Come join us for a Korean Temple Stay at Beomeosa Buddhist Temple (범어사) located in a gorgeous mountain setting just outside of Busan, South Korea. For years I had dreamed of experiencing a Korea Temple Stay; however, while living in Korea I always put it off thinking I'll do it next week. Fortunately, on this most recent trip back to South Korea I had a chance to finally do an overnight immersive temple stay.
Our program included Buddhist temple Korean food (dinner and breakfast); lectures on Buddhist practices, rules and history; meditation and bowing; a complete tour of the temple grounds and drumming ceremony. All in all this Korean Temple Stay was a total immersive experience and something I'll never forget. It was such an enlightening and tranquil experience I would honestly do it again if I have the chance.
If you're visiting South Korea and you're looking to do something unique and non-touristy consider doing a temple stay program where you can visit this temple or another one located in various locations across the country. For more information check out this site: eng.templestay.com/
Thank you to KTO for making this trip possible.

Korean Temple Stay at Beomeosa Buddhist Temple (범어사) in Busan, South Korea
Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world.
Our most recent trip was to South Korea where I embarked upon a two-week adventure without Audrey. Invited as part of a RU-vid vlogging trip, organized by KTO, I spent the first week traveling with other RU-vidrs in Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju. My second week included independent exploration of Korea with my good friend and fellow RU-vidr David of DavidsBeenHere.
Having lived and traveled in South Korea, the chance to return to one of my favorite countries was one of the biggest surprises of 2019. On this particular trip, I had an opportunity to do many things I had not previously covered including a visit to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone between South Korea and North Korea), a Buddhist Temple Stay and a Korean cooking class. It was almost as if the program designed by KTO knew exactly what I had missed out on before.
Obviously, a huge highlight from the two weeks I spent revisiting Korea was the food. I feasted on all of my favorite Korean dishes including Korean barbecue, dolsot bibimbap, haemul pajeon, tteokbokki, bulgogi, kimbap and many others. I can honestly say that Korean food is world-class and is one of my top 5 favorite cuisines in the world. Aside from trying familiar dishes, I had the opportunity to sample raw Korean seafood for the first time.
While visiting Seoul, highlights included going to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Namsan Seoul Tower, Jogyesa Temple and Hongdae. As one of the biggest cities in the world, I barely scratched the surface of things to do in Seoul.
Spending extended time in Busan was my favorite part about the trip with top highlights including a Korean temple stay, fresh fish markets and a Korean baseball game. It was from Busan that we ended up taking a day-trip to Daegu where we enjoyed a traditional Korean market and tried Galbi-Jjim for the first time.
If you want to see more videos from Korea in the future, let us know in the comments what places you'd like us to travel to and what food experiences you'd like to see on this travel channel.
Have you traveled to South Korea before? What was your experience like? Please share your Korea travel tips, advice and experiences in the comments below.
Thanks again for watching our Korea travel and food series! Until next time!

Don't know if it's a trend or what but five years ago all of my friends couldn't stop talking about Japan (as a coveted travel destination) now that same conversation has shifted towards South Korea. The stay at the temple by far seems like the most interesting part, the scenery is spectacular. Great set of videos Sam!

Staying at a Buddhist temple looks like such a cool experience! The 108 bows is so fascinating but also looks like it would be pretty tiring. Love the beads, too! And the food looks outstanding. I love the idea of washing your own dishes after you eat at the temple. Yet another Korean adventure I'd love to take part in someday!

The range of vegetables at 11:01-11:17 looks similar to my experience eating dinner at a Korean restaurant in Springfield, Missouri, with a college friend. With our main courses came bowls of different side vegetables that are part of traditional Korean cuisine. Even so, the restaurant was really peaceful and quiet; in fact, we were literally the ONLY TWO customers dining there at the time!

Thanks for sharing this experience! Many people that travel to Korea aren't informed about the temples ! ~ I think it would be good for vegetarians to stay here as well ! Personally I'd be worried about waking up with everyone else. I sleep through loud noises and even through lights turned on. The no talking and silence thing about the temple is really nice. 21:06-21:11 Breathing isn't just one of the most BASIC methods of meditation. It's also the MAIN way I meditate when I do. I listen to either music from Enya, a world-famous Irish new age musician and singer; but most often a guided meditation from RU-vid or the app "Let's Meditate". Meditating has been a hobby of mine since my graduation from high school, five years ago. It was the subject of a school friend's Senior Project. I attended most of his after-school meditation sessions and absolutely enjoyed them. We would listen to a certain guided meditation from RU-vid and breathe in and out repeatedly, seated or laying on the floor. And I finished each and every session feeling plenty relaxed, as I have done sometimes since then.

Hi Samuel, I am interested doing this while traveling to South Korea as a solo female traveler. Two questions: 1) are there any other temples you recommend staying in? Why did you choose this one? 2) where do you keep your luggage? When being in a temple? Thank you so much!
@samuelandaudrey
@samuelandaudrey 4 года назад
Thank you! That is exciting to hear. To be honest this was organized as part of our group trip. You can experience temple stays all over Korea. If you're interested in a more secluded area you can find places even outside of cities. The luggage was stored in an area just behind where we slept. Kind of like a giant hidden closet.

Take, for example, the columns of temples in countries without history. I am grateful for nature, respect for nature, and learn from nature. There is no passage or break in the pillars of the temples of a country with a history from such a religious view. It starts with raising trees thousands of years ago. Just looking at one of the pillars will make it possible to find differences from a country with history.

Hahaha...we actually didn't and the portions allowed us to feel full for both meals. Maybe we were still digesting our big meals from the previous days

Disappointing. You really shouldn't film the monks. I know it'd make a boring video, but it's just a small kindness towards their belief that goes a long way.... I guess some people just don't really care about respect.

Under normal circumstances I agree with you; however, for this program the temple was hosting YTers so they were well aware we would be filming and were happy to have us doing that, so it wasn't a problem at all. I found our host monk was very articulate and relaxed considering how many people were filming the experience.

I had a realization Buddhism is nothing more or less like Islam It is the same form of crap of 'praying' to a possibly vampire like demonic entity

Budhhist don't pray to budhha, they show respect to budhha. In asian countries bowing down is not praying but a form of showing respect. Buddha himself never said to pray to him, but buddhist bow down to him to show respect they towards budhha.

Yo know the rising sun tattoo does have the same meaning as the Nazi flag. Imaging what would happen when you travel to Europe with the Nazi flag. Same in Korea or Asian countries.
