn't give a damn if they lived or died. Sorry for going on and on, I hope others will see my reply too. I don't think you meant anything disparaging in the comment, not at all, just want people to know there's hope, there is a solution coming, we should tell politicians to support funding for all brain research, people are dying, smart people are desperately needed in the field of psychology as well. There are a lot of therapists who frankly suck and are burnt out or just in it for the money. Kind caring , compassionate people are needed to help people with these kinds of problems. Unfortunately they are hard to find, but they are out there.

I have done my own research and challenges for years before they even understood this condition. It has taken me years to finally find out about the protein and the connection to gut health, nutrients especially the Vitamin B's needed for the proper brain chemical transmissions. The difference is night and day now. Gut health and proper nutrients are essential for mental health and NOT pharma drugs. Those can be useful tools, but often create harmful side affects. A holistic approach is always a good start.

@@mjennifer142 It's really tough , I can relate, I have bipolar and BPD along with severe anxiety and panic attacks, but you can survive! You are stronger than you think you are, getting support from a support group or a good doctor, a patient and understanding doctor , that's key I think. I don't want to say anything to you that you have probably already heard, just know that there are others out there suffering just like you. Reach out to a suicide hotline if necessary, but don't act on those impulses (and perhaps voices in your head) pushing you in the wrong direction. Remember , suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. You are doing the right thing by searching out information about these f-ed up illnesses. There are new discoveries every day in the field of brain health, try(I know it's hard) to stay positive, that treatment or possibly medication is out there, or will be soon in the future, that will finally help people like us. I have known some people with schizophrenia and they some of the most outstanding, interesting, bright, creative folks I have ever met. It is sad if the world was to lose people like you. If you don't care for religion, exploring your spiritual side can be helpful ( it can be as simple as reconnecting with the beauty of nature, spending time with little kids, they always brighten my mood and animals too). Whatever works as long as it's not harmful to you others, stick with it. I know I'm just a stranger , but I care , I really do. I lost a loved one to mental illness and it has just crushed me. I think of ending it myself, then I remind myself: I don't really want to die, I want the suffering to end, or at least be lessened. Don't be ashamed to try for disability if you find it hard to find or hold on to a job. Anyway, I don't mean to be so preachy but whenever I can I try to help people who are suffering and maybe some of my suggestions will help. Good luck to you.
