The reason why kione is expensive is because of korea's liquor tax. While other countries like japan only pay 10% liquor tax, In korea we have to pay more than 140% of tax. In this tax educational tax is also included. This liquor tax is employed if the liquor is not traditional korean liquor. Thats the one of the trouble kione is facing as the price for their whisky is high compared to other scotch, japanese whiskys.
Huh, ki one is actually quite affordable. Maybe in the same price range as Suntory distiller reserves but how exactly is it cheaper than other Scotches, what unaged whiskies are you comparing to?
@forwork2601 hmm I didn't understand your question. What I was trying to say is kione could have been cheaper by price if it wasn't for the Korean liquor tax. Not only there is sale liquor tax, but manufacturer also have to pay more korean liquor tax to make the whisky, hence making it hard to bring down the price compared to scotch and Japanese whisksys
Just found out y’all had a podcast, but was bummed it wasn’t just the YT videos, but in audio form. Would love to listen to y’all in my Tesla on long trips
We were releasing our reviews in audio format on the podcast for a while, but recently stopped. We'll look into resuming that though - thanks for the feedback!
I was told by my friend who carries Kione in his store, that the second batch is quite a bit better than the first. Still the price is still too high for a 40%er
Kim Chang Soo whisky. Only experimental batches were introduced so far but in the next few years it should come out. My calculations on import of Whisky is at 155% on top of MSRP. By the way, always fun watching you guys.
My wife came back from Korea and could not find this. We are going to Korea in a few months so if you have any advice on how to get a bottle, I would appreciate it.
It was a few months back but we did see it at a convenience store in the Intercontinental Parnas. I recall seeing it elsewhere but can't remember specially
Dillon, Ki One is not the only whiskey in Korea. Don't forget Kim Chang Soo Distillery which I believe it is the very first conceived distillery that he founded but due to the lack of funding and staff members(one man operation) Three Society became the very first distillery in Korea. Overall I was told that Kim Chang Soo whiskey is better than Ki One.
