I forgot the word but I am glad that my native language spanish is one of those languages where if you slightly change the pronunciation of the words, you can still understand the sentence 100%, no pepper knife situations, like if you say "enbarazada", "hembarazada", "embarasada", embaharazaadha" all of the spanish speaking world would understand you 100% of the time.
I remember when I first started learning Korean, a looong time ago, I struggled with ㄹ, ㅉ, ㄲ, ㅃ, ㄸ, and 어 vs 오. I also used to find all the different pronunciations of 의 confusing.
I think we spaniards would struggle as much as japanese people, since Japanese language has the closest phonology with Castillian Spanish amongst all Far-East languages. I get completely crazy with ㅉ and ㄲ sounds. Completely indistinguishable from standard ㅈ or ㄱ
I’m not sure what I should be surprised more for. Dave being to hear the “h” sound when Erina pronounces fried or Erina not realizing she still says it with an “h” sound even though she thinks she said the F sound. Most don’t realize that the F sound isn’t normal for Japanese.
It's important to acknowledge there aren't any exact equivalent sounds in any two languages. ふ(fu) is more of a sound between h and f in English and ㄱ (g) is something in between k and g as well. This is why I try to tell beginners to learn the sounds from the actual sounds you can hear off RU-vid or other audio sources rather than the English romanizations because that might help immediately but it will be incredibly difficult to get that initial sound out of your brain in the long run especially when you want to sound native.
in order to speak Korean perfectly, do not try to memorize the words instead look at the shape of the word. it is easy to predict the pronunciation just by looking at single Korean alphabet.
Phonotactics strike again! I struggle in both Japanese and Korean because of "ryo," like in Korean gongryong or Japanese ryokan. My native English speaker tongue just doesn't want to put those sounds in a row.
